Title: Even more Tekken 4 info!!
Post by: rastalant on May 29, 2001, 09:38:43 AM
Mad Man\'s Cafe reported that Namco has released some basic game details in regards to Tekken 4.

Tekken 4 will be released as a complete sequel to Tekken 3. The game will follow the storyline left off since Tekken 3, unlike Tekken Tag Tournament.
Tekken 4 takes place 2 years into the future of Tekken 3.
Being a sequel and not a dream match like Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4 is based on one-on-one singular matches, and not a tag battle.
Unlike from all previous games in the Tekken series, Tekken 4 will no longer feature an infinite fighting ground- walls will now be featured in the game.

Three out of those four statements do not come as a big surprise. If you have ever read the interview with the TTT development team (feature on the front page) you know Tekken 4 wasn\'t going to be a tag game. It being a sequel to Tekken 3 and picking up the story there makes perfect sense and doesn\'t take much to figure that out. And from looking at the character CG\'s Namco has already released we knew it was going to take place to far in future after Tekken 3.

But walls!!! We are all hoping for some major changes in the game, making it a worthy sequel to Tekken 3. But this is breaking away from one of the principles that made Tekken what it is. Just imagine the impact this will have on the juggling engine alone. It sure will be interesting to see how this will work out if this is true.

Walls????? Well, maybe on some stages, but the unlimited playing field should not be left out

That would be sweet if tekken 4 areas were big as doa2 since, you would have alot of walking room.  I still can\'t wait to see this game in motion.

hmmm that was unexpected indeed. I also liked the infinite fighting space of the tekken games. Though I liked being able to smash people into walls and beat them through windows in DOA 2, it just isn\'t tekken....

I just hope they don\'t make any changes to the play mechanics, just make the game a bit faster but change nothing else.

There was actually a rumour going around that mid air reversals maay be implemented. This would be to stop the cheapness that occurs when you make one mistake and you\'re up in the air and lose 90% of your health in one attack. Annoying, so they may change it, of course that\'s no more than a rumour.

Well i will actually take this as good news

because if they change anything then people will be upset with it somehow

they need a change this will only make the game different and IMO better

Walls or no walls it dosent bother me. But they really need try something different for me to buy this game.
I think they need something totally new IMO.
But a lot of you tekken fans might not agree with me. I\'m more of a Soul Calibur fan. Cant wait for it on PS2!

They need to go the true 3D way ala Tobal No 1 & 2.

That would be horrible. I think they should keep the feeling of Tekken.

Now fake pictures are starting to go around the internet.  Here is one I found today of Brian(even though the name says otherwise, he is wearing Brians TTT clothes) and Nina (LOL.  She is also wearing a TTT outfit and is now a freak) :D.

Because it\'s from geocities, I can\'t post the pic here.  So here\'s the link:

Remember, that pictures is a fake one.  The person who posted it at TekkenZaibatsu said, "I cannot disclose how I had attained this picture."  LOL, yeah right.  I figured you guys would still want to see it though just for fun. :)

Oh, and about this wall thing.  I think most of us expected it (I know I did) when we heard the Eirgheiz(sp?) team was helping the Tekken team.  There are a lot of people in denile over this, but it is obvious that there will be walls.  I have posted a lot about this over at TekkenZaibatsu, so I don\'t want to say it all over again, but I\'ll say this:  Namco is a very good Fighting game developer.  They know how to make a fighting game fun, and know what works in a fighting game and what doesn\'t.  Right now they are testing the game in Japanese arcades and trying to perfect every little detail of the game so it all works right.  I think we will not be disappointed with it.

I thin we definitely need more interactivity in the tekken series. It is just a natural progression. Doa2 had walls and you could still juggle but just not forever. which is a good thing imo. I have a feeling that this is going to be the definitive fighting game on ps2.

true... though I am a die hard fan of tekken and want it to stay as it has always been, change is not necessarily always a bad thing. This will change gameplay and tactics a fair bit.... but perhaps that\'s what was needed. I guess if it doesn\'t work out then tekken 5 will always be able to improve on it ;)

But seriously, it shouldn\'t be too bad. Like Ironfist said, Namco is an awesome fighting games developer. If anyone knows how to make a good game it\'s them, and with such a good franchise I think they know they can\'t go ruining it.
