Sega\'s AM2 Working On Gamecube Software -  6/04/01
Sega has revealed in the latest Official Dreamcast Magazine (UK Edition) that Sonic Team, Amusement Vision and AM2 have been working on Gamecube software since last Autumn.

AM2 are one of Sega\'s strongest teams and are known for their brilliant arcade games such as Virtua Fighter and Ferrari 355 Challenge. They are also responsible for the mighty Shenmue - Dreamcasts revolutionary adventure game.. Could the third chapter end up on Gamecube or maybe they\'ll grace us with a port of Virtua Fighter 4?

Whatever AM2 bring it\'s good to know they are making games for Gamecube. Hopefully they\'ll have some playable software at Space World this August.

GameCube has Sonic Team, Amusement Vision, and AM2 who are all working on seperate projects! Who needs Smilebit with their Jet Grind Radios when NGC can have Shenmues and Virtua Fighters?

So what do you all think of this? AM2 is considered to be one of the best developers out there you know, it will be good to see them put out some innovative new GameCube titles.

Yu Suzuki has said that PS2 is his primary target right now. I don\'t think a Shenmue game would work well on a Nintendo platform (smoking, drinking, swearing, fighting, death, etc on a Nintendo) So I am guessing he will make most of his primary titles on PS2 or X-Box and port over to GC or make his less serious games for GC. Sonic Team, I am prety sure, is gonna make the next Sonic for GC, which I am sure will be fantasmaghoric.

You can\'t compare Shenmue to Jet Grind Radio Future. Both will be excellent titles and both would be great to have on the same system, unfortunately, if you wanna play the great Sega games, you gotta get all the systems!

PS2 - K-Project, VF4, Space Channel 5: 2, others

GC - PSOv.2, Super Monkey Ball, most likely Sonic A 3, 7 others

X-Box - JGR: Future, PANZER DRAGOON SEQUEL!, Crazy Taxi Next, GUNVALKRIE, 7 others

But all the sports games will go to all platforms, spanking EA out of it\'s top spot :)

aww what a waste I rather see them on ps2 or xbox
this might be my reason to buy a GC

Sony = AM2
MS = Smilebit
GC= Sonic team

all of them = visual concepts

I\'ll go for AM2

They ALL make extreme QUALITY, but AM2 doesn\'t make quantity. The few games they make, though, are always masterpieces, so it is hard to say.

Although AM2\'s main focus is PS2, like I said previously. If you are looking for AM2\'s best titles, you are probably gonna see them on PS2 or X-Box.

Yu Suzuki loves PS2! :-)

How can you say this when AM2 hasen\'t even confirmed that they\'re developing for Xbox yet?

Alex Kidd 5 is headed for PS2!!!! Just announced.
Shinobi 5 is headed for PS2!!!! Just announced.

It\'s fun to make things up, isn\'t it , Futami?

Did I mention you are an idiot.

Jumpman - I only assume that is their plan because the next Shenmue\'s may require heavy usage of storage space, so X-Box would be a good way to go. Also, the graphics scope of the first two seem to be on match with what MS claims can be acheived on X-Box. We will have to see, I guess...

Well, they did Shenmue 1 perfectly without a hard-drive so I don\'t see any trouble with them making it on NGC.

I think GameCube can easily handle Shenmue too. Shenmue pushed roughly 5 mpps and had great textures. GameCube can do 6-12mpps with 8 texture effects(18 with 4). That\'s just perfect for Shenmue IMO.

Also, NGC\'s controller is perfect for Shenmue.

Analog Left-Run
Analog Right-Focus the camera.

The controller stick can be used to look around,  the D-Pad or main analog can be use for movements, and the X, Y, A, and B button can all do the same thing as the DC version.

Yes we will. Although I like speculating. :) I think AM2 will make Shenmue 3 for PS2 then port it over to NGC sometime(PSOVersion 2 was ported to NGC perfectly in a MONTH!). That\'s just my guess.

No, you kinda misunderstood me. I meant to say that the next Shenmue after 2 will look true to real life. I am sure with some work a GC version could look like this. But of what I have seen of Project Ego, I am betting they go this way. You never know though.

Porting from PS2 would not be easy in any way though. Porting from DC to GC took a month because both have great OS. PS2 is crap to port to and fro.

Well yeah, if Am2 were to develop Shenmue 3 for all the next-gen systems from the ground up then the Xbox version would probably look the best, but the NGC version wouldn\'t be too far behind it. And there sin\'t really a game where you can truly compare with Project Ego graphics wise on NGC. Eternal Darkness is the only one that I can compare and Project Ego doesn\'t look that much better than it.

Anyways, I think we should wait to see if AM2 is developing for Xbox before we make any more assumptions.

But it\'s still pretty impressive nonetheless. A NGC port might take around 5 -9 months or maybe even less if AM2 can truly master PS2.

Shenmue pushed 5mpps... Um, where did you get that info from? Shenmue looks awesome, but I seriously doubt it was anywhere near 5mpps.

I remeber reading a long time ago that it pushed 3-5mpps. I also read that it pushed DC to it\'s maxium power. I\'m not too sure, but it was around 5 million.

More Sega and Nintendo news.

Sega Confirms Spaceworld Plans

 Sega confirmed today that their lineup of GameCube titles will be formally shown at Nintendo\'s Spaceworld event later this summer in Japan. According to Sonic Team director Yuji Naka, specifics regarding the network and multiplayer modes in the GameCube version of Phantasy Star Online will be unveiled at the show. It\'s currently unknown whether playable version of Sega\'s other two confirmed GameCube titles, Virtua Striker 3 and Super Moneky Ball, will be shown. Similarly, while Sega has confirmed seven GameCube projects in development, it\'s unclear whether any new titles will be unveiled at the event.

I doubt some of you realize the significance of this move but let me explain. Only the big guns get showned at Spaceworld, you don\'t see any lousy games being showed there because Nintendo wouldn\'t allow it(Spaceworld is an all Nintendo show BTW). Sega must have something big planned because Nintendo wouldn\'t let them come if they didn\'t.

/me hopes Sega announces Sonic 3 for GameCube.

You know, you\'re right.  While I don\'t like the tooting idea, I agree that Sega has been underrated in the past.  I relate to this personally as I\'ve never owned a Sega system and aside from the few Sonic and football experiences I\'ve had, my Sega gaming has been slim.

Oh and to add about the upcoming Sega titles, I\'d like to mention that Monkey Ball sure looks :cute: ;]

Nah I don\'t believe it. Nothing against you, I just don\'t trust wherever you read it from. Unless it comes directly from Suzuki\'s mouth. Shenmue looks amazing and I\'m sure its pushing the DC, but I doubt it\'s 5mpps.
