My favorite is FFIX, but FFVII was great too.
-
I guess im gonna just be going with the majority , but i cant lie, i liked ff VII the best
-
while FFVII was a great game - i also loved FFIX
but No. 3 is where its at for me - the game is just so cool - it never got boring and it kept me going
but it was rather a toss up betwn FFIII and FFIX for me
-
FFIX had all the best bits for VII and added to them, the system was lovely and the game itself showed that there was life still left in the little grey box.
-
I think we all know 7 is gonna get the most votes.
-
FF7 ALL THE WAY!! Awsome characters and story!!!
-
Final Fantasy VII is definately the best!!! :D I loved it so much back in the day and still do. The characters and the story were both top-notch, even the graphics(well at least a couple of years ago).
-
i liked FF9 , ff8 , ff7 , ff2 equaly
-
I\'m saying FFVI. Now FF6 was never released here in america, I think FFIV or FFIII were the same game. It was one of those two but I\'m saying FF6 because I\'m not sure. FFVII comes in after that and the rest are in a tie for last. God, after FFVII, I can\'t stand RPGs with random battles...
-
FFVII followed very closely by FFVI
-
Jumpman, you call yourself a Nintendo fan!
FF6(j) is FF3(usa)
I doubt many of you guys actually played FF3, as it was only released in Japan. So really any votes that go for 6 and 3 should be combined. FF2 (USA) was FF4 I believe.

FF7
Chrono Trigger (even though its not relevant to this poll), FF6, and FF9 are my next fav. games

Well, it was kind of hard to remember all this because I was playing these games when I was 8 years old!!!
Anyhoo, FF3 is the one I meant to say. That was such a great game. The FF series has seriously lossed it\'s touch ever since that game. FFVII had a magnificant story but lousy gameplay but horrible gameplay. FF8 and 9 were just crap...
-
I am glad you see it my way. The PSX ones were just crap IMO. Final Fantasy 6 (3) and Final Fantasy 5 (never released here) can\'t be touched. The stories are compelling and you don\'t feel like you are wasting your time when you level up, kinda lke in Phantasy Star 4!

i think its a load of bull****...FF9 is so similar to FF6, its storlyine is every bit as credible as FF6, much more mature, and contemplates many moral issues and is very philosophical, the dialogue is much better than FF6, the gameplay is almost the same (you get magic the exact same way, only instead of using Summons to get magic (like in FF6) you use Items). The weapons system is far superior, the world and travelling is much better, chocobo usage, the mogs are great, everything is really well done. The graphics are great, the cut scenes are great, the game is made just that much more professionally (as the series became more of a money maker). The only real thing FF6 has over FF9 is the fact that Kefka is a much better boss than {not saying name because some people might not have played it})...
i think the only reason you dont like it, is because you dont want to like it.

I\'mm voting FFVII, however I was never lucky enough to play any of the final fantasy games before VII. I\'ve watched a small part of FFVI being played on a PC, but that\'s about all. But FFVII is not only my fave FF, but one of my fave, if not my all time fave game. It had AWESOME characters, you could easily relate to them all, and this depth really helped you become a part of the storyline.
Possibly the most standout feature was the storyline itself... it was just brilliant. It had ALL the right elements of surprise and intruige, but it never let you have everything at once. I\'ve never played a game with a better storyline progression. You started as the new guy in a group of mercenaries, trying to take out the 8 reactors of midgar, but by the end you\'re saving the earth from impact by the ultimate magic, meteor. From the start onwards, the storyline unfolds bit by bit, and right when you think there\'s no more to be had, a plot twist occurs. It was just brilliantly written, and DAMN playable
I give it 22 thumbs up
My second choice without a doubt, and REALLY close to FFVII, is FFIX. This was really a trip back to oldschool, but it also had a lot of mature and new age elements as well. Excellent characters, with an equally excellent storyline to be a part of. Like i said, i wasn\'t lucky enough to play the first few FF\'s, but 7 and 9 contained some of the best, most playable gameplay, whilst maintaining the atmosphere at a mature level. Awesome games

Where\'s the "HATE \'EM ALL!!!" option? ;)
-
Does FFtactics count??? Anyway i think it\'s a hrough call between FF6,7 ,9 , but I will go for FF7!!
-
Final Fantasy VII 0wns me.
-
I must say, it is my opinion, and most likely on a whole very true that people who started RPGs with FF7 will undoubtedly pick FF7 over FF6, even if they go back at a later time and play 6. Also, people who started gaming as a whole, not just here and there with SNES and Genny, will undoubtedly choose 7,8, or 9, even though most older gamers, myself included, agree that 7,8, and 9 havbe far less quality than 5 and 6.
I have played em since the beginning, and even imported number 5 for my own devilish intentions, and I will tell you, 6 is the greatest.

