Title: Does anyone else have recurring paranormal experiences?
Post by: SonyFan on June 02, 2001, 12:49:37 AM
Hey, I thought I\'d post this topic to see if anyone here has been having the same experiences I have, and to just hear about weird occurances that happen to the other people on this board.

Have you ever heard the "Sound of silence"? I don\'t know what it is, but I\'ve been hearing it for as long as I can remember.. even though everyone else I talk to can\'t. It\'s always there, but only really noticible when everything else is dead silent. It\'s like a high pitched humming that I can never get to quit, but seems to grow in intensity the more I focus on actually trying to hear it. It gets so bad sometimes, that I can\'t sleep or think... it\'s f*cking crazy. Even ear-plugs don\'t do anything to block it out. But when I hear the even the smallest sound, then the humming dies down to it\'s normal, almost non-existant, volume.

For awhile, I thought something was just wrong with my ears.. but every doctor I had look at them said absolutely nothing was wrong. Really, it could be one of a hundred things, and not necessarrily paranormal. I just figured it was something the doctors overlooked until I saw an episode of Sighting where there were other people who heard the same sound I have been.

They said it was caused by something geological.. since the sound increases the deeper you go underground in a cavern. (Which is true, it did get much worse for me when I was in Rainbow Caverns). But I think it\'s also got something to do with electricity, since I can hear that pretty easily and it sounds about the same, but a bit lower pitched. For example, if I walk into a room with a TV set to a black channel with no picture or static (To where you can\'t tell visually if it\'s on or not) I can instantly tell weither it\'s on or not just by hearing the electricty. I dunno if you guys can do the same thing, but most all of the people I\'ve tried this experiment with couldn\'t tell if the TV was on or off until they tried to change the channel.

So my best guess was that it\'s got something to do with the electromagnetic fields of the earth or maybe some kind of resonance going on inside my eardrums. It sounds reasonable.. but I found this phenomena kinda interesting.

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/planetearth/space_symphony_000323.html

I find a lot of similarities between what I hear and the earth hum their talking about on this page. Other sites on the net have said this same phenomenon causes stronger humming noises in the winter.. which is pretty much spot on since the hum I hear does get.. I dunno if louder is right word.. but it\'s more persistant and a lot stronger.

If it\'s the same effect, then most experts agree that I shouldn\'t be able to hear the hum at all since it\'s well below the range of sounds audible to the human ear. Since it\'s not really one sound, but more a concophany(sp?) of two or more sounds at different octives.. maybe I\'m just hearing the high ends of it?

So anyhow, that\'s my little corner of the "paranormal". Anyone else have weird, recurring, experiences they\'d like to share?

All joking aside I hear high pitch noises constantly too.  I\'ve just gotten use to the demons though.  Make them work for me..

Side note.  At my parents house there was a picture on our entertainment center.  I was home for a weekend and I noticed it turned around.  So I faced it forwards again.  Next day I noticed it again.  This was odd so I asked my mother.  Her stomach dropped because she had ben noticing that too.  My mother then went to the store and I was looking at the pic.  The doorbell rang so I went downstairs to get the door.  It was a buddy of mine.  I was telling him about the pic as we were walking up the stairs.  We then went to the entertainment center and it was turned around.  Freakiest fizurking thing I have ever seen.  We then moved the pic to another part of the house and it never happened again.

Do you have your speakers on your entatainment centre? That used to happen to my brother. He had a photo on his speaker, and if you turned music up loud enough the picture would slowley turn around or fall off cause of the vibrations.

We thought that was the deal cause my parentals have a kick ass system, but it only turned one photo.  We kind of figured that must have been it, but I still can\'t explain why none of the other photos didn\'t turn.  And I\'m talking a complete nice and neat 180 degrees.  And there were other smaller pics too so that can\'t be it.  I dunno.

LOL, Funnt Jumpman,

Anyways, I hear that sound also when I am in dead silence.  I was in the Bathroom the other night, and I tried to listen to the sound, but I couldnt, it intensifys.  Its nothing though.  It happens with everyone.  Theres nothing wrong w/ your ears, its just that you are concentraining on that certain sound, but a way to cure it is leave the TV on or something at night time.

I dont know if you would call this a paranormal expierence or not but, last year My grandfather died from some kind of heart problem, I think he had a heart attack, and the night before that happend I had a deam I was in a dark room, where there were skulls with lighted candels on the top of the skulls, and there before, me was a man.  He bowed before me, and I layed my hand on his forehead.  I think thats when the deam ended.

My mom awoke me, and she said my granddad was dead.  Later on that day I figued what my dream was about, I thought about it really hard.  Finally I could place the face in my dream with my granddad.  It was scarey.

So why does it intencify when I\'m underground? And how come none of the doctors I talked to said that it was normal? I mean, they all agreed that it shouldn\'t be happening.. but since there was nothing wrong with my ears that they could find.. they told me to not worry about it unless it starts botheing me too much.

