nVIDIA Corporation introduced its new nForce™ Platform Processing Architecture today at the COMPUTEX tradeshow in Taiwan. NVIDIA’s nForce is a revolutionary new PC platform design, integrating system, graphics, communications, and audio technologies to deliver unmatched system performance for the mainstream PC market. To bridge the gap between the expectations of today’s users and the limitations of current and future technologies, and to deliver unmatched system performance, it was necessary for NVIDIA to depart from the traditional "Northbridge/Southbridge" chipset architectures to create an entirely new class of PC platform. The NVIDIA nForce Platform Architecture provides four key benefits to consumers:
The world’s fastest PC platform architecture ever designed
Five to 10 times the graphics performance of any other integrated PC graphics accelerator
AMD’s HyperTransport™ technology, integrated onto both the nForce IGP and nForce MCP, improves overall system level performance by providing up to 6 times the internal bandwidth needed for today’s demanding system requirements
Multiple, high-performance DSP audio engine for ear shattering, real-time 3D audio and, for the first time, real-time encoded Dolby™ Digital 5.1 surround sound. (These DSPs will also be used to enable broadband communications in a future generation product)
NVIDIA’s nForce is comprised of two platform processors:
nForce Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP)
The nForce IGP redefines system and graphics performance. The foundation of the nForce IGP is comprised of TwinBank™, NVIDIA’s revolutionary 128-bit DDR memory architecture that provides the highest memory bandwidth possible, maximizing memory efficiency so users can run multiple applications simultaneously. The addition of a dynamic adaptive speculative pre-processor (DASP™) helps boost CPU and system performance; and the integration of NVIDIA’s award-winning GeForce2™ GPU ensure an uncompromising 3D visual experience.
nForce Media and Communications Processor (MCP)
The nForce MCP redefines the audio and communications experience. The integrated Audio Processing Unit (APU) brings unprecedented 3D positional audio and DirectX® 8.0-compatible performance to the PC platform, all the while providing real-time processing of up to 256-simultaneous stereo audio streams, along with a real-time encoded Dolby™ Digital 5.1 cinematic audio experience. Also part of the nForce MCP is StreamThru™, an innovative technology that provides an optimized pipeline to enhance networking and broadband; and the most complete suite of networking and communication devices including Ethernet, home phone-line networking (HomePNA 2.0), USB, and dial-up connections.
What does this mean? The architecture will be there and when the GPUs get better it will have no bottlenecks associated with the PC! I can\'t wait when this comes out with the next generation GPU! But for now Xbox will occupy my time!

So do you like sit around and look at screenshots and stuff? Seems kinda boring.

I don\'t get this. Is Nvidia actually going to begin manufacturing motherboards, or just the chipset? They refer to it in vague terms like "revolutionary new PC platform design" without actually saying what their damn product is. Without knowing who\'s going to be manufaturing the motherboards, I\'m uncertain how well this "technology" will be adopted.
Still, it sounds nice. Their IGP chip will have a GeForce2 built in, but you can still bypass to another GPU like the GeForce3 attached to an AGP slot. With the GPU built-in, it seems like it\'s making PCs more hardware standardized like consoles.

i\'m confused  too
what exactly is it. Is it a motherboard ??????
Any other info on this beast
when the hell is the projected release for something like this ???

It\'s just a chipset,it\'s going to compete with the AMD 761 and the VIA KT266.
i wonder if this supports SMP (I haven\'t checked out the complete specs)
But I am no fan of all this onboards stuff :(

this is old news, I\'ll try to find a pic of the board, its pretty cool yaknow AMD cpus :)

here\'s an anandtech link that oughta clear things up:
