Guys, does your ps2 causes any strain on your electricity bills?
How much power does the ps2 consume?
-
well when it\'s on standbye mode it drain about the equivalent of a digital clock or less. but when it\'s on i no sure right off hand how much, hot to much i suppose.
-
I believe its about the equivilant of a 75 watt light bulb, maybe a little less. Not too much, but it is considerably more than the original playstation, or even the dreamcast.

About 1/10th the power of the tv you are playing it on...

i know, i mean why would you even care?
are you a ultra penny pincher or something?
-
1/100th?!? What do you have to worry about?
-
There, i read the manual,it says Power Consumption=79 Watts.(equivalent to tv)
I kind of worry becoz recently my home\'s electricity bills are increasing frighteningly.Maybe the others are surfing internet non-stop.
-
((((WOW)))) 79 watts!! Thats a lot of Electricity! :D
-
what a mad topic.... it doesnt use much power at all you tight git
-
Mine, as everyones, 79Watts, and 60Hz.

79 Watts....While ON. Yep, that\'s like turning on a 75 Watt lightbulb.
While in STBY it\'s like the clock radio by your bed.
-
OK, so its a little more than a 75 bulb... I said a little less... In any case, my TV set says 209 watts!

Yeah, tv\'s are juice suckers:)
Just for some more comparisons, the average Microwave is about 700 Watts!!!
-
Guys, i know power consumption is up, an electricity bills have gone up, so is gas at the pumps. Damn! :thepimp:
that is why i have my bike inside and i peddel on it for my electricity supply, while i play Dark Cloud, sure i did lose 20 pounds in the first week alone but the savings are substantial. :D
-
Cool topic. Finally something different on these boards. Keep up the good work.
Hmm I wonder how much pressure is exhurted on my top that the PS2 is sitting on. :D
-
You tight b**tards!
If you can afford to spend however much on a ps2, a decent tv, all the games and accessories, why the hell are you worried about the electricity bill?
-
79 watts is nothing for 2 hours. Toasters, hairdryers, irons, and microwaves can consume 1200+ watts. Then there are clothes dryres and electric ovens that require a 220v power source...
If you want to save electricity try to worry about those things more than small home electronics, especially those that are energy star compliant. Or just turn off a light or 2 whenever you play your ps2. :)
-
To save electricity i poped the red Led from my PS2, :D
now i got even more substantial savings. j/k.
-
Don\'t forget about the LED in your controller to double/triple/etc your savings.
-
Yes, thanks for the controler suggestion, now i am almost running at peak performance. :D
-
I think the only time anyone should be concerned about the power usage is if one accidentally leaves their PS2 on for 72 hours straight. Smack a dumb dumb sign on their forehead if you ever hear of any people.
-
Yeah, after this post I never play in analog mode becuase of that red LED... Now if you REALLY want to save some money... Do what I did, remove the dual shock motors from the controlers, saves a ton!!! Also be sure you only insert your memory card when saving and loading, remove it when not in use.
In all seriousness though, the PS2 only uses as much energy as your average light bulb, so even if you forgot it on, it shouldn\'t be that big of a deal. Although it says 79watts, its probebly considerably less than that. Since that 79watts needs to be able to power up the drive at full speed, plus the controlers, and if you have two multitaps, it needs to power up, up to 10 controlers, and then there is the usb ports, and hard drive connection and all that other good stuff. So unless you\'re using all that, you\'re probebly not even consuming the full 79watts.

This has got to be the WEIRDEST topic I\'ve seen at any forum...
BTW - If you turn off all the lights in your room, unplug everything, pop the LED\'s on the PS2 and Dual Shocks, take out the motors, rewire the circuits inside the PS2 to run more efficiently, and make sure there is only one control and no memory card in the slot, you\'re still wasting more energy than if you\'re PS2 was unplugged...
Now that\'s food for though....why spend 50 cents playing games for a week when you can sit there and stare at a blank screen....how fun!!!
