Signals that TVs or consoles use..

PAL is for Europen and Australian TVs and consoles
NTSC is for Japan and USA etc.

Ntsc is better. You get full screen and more framerates.

But if your using a pal system you probley wouldn\'t even notice. Unless u had both systems.. NTSC and PAL

Could argue either one could be better Soulgrind they both have their merits -

NTSC refreshes at 60hz but lacks the same number of vertical lines meaning a lower image quality, also colour definition is not as good as pal. (never the same colour twice)

PAL refreshes at 50hz and has more vertical lines giving a better image output and colour definition is more constant between PAL sets, the downside to this is that quick conversions from NTSC to PAL usually leave borders in and run 17% slower, this isnt usually replicated in home territory releases.

NTSC is \'faster\' but has a lower resolution and worse colour definition. PAL is \'slower\' but has higher resolution and better colour definition.

Countires went with different technologies.  But they had to make a standard, so different countries looked at it and decided to make one or the other the standard.  

So that everthing that is sold will work with the systems in place.  NTSC is better, but there is not a huge night and day difference.  So don\'t worry about it

Personally I prefer PAL. It has higher resolution and better colours. But the difference isn\'t really that big. I just don\'t think NTSC is better. Perhaps for videogames where speed is most important, but for watching movies etc PAL is better IMO. It\'s also an advantage for digital filmmakers because of the higher res and the fact that PAL runs @ 25 fps, which is close to the 24 fps of cinemas. So in that situation PAL is a better choice.

Yes, PAL looks better... it´s "crisper"...

the visual discrepancy between the two video formats is virtually negligible, but the speed factor isn\'t.  If you were to look at a movie of PAL TTT, it appears as if they\'re moving in water.  The 17% speed difference drastically lowers the playability of the game.  Right after I played NTSC version of a game and saw the obvservable slowing present in the PAL version, I almost threw up.  People who play the PAL version are not getting the full benefits of playing a game, as a matter of fact, they\'re getting jipped.

Is it possible to get PAL in the US?

I prefer NTSC over Pal!!!!  Way to go NTSC. Way to go America and Japan!  Why?  Faster speed, syxxxkorny, why bother with pal.  You wont see a noticable different.  and i doubt there are any pal tvs in U.S.  this is u.s. tv resolution and framerate.  640 x 480 at 60 frames per second.  Pal is at 640 by 512 at 50fps.  These little horizontal lines (resolution) on pal isn\'t much of a noticable different.  Beside what vhs support that much?  I knows dvd do but its not much of a noticable different.  10 more frames per second is more important!  especially for video games industry.
