I know that sucks the leaves are 2d bit maps on the ground.  DOA3 has 5,000 leaves moving at once from what I read from the interview.  So far graphical I think doa3 is more impressive than vf4.  Which one do you guys think is more impressive doa3 or vf4?

First of all.. considering the detail in the rest of the enviroment is top-notch, I\'m more apt to think that the ground is just a placeholder. I would like to have seen bigger and clearer pics, but if Suzuki can get VF4 on the PS2 to look every bit as good as the arcade version like he claims... then I\'ll be pretty impressed. It is a damn fine looking game so far, even if it\'s not as great looking as DOA3. Then again, DOA3 is being made for a console that\'s supposed to be 2 to 3 times as powerful as the PS2 and much easier to develop for.. so I would expect DOA3 to look better. There would be NO excuse for it looking worse.

Of course it\'s on the XBOX! A game like that, is graphically impossible to do on PS2. Now SEGA being the incredible developers that they are, i\'m sure will squeeze every little bit out of PS2 making VF4 look real nice, but don\'t expect it to look better than DOA3.

The game is looking pretty nice, but compared to DOA3 it still falls short. Doa3 is the best looking game coming out out so far.(IMO)

need to see better, more clearer pictures, but they look pretty spankin...but if Tekken Tag Tournament can have moving leaves etc. then i would expect VF4 to as well.  Its obivously far from complete and the ground will look much better.

But until they show better more cleaer pictures, ill say its just behind DoA3

Of course VF4 will have moving leaves. VF3 did, why would they go backwards in technology? IMO, even with those blurry pics, it looks better than DOA3. The characters are better, and the backrounds have a LONG draw distance, compared to a few trees blocking any view, or walls blocking view for DOA3.

I\'ve seen movies of both and VF4 is more pleasing to me. I don\'t care how well DOA3 looks, if it\'s as cheesy as DOA2 they can shove it.

From a pure gameplay perspective I\'m pretty sure I\'ll prefer VF4. The DOA style of fighting is a bit ... hmm, how to describe it... cartoony?

I agree with Ogodly on this one, you cannot expect VF4 to look as good as DOA3, but I think that this Sega dude can probaly pull it off, and maybe just maybe have this game look as good or even  better as DOA3.

Are those screens from PS2 hardware or the arcade hardware??

I heard that the guy developing VF4 was really horny about unlocking PS2s true potential.

I think VF4 looks great.. And Im pretty sure I\'ll look even more fantastic on PS2 :)

I also agree with Samwise.
Ive played DoA2 and I think its abit too cartoony for me.. (to much manga style for my taste)

Have you seen any of the DOA3 movies?  The levels are absolutely huge.

It\'s running off of sega\'s arcade naomi2 hardware.  I think the ps2 version will be shown at the fall 2001 tgs, cause in an interview sega plans to show all there big 3rd parties games around then.

Just to clarify on the cartoony part I was talking about. I didn\'t mean the graphics, which are outstanding (both DoA2 and what I\'ve seen of DoA3), but the controls... there isn\'t enough control for my likeing. It\'s more like "hold this button and go left, then you\'ll kick the enemy\'s ass". I like to have more control of the punches and kicks, not just having to press some universial/automatic kick-ass button. Ok, it\'s a bit simplified but I hope most of you can get what I\'m talking about.

you mean kinda like the TTT controls? i liked them alot, but some combos are hard to pull off:)

i remember, my friend played one of those 2d fighters, and he kep on using the attack where the punches would never stop, and he would win, because it is hard to beat.(universial kick ass button):D

DOA3 may look better, but VF4 will play alot better. You cannot match (in my opinion) the VF play style. DOA2 was just too cheesey for me and I imagine DOA3 will be also.

Oh please play better..... VF3 was not that good gameplay wise IMHO. The moves became way to complicated to the point where it just became boring. DOn\'t get me wrong VF3 graphics at the time were the best I had ever seen, but VF2 was so much better IMO.

As for DOA3, I could care less about it, i\'m not into fighting games.

PS.. It is my opinion that VF3 was the most complicated fighter I have ever played.

yeah fighting games are to complicated now, I cant even do the combos on TTT

Yeah L.I.C. and Sam have a point. Doa2 was a bit cheesy, but VF3TB was even more cheesy. If they could capture that VF2 magic all over again then I say we have a winner. The jury is still out on me with VF4 I am expecting it too be a lot better. Just that VF3TB left a bad tast in my mouth. But in any case Doa3 will be the better looking game and I would suspect vf4 would play better, but time will tell. In anycase I will in this no matter what because I will have them both.

VF3tb more cheesy than DOA2? Um ok. I guess not everyone can handle the depth of VF3. Oh well.

