Thanks for the cool info. this should be out in the UK within 2 weeks. £19.99 is a fair price :D
Now, do i mod my PS2 for full RGB DVD playback.. Mmmm
-
This is the kind of technology that I have been waiting for on te PS2!!
-
The only problem is the PS2 is still a lousy DVD player.
It says UK residents still need an NTSC tv to view North American and Japanese DVDs. Does that mean that a North American PS2 needs a PAL TV to view DVDs from Europe?

I can\'t agree: The PS2 is loud, it has less features than "normal" DVD players, the sound quality is poor, the europe PS2 doesn\'t work with RGB without modification, there\'s no remote control in the box (and no Sony remote control in the shops)
But the DVD feature is nice, that\'s right.

So 1/2 DVD of your brother is not region 1? ;)

Not necessarily, he said his brother has over 100 DVDs, so maybe he has 200, and therefore 1 DVD is not region 1.
:D

Let\'s just say he has alot of region.1 movies and not so many region.2 movies :p

dont worry about not being able to watch ntsc dvd/games on a old tv screen, ive got a video player that plays ntsc films and it shows up perfect on a tv thats about 10 years old. when you get more info/review of this can you do a thread about it, as im very intrested in it
-
hmm.. what if your PS2 breaks and u send it in to SONY, and they see the updated drivers...
Goodbye warranty!
-
did that silly human say the sound quality is poor?
good grief
:(

The sound quality is absolutely the most noticable shortcoming of the PS2 DVD player. I presently have a very cheap interlaced Toshiba DVD player and it\'s audio output is clearly much better than the PS2. When the difference is recognizable to human ears and not just test equipment, you know you have a problem. The video quality of the PS2 is also poor, which is detailed in on this page: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_8_1/dvd-benchmark-sony-ps2-dvd-player-3-2001.html
This doesn\'t bother me, I\'m getting the new Sony progressive player, the DVP-NS700P soon.
