[Hopefully the Euros will be up soon so they can see this, and I think this is mid-day for the Aussies (right?).]
Some nice videos of EA Sports Rugby 2002 at Sport Planet:

Looking very nice. EB World has this one released on July 24th in North America (if anyone else was wondering).

Looks much better in the videos.

It\'s been out in New Zealnd for about 5 days now!
I played it. It\'s really cool. Better than Jonah Lomu Rugby.
The graphics arent as good as Madden but the gameplay is really cool.
Hopefully I will be able to get it next week

Vulcan, how does the passing work?..same as Jonah Lomu Rugby? (L1 / R1)
-
Vulcan - please give us some impressions when you get it.
-
I haven\'t play a Rugby game in my life :(. Here in Mexico is not a popular game, however i\'m looking foward for this one.
-
Yeah, the passing is L1, R1 style. Double tapping will throw past the closest player and triple tap with throw a long pass.
-
Tomrob - can you give us some impressions of the game? I\'ve never played a console Rugby game before.
-
Its a really good game, I love the way the players kits get muddy as the match progresses. The passing is really fluid, feels natural. I wish they has made the graphics on par with Madden though, I can\'t understand why they didn\'t just use the madden game engine. I usually just play England vs Australia against my mate. The presentation is also up to the usual EA high standard, nice menu\'s etc. The commentary is good, but not the best. I would give it 8/10

Thanks tomrob! Does the game have any international tournaments like the World Cup and such, or is it just friendly matches?
-
My mate\'s got it. Hopefully I will be going to his place to play it tomorrow. He said it\'s way better than Jonah Lomu rugby.
There are World Cup tornuments, Tri Nations and 6 Nations! Hopefully it has the Pacific Rim tournaments too.
If I get to go to his place tomorrow then I will be there all day playing it. So I will hopefully have a review up in a couple of days :D

this is sounding like such a good game, I really can\'t wait for it
Is it out here in Australia??? I\'d say it would be by now, i was going to have a look around Metro today but I didn\'t have the time. I might rent this game next time I\'m at work, see how it plays. I was very disappointed with Jonah Lomu Rugby
-
I\'m hoping to get to review this one. I\'ve been waiting for a Rugby title to come out here for a long time. I don\'t really know how to play, so it\'ll be fun to learn.
-
Thanks for the info!!

I still havent got it yet but I played it quite alot today.
It is really fun but it\'s nowhere near perfect, but it\'s the best rugby game I\'ve played.
Just a few things that annoy me. Players seem to be too even in ability\'s. For example, I played NZ vs Japan and Lomu had trouble running over his man. and we all know this isnt the case.
He kept getting tackled by him. You could understand this if it was Joe Roff or Ben Tune tackling him, but this was just some unkown Japenese player.
Another thing is that when running the ball in the backs the defence tends to drift across to cover the men outside, just like in real life, BUT a lot of the time you can just step inside and there\'s no one there covering so you can make an easy 20 meters nearly everytime. I did this against South Africa. I did it from out infront of my own posts, gained 20 meters and set up the next ruck. I just continued to do this getting 20 -30 meters each time until I scored.
The last thing I\'m going to complaiin about is the speed of the players. One time I had Christian Cullen with the ball and all I had to do was run around a prop to score a try. He would do this everytime in reallife but in this game when you go to tackle the player goes into his tackle animation and speeds up so he managers to catch ythe player which he is suppoesed to be faster than! So Cullen got outrun by a prop.
This also happened to me when I used Paulse from SA. He got run down by a lock!
Other than these things it\'s a very good game. If they can fix these up for a future title (I hope) and add some more options then it would be an awesome game.
My opinion of it is that if you love rugby, BUY THIS GAME. You will get annoyed by little things in it but overall it\'s the best rugby game out on any system.
If your just a casual fan of rugby I suggest you rent before you buy.
Graphics: 6/10 It looks good. It\'s just plain. Not as much detail as Madden
Sound 7/10 Great sound effects like when they hit the rucks and mauls, but the commentry is very bad so you will end up turning that off within an hour.
Gameplay 8/10 I\'ve gone into detail above. Just a few little problems hold this game back from being great.
Lifespan 8/10 If you love rugby, this will last a long time. It\'s just a pity it doesnt have the Super 12. This would of added to it.
Overall 8/10 Good first effort by EA. If they update this series every year the future for rugby games looks bright.

Excellent review Vulcan - thanks! I\'ll definately be picking this one up.
