which one is better? leave it in standby mode all the time? or shut that thing off every time I finish playin\'? and does it do anything like overheat if I leave it on standby all the time?
-
Mine\'s been in standby mode for about 6 monthes, almost constantly, and no foreseeable problems, but I did get a 2 year warranty... Even with my computer I leave it running all day and turn it off at night if I have nothing to download, and that has a hard drive... so I tend to say, don\'t mess with the switch in the back.

Hi,
Standby is fine. If you\'re not going to use for a while then shut it off. It should not overheat, I have a Sony DVD player that\'s always on standby and I it\'s never been a problem.

i heard that you should keep it on standby if you are going to use it within 2 days, other than that: turn it off.

Well i don\'t think that they would have put the main power in the back of the console if they wanted it to be turned off that way
i have had it since launch and i leave it in standby and have had no problems from it

mines in standby although when i know im not gonna be playing for more that 3-4 days i turn it off.

I don\'t use the standby mode. I think the PS2 has a longer life with no standby for months but it\'s just my habbit of the good old years with my SNES.
-
I wouldnt have my PS2 in standby mode.. Cuz the transformer is on and the PS2 feels warm.. :)

i had my PS2 since launch and i never leaved it on standby mode, what i would do is when i would turn it off id put it on standby and then flickt he switch in hte back :), but since everyoen is saying that they have had thiers sicne launcha nd they keep it on standby with 0 problems, when i get mine back i may just keep it on standby.

I leave my PS2 on standby mode but mine doesnt feel warm at all. Even when it\'s running it\'s not warm.

I always pulled the energy plug after playing because my SNES transformer was very hot after playing. (The SNES of a friend wasn\'t so hot after playing.)

I don\'t leave mine on standby mode....probably just a habbit.

I have spoken to engineers here at Sony Broadcast where I work and I can assure you that there is no risk whatsoever leaving the unit in its standby mode (which incidently was how it was designed to be left). The only recommendation to using the switch at the back is simply if you go away for a long period of time due to just a safety precaution.
