Nintendo’s Wave Race is widely regarded as the benchmark for water-based racing titles, but Eidos Interactive is hoping to up the ante with Wave Rally on the PlayStation 2. Adding credibility to Wave Rally is the inclusion of the official Jet Ski license, allowing Eidos and Opus Corporation, the developers behind the game, to throw in Jet Ski watercraft, Jet Pilot wet suits and other Kawasaki trademarks. At this time, Wave Rally is on schedule for a release in the winter.
“We are very excited about Jet Pilot and Kawasaki’s involvement with Wave Rally,” says Paul Baldwin, Eidos’ Vice President of Marketing. “When you think of quality, high performance and breakthrough technology involving personal watercraft, you think of Kawasaki and this will be reflected in the game itself.”
Wave Rally utilizes Opus\' \'GZWave\' engine resulting in ultra realistic waves and dynamic water physics enabling players to launch off rolling breakers and perform spectacular freestyle tricks. The game consists of various modes including, Arcade, Championship, Freestyle and 2-player Head-to-Head mode. Riders from across the globe will race in a number of diverse locations from the beaches of Florida to the fjords of Norway and the canals of Venice.

Considering the image quality, this game looks very intresting, wonder if there is amovie of it any where?
-
looks kewl.... wave race on the 64 had excellant gameplay so hope its similar on this version.
-
Reflections look really good, yucky aliasing though...
-
Nice reflections..
Crappy textures..
-
the 3rd pic looks greatest imo.
but, yep I gotta give credit to Rare and
the big N for Wave Race cause that still
looks the best.
Knotter8 :)
-
The pictures look ok,
but the racer model sucks, what happend to his elbows? and knees? another Lego-man attempt at models? LOL :D
-
It looks nice, but Splashdown looks better imo. I want a movie to see how the water moves.
But it`s too early to make the final judgement on the two games.
-
The name is Wave Rally, but why are there no waves? ;)
-
HMMMM. The reflections are great. But on the last pic, it looks like the mans knees are breaking apart:)ha ha. But overall I think it looks pretty cool, not any better than wave race64, but it looks cool.
-
Heh, as with WaveRace64, the riders look like c**p. What\'s this with all the jetski games all of a sudden? Weird.
Now I got 3 to choose from, and I don\'t think I want to be owning more than one of these titles.
[edit] Just noticed, there\'s a straight line going through thek water in the last pic. Looks really bad. Horrible. Scream. Panic. Grab what you can and run for the hills. Eek.
-
I love the way the reflections are blurred it looks SWEET.
I wanna see this game in action.
-
eh.. looks ok.. but its release isnt for awhile, so i think that they will fix things up a bit. so far the water looks good, i like how its NOT seethrough like waverace.
so far the best have with the best water is jet moto 1, (jk) :)
-
yea i don\'t see the need for 2 jst ski games on the PS2 but whatever
this one looks either real early or very crappy
just doesn\'t do it for me at al at the moment but i will give it some time
-
thats the beauty of the PS2 we now have 2 water games to choose from
So far Splashdown by Rainbow Studios looks to be the best water race game. This includes N\'s waverace
-
Is this from the creators from Wave Race 64? If it is all of them need a slap on the back of the head. Those are not PS2 graphics... nope... Sorry, but I\'m really getting angry at people who don\'t innovate. Some ****-head stole my idea for a project in class today and now I just can\'t stand lazy people(I beat the fat ass up btw :)).
First of all, Wave Rally? The developer for this game apparently has no creativity fwhen thining up names. All he\'s doing is replacing the CE form Wave Race then adding a LLY. Can\'t they think of a better name than that? They deserved to be shot for that. At least Rainbow Studios can think of a good name.
Second, the gameplay screen is almost identical to Wave Race\'s. The speed meter, the laps, the number of misses left, everything is basivally ripped out of Wave Race\'s old one and put in here in a slightly different set-up. I\'m sorry but that\'s just wrong. How hard is it to create an original gameplay screen( or whatever it\'s called)? Bah, there is no excuse for that.
Yeah there not really innovative but there also crappy at graphics. The jet-skiers look horrible, the water looks to fake, the backrounds are crap, it looks terrible! Wave Race:Blue Storm is still the king for jet-ski games(yes it looks better than Splashdown, go download a ****ing movie for proof). This one is definitely at the bottom of the barrel.

EAD, a Nintendo first-party, made Wave Race 64. Eidos is making this ****ty looking game.
-
These pics look fine to me. Nice reflections.
-
I think both Splashdown and Wave Race Blue Storm look better.
-
Why do these pics have me crying for a new Jet Moto game on the PS2? It was one of the coolest games back when SingleTrac was developing it, and I hope that when they get done with TM:B, they have a chance to fit JM:5 in the schedule.