i think what altread beast just said makes a lot of sense... i think i am enjoying FF6 now because it is the one which i am currently playing right now, although i voted for FF6 but i think deep inside FF8 owns me, because it\'s was my first real RPG expirience. FF7 was boring for me and so far i am in the first disk and still don\'t know a lot about it , but someday i will. it\'s good that i did not read all of gradman\'s post as it has some spoilers for me!!! hehe...
FF9 was the best one so far in visuals, but i did not like the kiddy look of the characters, the characters were still great , but i prefer the size that was used in FF8 , maybe because it was what i was used to. and FFX is going to rule me.
however, my favourate RPG on all counts is not a final fantasy... it\'s chrono triger. i only played it early this year, but i have never seen an RPG so sweet and lovable i used to waste endless hours in leveling up my techs ( in 65.000,000 BC hunting range ) and doing all the quests it\'s so damm fun and the story is the best of them all i think. chrono cross was not bad but nothing compared to chrono triger..
-
Yup, I was right :D
-
i figured FF7 would win, its my fav final fantasy
i also think it sold the most..

What about those of us who have played FF since the beginning and still like VII? Hmm? I\'m talking about me. I\'ve been a FF fan since the first one, and I loved 7 and 9. I\'m sick of this \'anything after VI sucked\' cause it\'s not true. Everyone\'s entitled to their opinion. FF wouldn\'t be Final Fantasy w/o its random battles and the similar battle system in each game. To each his own.
(though I agree that those who started w/VII would most likely choose VII as their favorite. - I refuse to pick one cause I like them all, except VIII)

- the trick is to keep breathing.

My favorite Final Fantasy wiull always be the next one. So that makes Final Fantasy X my favorite at the moment. Which is not on your list.

ahhh its good to see more and more people are getting to experience such a great game as Chrono Trigger
i loved playing this game and even have it on my SNES and plan on buying it for my PSX when it is released
I hope they release a third installment for the PS2 and i also hope that Square will release a better Secret of Mana sequel because Legend of Mana sucked a big one
-
Final Fantasy VII sure. I hope in one year we can do this poll again and check the best one is X ;)
-
to go off-topic a little!
Chrono Trigger, IMO, was on an entirely different level than all of the FF\'s. It is just too good IMO. The triple techs, the story, the graphics, etc! I love this game! I may still have it some box in my house!

7 all the way
-
i think Chrono Trigger has really similar elements in it, its almost as if they were making it as a Final Fantasy, realised they went a little too far off track, and changed the game
Chrono Trigger is better than FF6, but not better than FF7
-
Well, to be honest, and I regret it now, looking back. Before FFVII, I had never played any true RPG-fare. I was never really exposed to the genra, and the social circle to which I was a part, either didn\'t play them either, or never spoke openly of it.
I only became interested in the title because of all the hype it was generating. As it\'s release drew closer, I looked more into the game and the genra, which stimulated my interest. Eventually, unsatisfied with my current gaming habits and console, N64, I took a bet on SONY and Square and, on impulse bought a PSX with
FFVII and a few other titles.
I tried out my new games when I got home, but once I started FFVII, those other titles we\'re soon forgotten. It took me a little while to get used to style of the game. But after an hour or so, I had it all figured out and just couldn\'t put the controller down. I had never experienced anything like it before. The story was so compelling, enthralling, I was truly emerged in gaming bliss, the likes of which I never knew before. Fifteen hours later, and keep in mind I was up over twelve houres before I bought the system, I finally turned the game off due to absolute exhaustion.
FFVII was an incredible game, with a story which never grew stale and kept me on my toes as it ever evolved with new surprises every time I thought the game was near it\'s end.
FFVII was my first experience with such a game, and therefore, my most cherished. However, I hear people who played six(3US) first, speak of it, in the same light I place seven. It all comes down to which game moved you, in such a way, first. Regardless of which it is, that particular game is, at it\'s core, the true FF to the respective gamer. At least, that\'s how I think of it.
Sorry for the length :)
Frodo
P.S.
Now, if only I could free up the time to play my FF Anthology, I could see first hand what a great game VI is. Oh, I didn\'t like VIII. Don\'t know why, I just couldn\'t get into it.
-
don\'t worry frodo.. there are always ways to discover old wonders. it\'s never to late. my first final fantasy was in 1999. but even though i was late, i really became a big fan of RPGs that i decided i must play them all someday. FF8 will always own me because it was my first expirience , and first time to do anything is always memorable ( like first time when i had sex hehe.. ) but it does not mean that you missed the bought or anything.. if you have a true final fantasy heart or square fanatic you will find it inside of you and like me you may end up playing the final fantasies in reverse mode ( hehe ) like from top and down. so that final fantasy 1 will come last, after i finish all of the remaining ones.. hehe.. good old emulators..
-
it\'s good that i did not read all of gradman\'s post as it has some spoilers for me!!!
woops, my bad, sorry Akramh! I was actually thinking about it when I was writing it, i was wondering if I was putting in any spoilers.... but then I thought "everyone must have played it"
Ah well, no real twist spoilers, but still probably best not to read it ;)