Thank you data, my thoughts exactly. Anyone who whines about the extensive moves that VF3 has, shouldnt play fighting games. Vecause, as far as I see it, VF3 was set up perfectly. With the up and down ground to make you change how you played...genius!

I just hope VF4 lives up to vf3tb standards. oh...and all you wusses out there in tv land, I hear they are making it easier for newbies.

arent you glad? now you can play the greatest fighting game series ever and you may get a few hits on me. hahaha

That\'s right, As far as you can see it, others see it differnetly, that\'s what  makes being human so great, we are all different. I found VF3 to be dry. Sure it had amazing graphics, and that i believe is what sold it.

I was able to handle it, yet I still think it sucked. Too complaicated, all people were able to do was bash the **** out of the buttons and the stick. I\'m sorry but when I play a fighting game I don\'t want to have to sit there and think all day how i\'m going to do a move, zzzzzzzzzz.........

DOA2 I thought was good, at the time, but so far I have seen nothing that  beats the Gameplay and depth of SOUL CALIBUR for the SEGA DREAMCAST....."SEGA"

lol.. that is too funny. First of all most of the movies are exceedingly slow when executed.  Which then leads you to button smashing. But that is half the fact seeing that most of the moves take too long to master and are not that rewareding seeing the rate of speed the game moves. Then when finally finishing the game there is nothing but Dural that is opened up.

The moves should be easier to execute. Nobody wants to have to remember 45 different combinations for 2 buttons. And the game should be a lot faster. It would have been nice to have a little bit more options in the game. I would rather have vf2 than 3tb. Compared to TEkken and soulcalibur VF3TB is not as fun.

I hope VF4 corrects a lot problems that plagued vf3tb.

That\'s because DOA3 is comming to XBOX and VF4 is going to PSX2. Alot of people think that VF4 will look just as good or if not better than DOA3 on xbox.  In other words this started by comparing the grpahics, not the gameplay.

The only thing I hope is that they get rid of Dural in VF4.  They need a new end boss!

You know it reminds me of the old days when VF1 came out in the arcades, I was like hey guys look at that game, Man is that cool how they move. Yes the characters were blocky but did that game ever blow me away or what.

You\'re saying VF3 is a \'button smasher\' and that Soul Calibur is a game with depth? Not that SC doesn\'t have depth but it is 10x the button smasher VF3 is.

The \'button smashers\' will have their @$s wiped across the floor from the VF3 pros. The game is slow, I\'ll give you that, but \'mastering\' a character is rewarding enough.

The fun of VF3 is the challenge from one player to another, not going through it. Then again, isn\'t that the same with most fighting games?

VF is no kiddy series. the object of the game is not to be able to master with ANYONE. The point of the game isn\'t to UNLOCK characters. Fact is...when you get down a coupe dozen of the literal thousands of moves, you can then see that VF3tb is a QUICK game, maybe too quick.

DOA2 can be b utton masher easy after you learn to juggle. Simple as that.

TTT, sideste then do Law\'s cheap ass 3 kick or whatever the hell else you can mash out in the time it takes Tekkens merry-go-round backrounds to catch up to your character.

VF games have never been mashers. Fast or slow (subjective of course) you still have to MASTER a character to not get green barred every time.

The differences that DOA3 and VF4 will have:

1) character list.

Tecmo will probably have hidden chracters, pus 3 or 4 new guys. VF4...2 new guys. doa3 will have the larger chracter list, while VF4 will have a MUCH higher combo list.

2) skill level.

button masher vs. game-that-makes-newbies-piss-their-pants.  VF4 definetly has the edge here. Unless of course you are a pansy who likes to get tired of games in the first 24 hours.

3) sales.

I guarantee in the USofA, doa3 WILL sell 3 times as many copies as VF4. Quote me on that. Americans overall are more impressed with jugs and grapics than gameplay and skill.

I disagree.  It all depends on how well the Xbox sells.  I think VF4 on the PS2 has a great chance of selling more than DOA3 on the Xbox because of the userbase of the PS2 will probably be way bigger than the Xbox\'s.

Well I disagree Doa already has to proven to be a much better series of fighters in gamers eyes, because they flock to doa more than they ever had to VF. I think hardcore VF will love the game. I will be getting the game, but most ppl find the game over packed with the long library of moves that are in most ppl eyes to difficult to master.

And I was not trying to say that VF was about ending the game, but damn after going through all that time of mastering a couple of moves for your guy then get to end and only one sorry character is opend up. Well that sucks.

I think VF is a good series but fact shows that it is not as popular as SC,DOA, and Tekken.

DoA3 hasnt proven ****.  DoA1 was pretty popular but wouldnt have been without the big boobies bouncing beautifully.  DoA2 was a pretty good fighter and has brought some recognition.  But it has not PROVEN itself by any means.  I think the only reason DoA2 got any hype was because it was up against TTT, which was good, but lets face it, not breaking any new ground here.
