Sorry, Neo Geo is not allowed, as it is actually 24-bit :)
post away!
The Final Fantasy 6 Espers were defintely something to scream about back in the day -
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rpgamer.com%2Fgames%2Fff%2Fff6%2Fgraphics%2Fscreen%2Fmaduin.jpg&hash=a7159416cca7f5027fb7711047614095fb70dc5c)
----------
Also, Chrono Trigger\'s Triple Techs were great looking as was the scenery on the towns and bridges, and the enemies! excellente! -
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rpgamer.com%2Fgames%2Fchrono%2Fct%2Fgraphics%2Fscreen%2Fz_battle.jpg&hash=cc028697abc4e70a732a25d862825f3412c1e039)

---------
Phantasy Star IV\'s anime style cut-scenes were mucho impressive -

Batman Returns for SegaCD -
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shinforce.com%2Fsegacd%2Freviews%2FBatmanReturnsCD-01.jpg&hash=10a777b5dad6d74c89f11fe2f0ec315680a39e19)
you cant see it from here, but Batman\'s scaling and rotation made it king of 16-bit racers!!
---------
BC Racers (SegaCD)
Using cel-shaded graphics (bet you didnt know they had THOSE back in the day!) , This is one great looking game!
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shinforce.com%2Fsegacd%2Freviews%2FBCRacers-01.jpg&hash=6ddf716e9e567a7e40277f93690a0534966d513e)
-------------
Silpheed (SegaCD)
Take StarFox\'s 3d effects and double them and you get Silpheed. This game was and still is very fun, although those unshaded polys look mighty rough these days!
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shinforce.com%2Fsegacd%2Freviews%2FSilpheed-1.jpg&hash=f2eb40f251ed5ae6bc0525a3d07a5a423135ee0c)
more to come...

Yeah, you did it!
Anyhoo, the best looking game of the 16 bit generation was Super Mario RPG(no random battles!).
ANGEL FIRE IS GAY
I\'ve been playing this game a lot lately. It\'s one of my all time favorites. The only game to have a better battle system than this is Grandia 2 IMO.
Donkey Kong Country 3 would be my next choice.
-
Well this is going to be a fairly lopsided thread. After all, graphically the SNES blew the Genesis out of the water. Considering the hardware though, I\'d say that Hardwired was one of the best looking 16bit games. It proved that the Genesis could do Rotating Sprites, Mode 7 like effects, and several of the SNES\'s top features.. albiet not nearly as well. AND, the opening movie was simply GORGEOUS. I can\'t find screenshots, and I really don\'t even know if the game was ever released for commercial sale. If my puter wasn\'t so screwed up, I\'d take some myself. Oh well, the ROM can be found on several emulation websites, so a quick Google search should bring it right up.
BTW: That blew when Aliz died. She was one of the coolest Phantasy Star characters ever. (Even her nickname was cool... "The Eight Stroke Warrior" Heh heh) After Zio killed her I almost didn\'t want to contiune the game, but I figured if it was this good already.. then the rest of the game wouldn\'t dissapoint. And it didn\'t. PS4 is still one of the best RPG\'s I\'ve ever played. (Plus the Macro system kicks ass!!)
-
Yeah, Phantasy Star 4 is one of the greatest RPGs, if not games of all time.
I have Hardwired, which was later renamed and commercially released as something...name escapes me. I will take a couple screens and get them up on photopoint, then put em up :)
Angelfire\'s graphics are ok, but what is with only 5 colors shown at a time? I thought it could do better than that!
Eric Jacob
-
Red Zone is the name of the commercially released Genesis game with scaling and rotation, many people said it couldnt be done, even Sega, but it just takes persistence. Someone has to find some pics though!!
-------
Ranger X (Genesis) - excellent looking shooter, probably the best looking on any 16-bit
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.genesisproject.co.uk%2FGenesis%2FR%2FRangerX.gif&hash=5848cf7bca3607bbd3c4ad56366e58c180841e4a)
----------
Sonic 3 (Gen) can you say beautiful?
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.genesisproject.co.uk%2FGenesis%2FS%2FSonic3.gif&hash=3326bb4b821fd730acc8e11b64b5b948a4a1bf9d)
-------
Sonic 3D Blast (Gen) - Until i see Super Mario RPG (which I remember as being great looking) , this is gotta be the best looking 16-bitter!
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.genesisproject.co.uk%2FGenesis%2FS%2FSonic3DBlast.gif&hash=aecce34c6c7abba6d25ef9f8d37ad6e08c9f6d50)

I didn\'t think that Silpheed looks so great. This game rocks. :)
-
sonic 3d blast was on saturn
no really, I agree with jumpman (for once :)) DK1,2 and 3 were the best looking 16 bit games (look better than some 32 bit 2d game!) and so was SMRPG (one of the best game ever!) ahh.. those were the good ole\'nintendo days , I miss them...:(

Sonic 3D Blast was also on Genesis. Looked pretty nice.
Somebody forget Treasure???
Gunstar Heroes???
Dynamite Headdy???
Alien Soldier???
Also...
Phantasy Star 2, 3, 4
Shining... Series
Street Fighter Series
How could anybody forget these???
You\'ve all been spoiled by the graphics of today. Forgetting how wowed we were back in the days. Fools!!! This injustice will not go unpunished.
Bwa Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!

