SSX Demo Jerk-O-Vision Question + I GOT MY PS2 TODAY ! :)
« on: December 21, 2000, 11:22:06 AM »
Hi got my PS2 today, nice system, no noise problem (yeah it makes noise, but more a hmmm you can\'t hear it over the TV and it also makes standard CD reading noises no big noises like what some have reported).

One thing though

The demo of SSX looks sweet, only had a 30 minute go, but the scrolling bit before the match and the background in the game seems a bit jerky, ie its not smooth where the rest of the game is. I know it aint a bad PS2 because other have reported its chopiness on this board. Is this normal and is it the same in the full game ? If so is it noticable after a few goes, getting into the action ?

Have a happy christmas.

Hey, are you talking about the opening movie or just before a race. If you are talking about the opening movie then mine jerks a little bit in the demo disk I got with my PS2, but as for actual gameplay I have not encountered any major frame skipping or jerkiness with the full version.
I recall my girlfriend saying that the full version looked better than the demo version, but I didn\'t really notice, it\'s probably a girl thing, they can see these things.

Thanks :)

Dont worry its not a problem with my ps2 alone, a lot of people have reported SSX is chunky. The game is fine, its simply how picky you are i suppose but its definatly more than playable not that i\'ve had a long go on it.

I ment just before the race when it shows you the level and thne you race, that is chunky, on the demo. Well its smooth but its like they have missed a few frames out here and there. Probly just me noticing it.

It won\'t be a duff PS2 because that wouldn\'t have anything to do with the PS2 so im sure its working 100% i was just being silly and paranoid, espically with the cost that they cost.

Also babycakes reports something else with opening video of SSX well i missed that because i past it but he said it seemed a little jerky, its all fine its just what you notice and how picky you are.

Me being me noticed it missed one frame when loading the introduction demo movie on the cd demo for UK PS2. Then im like well could the cd rom reader not being reading etc etc.

But i very much doubt it as these things happen :) heck try running a movie on a PC and see how much you spot! :D.

So when you next spot something little don\'t worry about it, it will be normal behaviour of the PS2 and your PS2 will be fine, well thats what im thinking anyway.

I hope to pick up SSX / Midnight Club Racing tomorrow, maybe a DVD and maybe even a remote control :)

Man, it\'s all down to converting the game from 60Hz (USA) to 50Hz (Us in UK).
It even does it on the credits in the options screen. just to clarify, check out Ready 2 Rumble 2
1st in 60Hz mode, then in 50Hz mode, you will see the difference. it seems now though that
many developers are starting to incoroprate a 60Hz switch into the games. This is good for the UK.
I honestly belive that ssx is juddery due to the strict timeframe that they had to get it out in the UK

It does really come down to how picky you are.

But I think we are making a really big deal out of nothing here, it is so un-noticable during game play you\'ll wonder what we\'re talking about. For example I never notice Pop-Up in games while I\'m playing, but when you watch somebody else play you can see it. I think the same thing happens when games get the jerkies.

But I think SSX is one of the best looking games I\'ve seen for a while.

xenith thats exactly right, PAL sucks but everyone still buys SSX because its cool, hopefully the developers will start to put PAL 60 in reguardless.