It\'s not that I only hear it occassionally.. it\'s there ALL the time.. not just when I concerntrate or "clean my ears". Usually daily noise drowns it out, but anytime it starts getting quite, the hum becomes noticable.

And besides.. if everyone hears it, then how come you\'re the only people who I\'ve talked to that say they can hear it too. Why did they have a special segment on "Sightings" about the noise? This isn\'t normal.. I\'ve lived my whole life with this ringing hum in my ears that noone else has been able to hear. Either it\'s medical.. or it\'s something else.. but it\'s definately NOT normal.

I have seen two UFOs.  The first was when I was a child, and it was a very strangely shaped object.  It was like a triangle on a post moving sideways at very high altitude.  The second was only a couple years ago, and it was a cigar shape hovering above mountains south of the I-10 in western Arizona.  There are various military bases in AZ, and I occasionally see F-16s and A-10s on the same interstate, so I\'m not certain this one was "extraterrestrial."  The first one was very odd though.

I dont know if this happens to any one else.  But sometimes when I\'m trying to sleep I feel this intenese pressure on my body, but it doesn\'t hurt.  And when I try to move I can\'t..its like I\'m paralized.  I really hate it when it happens because it scares the hell out of me.

Sonyfan, you\'re not alone. I know what you\'re talking about, I have the exact same thing and I\'ve had it for as long as I\'ve been alive. I hear it 24/7, it never stops. And JUST like you described, when there\'s ANY level of noise happening it goes away, but as soon as silence happens, it\'s back, the less noise surrounding me, the more intense it is, and it can get REALLY intense sometimes. So I know exactly what you\'re talking about, I have the very same thing happen to me. And I can also hear TV\'s just like you said.... I just thought it was all normal.

On to paranormal things... it\'s gonna sound weird but i\'ve predicted what will happen in the future some times. Only small things, but they really scare me. For instance, last  year was my final year in high school, grade 12. We were sitting in assembly, (an assembly for our grade alone), and the principal was talking. He was known for just stopping when other people spoke, and if still they kept talking when he was silent, he said something about the noise. Well anyway, I had a really itchy shoulder, and was like, twitching it to scratch it... and in my head for some reason I got this image of him looking at me and saying "what\'s wrong with you???" even though it was totally uncharacteristic of him to say something like that.

About 5 mins past, and all of a sudden he stops... looks at a guy from my grade who was doing something and says "what\'s wrong with you???" in the EXACT pitch, tone, and delivery I imagined, it was SO weird. And that\'s no isolated incident... this happens a fair bit to me. I get deja vu a lot, sometimes for minutes on end. And when I do get deja vu, I actually imagine in my head what will happen in like a minutes time, and sure enough it happens. It\'s freaky.

On a side note, deja vu is actually described to be your brain slowing down. That is to say, what\'s actually happening is you see, hear and detect everything that happens in a given moment, but your brain doesn\'t fully process it till a split second later. When it\'s processed, you think you\'ve done it before because you\'ve "seen and done" it before, but when it stops and you\'re back "up to speed", it doesn\'t feel like you\'d done or seen that before. The reason of course is you hadn\'t. But I get this for extended periods of time, and predict what will happen in a minutes time. It\'s very weird.

(btw: I\'ll try and find a link to a scientific paper about deja vu)

I have many upon many freaky things that get to happen on my unsuspecting mind every now and then.

One of them is:

My dreams almost 90% of the ones I remember come true, and most of the time I remember I dreamt about it is when it happens. Sadly, nothing productive coems out of my dreaming of future events. Usually it is me and some friends talking about something, then it hits me and I say "wow! I dreamt about this a while ago" there are tons of specifics in the dreams too, so some times when I can remember my dreams, I right them down and stick them in my wallet, next time a realization of my dreams comes to pass, I will pull it out of my wallet and show everyone the freakiness.
--------

I have never been in complete silence before in my life, never. Late at night, when I focus my trying to sleep on sound, my ears will start to ring, and they get louder and louder the more I focus on it until I fall asleep. It gets about as loud as when you light firecrackers near your head and your ears ring.

----

Whenever I sleep naked, my nipples get really har... whoops! I mean, I get cold, yeah thats it.

Your ears always ring. If you really try hard enough to notice it, you will. Push your ears shut and concentrate, you will notice it. It\'s a normal thing.

I am trying to learn lucid dreaming. Sometimes I can actually manually alter my dreams, but it\'s a rare event. I wonder if it\'s possible to exert such a control over your dreams that you could prevent yourself from waking up?

Dreams really interest me. Why is it that sometimes you can remember a dream all your life, and other times you forget as soon as you wake up? What chooses what you remember? I\'ve never really dreamed about the future that I remember, but often times I dream about mundane stuff, like working. Sometimes it\'s so real to me (since I actually know I do this stuff) that when I wake up, I get extremely disoriented.