Yes, good graphics but no 3D objects and the gameplay was not so good like in Super Mario World 1.
But good graphics, that\'s right

IMO, Gunstar Heroes and Sonic and Knuckles were 2 of the best looking 16 bit games.
-
That was the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast. Judging by your reply, it looks VERY Nice. otherwise, you would have ot thought it was a Saturn game :)
I don\'t care about any of your claims if I can\'t see them, I don\'t wanna have to do all your work for you guys and post the pictures myself!
Here are some Sonic 3D Blast (Sat) screens so you can compare the difference. -
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamesdomain.com%2Fgdreview%2Fzones%2Fpreviews%2Faug97%2Fsonic04.gif&hash=62544ffea565e4cb65292d9325e3faa8fd3b8e32)
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.emulationzone.org%2Ffanfare%2Fghz%2Fsonic%2F3d%2Ffi_5.jpg&hash=5ff11cfc3780e0f42cc51fa451f1686eac012e7c)
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.emulationzone.org%2Ffanfare%2Fghz%2Fsonic%2F3d%2Ffi_8.jpg&hash=527d5c28757e1b238e220a4c04ebdb32f667b06b)
From these screens, you see that Saturn was, YES, able to do transparencies, it just had to be done through software, which many of you guys say is beneficial to PS2!:p
I guess I will go see about getting those DKC screens, even though they WERE pre-rendered. We can match em up to Sonic 3D Blast. I DO remember as a kid freaking out about how good they looked though.

Behold, the bets looking game of the 16 bit generation-
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.classicgaming.com%2Ftmk%2Fimages%2Fss%2Fss_smrpg_fight.gif&hash=ad7fa9fb3589c2201a19a2230994b597decee589)
Damn, that\'s all I got. Trust me, it\'s in a league of it\'s own in the graphics department.
-
hmmm, the backrounds are better, but the characters are definetly worse than Sonic 3D Blast.
Here are those DKC3 screens, they are great, but very noticeably prerendered.

But I guess the characters in Sonic 3D Blast were pre-rendered, aren\'t they?
Eric Jacob

Here is a Yoshi\'s Island screen. The game looks good, but I know there are alot better out there -
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.snes9x.com%2Fimages%2Fyoshi12.jpg&hash=448c4b6ce0f9dcff46dbe711524da6e8091207a9)
-------
In comparison, look at Chrono Trigger, that is still one of the best looking titles out there, IMO. better than SMRPG, YI, Sonic 3D Blast, etc.
-------
SMRPG also used Mode 7 crap, which makes it look all garbled, which is why I think, overall, Sonic 3D Blast looks better, compare the bonues stage pic in the pic of S3DB to a behind the back part of SMRPG.
-------
Here is another DKC3 screen, and this title, if we were just doing pre-rendered 16-bit titles, would definetly take the cake, easily.
-------
Gunstar Heroes was great looking because of the tons of bad guys on the screen, huge amounts of explosions, and giant bad guys all without slowdown, and great looking, too!
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.genesisproject.co.uk%2FGenesis%2FG-h%2FGunstarHeroes.gif&hash=29bd7f168118f1d882b9ddf5fb1d7e0d6cdb3804)

HEY!!! I mentioned Gunstar Heroes in a post above yours.
One of the coolest bosses of all time is in this game. I\'m talking about (Forgot his name) in the Mines level on Hard Mode. You face seven different forms, either travelling horizontally or vertically. Awesome designs by Treasure.
-
Ohhhhh......wait a minute. I get what you\'re saying. That bit of sarcasm by Altered on the Angelfire logo having only 5 colors. I\'m a little slow, sometimes.

One of the best games EVER. I want a remake of this game but I want it done well so that it doesn\'t ruin my memories. It has to be a side-scroller.

I remember buying this game for only $20. It came with a free Fruit Roll-Up.

No, it wasn\'t during the slow deaths of the 16-bit systems. It was some kinda sale, I\'m guessing, at Toys \'R\' Us. This was near the time when Gunstar Heroes was released.

Agree entirly. This is the game I thought of when I first seen the topic header, well actually the original.

While I agree there may of been games that looked better TECHINCALLY then Yoshi\'s Island, I have to say it looked the best simply because it had its own graphics style goin\'. Nothing matched the graphics styled used in Yoshi\'s Island.
-
My pick is for Saturday Night Slam Masters.
This game was huge. The pictures don\'t do the game justice. To see it in motion is unreal. Everything is so big and fast. It\'s almost like Street Fighter with ropes and cooler characters.