I don\'t know how many of you have read Stephen King\'s "The Shining", but that book is what fueled my interest. The child Danny is able to dream about the future, he can actually set himself into a trance and see the future. The movie is good, but the book is far better, and I suggest you get a copy.

End rant. We\'re all slaves of The Matrix anyway:)

Damn, that sucks, dreaming about working... lol!

I have that \'ear thing\' as well, I guess it\'s normal.

Dreams are pretty interesting.... it doesn\'t matter if you don\'t remember one when you wake up, or remember 1 or 2, you always (in a good night of sleep) have about 5-6 dreams per night. For some reason you just don\'t remember them, it\'s pretty crazy really.

As for controlling your dreams... on most occasions I do that. I can\'t control WHAT i dream about, but when I\'m in there I have full control, and I actually use logic to make decisions etc. as sometimes I think it\'s real. I thought it was normal, but a lot of people just go along with what happens, they can\'t control where they are or what they do, it just happens. Well usually I control what happens... if it\'s a dream in a familiar place I\'ll visit places I want to visit etc. And yeah, I get that feeling of disorientation when I wake up in the morning to some dreams. Bad thing is, I sometimes get that feeling with dreams I don\'t remember. I wake up feeling... just plain weird cos of something i thought happened... when I have no idea what actually happened.

Ah well... i love dreaming, it\'d be awesome if you could not only control what happens in dreams, but what dreams they were...

SonyFan,

I know exactly what you are talking about. The same thing has been happening to me since I was born. I can "hear" electrical devices and when I am in complete silence I sometimes hear a high pitched sound. When I went to carlsbad it was VERY intense. I asked, but no one else heard it. It is weird. I thought it was just normal. I still think it is just that a lot of people aren\'t used to focusing in on the sound.

My dreams come true a lot. The first one that I can remember(there were more before this one) was a very surreal dream about the first girl that I slept with. It was wild. I won\'t go into specifics but we were in a pitch black room and every few seconds a bright light would flash on her and I could see her but she was in black and white. It was really weird. I walked over to where she was but every time she was in a different location. I didn\'t remember the dream until during "the act".

Like Gradman I hhave some Really weird Deja Vu experiences. The older I get the longer they seem. Its like I\'ll be sitting talking to my friends and then it will hit and I will know exactly what they are going to say for a few minutes. I know how the convo ends and I\'m focusing on what they are saying to see if it is exactly how I remember.

I wish I was able to do some of these things whenever I wanted to.

The ringing is completly normal. I notice it too. Its worse if you go to a club.

Since it gets worse when you go to a club, I presume the ringing is like all the damage which has happened to your ears over the years but obviously everyone has it cause everyone has been using their ears for 10+ years so its normal.

As for the TV thing. We have a pot which moves forwrd on our TV. Its just vibrations.

Or is it. Muhahahahahahahahaha.

there\'s an old issue of OMNI magazine (mid 80\'s ) that taught me lucid dreaming. I can\'t do it anymore-out of practice. The first step is telling yourself over & over that you want to dream while you are falling asleep.(tricky, since it somewhat makes it harder to fall asleep). next, you have to recognise that you are dreaming, and to stay relaxed when you do. Then realise that you are in complete control of your dreams, and you can do anything you want. They suggested flying. you have to train yourself to do these steps, it takes time (about 2-3 weeks )

It\'s pretty fun when you get it down, though I don\'t have time / patience anymore. sleep is at a premium these days, and lucid dreaming is nost very restful.

When my great grandfather died in 1999 he was 80 something and my grandmother (his daughter) had nowhere to put him at night, so she put him in the balcony (I live in Russia and here it takes weeks before you can get a funeral) and what happened at night just killed my grandmother... She told me she heard loud scratching the whole night through, loud, static humms and shadows flickering on the walls. I couldn\'t sleep myself when she told me about this. I get the ear thing occasionally as well.

THIS ALSO HAPPENS TO ME ON OCCASION!!!

I used to just think "De ja vu" or however you spell it.  But recently I have been trying to test it out.  I try to verbaly blurt out what will happen, just to prove it to myself that it is not just deja-vu.  this is hard to do with people because when I shout out what I think they just say something like "hey, you read my mind" or " I was just about to say that."

So the time I realy got to test the theory was when me and my wife were watching TV and it kept happening and I would get a flash of deja vu and try to shout it out before it happened.  My wife would say stuff like "you must have seen this before or maybe you saw a preview of this show.

The final thing that made me believe it was something else was that one night we were watching TV and they broke away from the show to pull the LOTTO numbers.  I quoted the numbers exactly and my wife started to cry.

Since then she keeps buying LOTTO tickets and tells me to give her the numbers. I tell her that I only got the flash right before it happened.  She keeps saying "Practice!!!!"

Now I kinda wish I did\'nt do that.  She thinks I don\'t tell her the numbers on purpose.

maybe there\'s something strange going on with the evolution of the human mind?
