I think ps2 is better then the Xbox. what do u guys think? when the xbox comes out it will cost over 500 dollars. is it worth it when u can get ps2 for 300? ps2 is going to get cheaper by the time xbox comes out. so who\'s with me? PS2 will be better then the Xbox?

How did you get such crazy numbers?? The X-Box will be launching for $299, and the price of the PS2 will be lowered to $199 to match Microsoft.
IMO, judging by the games, I think the X-Box is the best out of all three consoles.

HAHAHAH...Where in the world did you get that sort of reasoning that ps2 will be lowered to 199.99. Sony has NOT announced anything that even makes you think they will lower the price. All this ps2 is going to be cheaper is just some rumor some fanboy made up.
Let just stick to the facts and not what we think will happen, because no one in here works for sony.

Sony has announced a price cut in Japan (never said by how much!), it\'s just a matter of time \'til the rest of us feel the benefits, although, most of us already bought a PS2. But maybe having one for each room of the house is not a bad idea!

I\'ll take your word for it then, since I\'m not a huge Sony follower. Common sense tells me though that Sony will be reducing the PS2\'s cost somewhat to meet the prices of the X-Box and the NGC.

Your logic is unsupported by a single fact, despite your misuse of the word. You can say it\'s very unlikely that it won\'t match PS2s user base, but you can\'t factually state anything of the sort.

Economic fact? Can you provide us with an accurate data (or experiment) of the number of "buyers of consoles" to derive further proof of your assessment. I bet you can\'t because their is none. Everything you just said is a mere speculation and not in line with fact, so you have no right to claim it as such when it is obvious it is just your opinion. Also, it has no groundwork of support, fact, or verity to support anything you just said. For a veteran forum member, and a mod yourself, I am quite disappointed. Shouldn\'t you know any better?

Ps2 will proably end up doing better. But xbox is more powerful and has some good games coming. Both xbox and ps2 have one thing in common? They both have better 3rd party support than gamecube.

to answer the questtion, you would have to define what being the best console is. Is it, best looking? best price? best games? best graphics? most powerful? etc. etc.
as far as im concerned, the PS2 will have the games that i want more than any other console, therefore, as far as im concerned, PS2 will be the best.

In fact, Sony DENIED a price drop saying that they don\'t care what Nintendo or Microsoft does because people will still buy a $300 PS2 when Xbox and GameCube launch.

Sony usually announces fall cuts at E3. They\'re not helping themselves if they hold back a announcement. Stop stating your hopeful price cut as if it was a fact.

who buys most consoles. parents.
if a parent walks into a strore, do u really think they will walk out of the store with an xbox? no.
the xbox is going to crash and burn. bill and his stockholders can throw all the money they have into advertising it, but the customer recognition just isnt there. sure , theyll sell a few to the "ex hippie, turned techie" crowd.
just ask 3DO about having superior technology and no user base

oh, and now i need facts? personally, i dont care either way. more than likely ill buy one used, cause im an oddworld freak, and it will be my only opportunity.

Well, all I\'m gonna do is wait for the YBox, I hear it\'ll be standard with 3D goggles and will play the new-to-come mini-DVD\'s. Oh, and it will make a fine cup of joe, except that in our more proper neighboring countries it\'ll make a fine spot o\' tea. It can also be integrated into an electronic razor-teeth puppy.
Oh boy, I can\'t wait! (snicker) But I\'ll be waiting for say. . . three months?
At least it won\'t flop like that 3 year old WBox!

2-mm, your logic with Xbox is totally flawed. I don\'t know how someone who became a mod can be so dumb. Why?
a-The average gamer is in there 20\'s. Mommies and Daddies don\'t usually buy 20 yo\'s systems.
b-Parents were easily swayed by the Sony name and marketing (PSone, pre-pokemon had the same child userbase as N64). If the marketing is done right, MS could sway plenty of parents.... not that MS even wants that. They made it clear, they\'re after Sony\'s more mature market.
c-How long PS2\'s been out is irrelevant. At the end of XB\'s lifespan, they could very well have sold as many units as Sony had. Successful consoles have a pretty equal lifespan. Unless XB does crash and burn, PS2 will fade out before XB simply because it\'s life cycle is over.
d-To declare a system will crash and burn 6 months pre-launch, pre-media exposure is quite uncalled for, and negligent.

what are the best selling games on any console? FRICKIN POKEMON! any 20 year playing these should be shot
even the ps1 life cycle is not over and its been 9 years almost. the n64 will die before the ps1 does, and it came out 2 years later. *cough* superior technology *cough* hell, look at the ill fated dreamcast. great console that didnt catch on.
xbox will be out in 4 months, not 6. and im assuming you forgot the 3DO incident, unless yer not old enough to remember

1-So your a dumb admin, not mod. I don\'t care, I bite my tongue for no one.
2-Yes, the average gamer IS in their 20\'s. Mid 20\'s actually. Read some of the ****ING market research done by the IDSA in the last 10 years.
3-Plenty of 20 yo\'s play Pokemon. It\'s a decent little RPG, despite it\'s kiddie appeal.
4-4 1/2 months, i\'ll give you that, but not 4. The rest of June, July, August, September, October, a week of November. I have a 3DO \'son\', you won\'t be schooling me on gaming history anytime soon.
*Edit* on your added response: PSone\'s been out 6 years, N64 5. If Nintendo chose to continue bringing out its games on N64, the market would be there.

MM: By your logic it would seem that the PS2 is dead. If parents are the ones buying the consoles they are not going to choose the dated system with violent games. Instead they will pick up the very friendly looking GCN with its assortment of happy first-party titles.
Of course, that does not work out because kids do not ask thier parents to go "buy me a console", rather they ask them to go "buy me a PS2/Xbox/GCN etc".

I don\'t ever remeber asking my parents for the Nintendo or Sega, I just got \'em as christmas gifts! I think today kids are more likely to ask for a particular game than a system. It\'s the parents job to put two and two together to come up with getting the console as well. (I recall this from giftwrapping at Toys "R" Us last Christmas.)
So if the game is on more than one platform, heh, we\'ve got a decision. But for the vast majority of consols sold, the user makes the big decision.

Go buy your USED XBOX I don\'t care, but 2-3 years from now, we will see who has the last laugh. As far as I know, MM helped Björn the Great build up this forum.. That was over 1½ year ago.

Well its totaly diffrent now..
When PS1 entered the market N64 had been delayed, Saturn was a flop.
The N64 also had a cartage no CD..
Very bad..
Things are diffrent now.
PS2 has a massive userbase, and its growing every day.
PS2s AAA games are just starting to come out.
FFX, MGS2 ect. well sell extra systems.
So will a pricedrop..
GC will be released 3 whole days before Xbox.
Im sure Xbox will do pretty well for a new system.
But I dont think it can hurt GC or PS2 that much.
And Im pretty sure it wont match the PS2 and GC userbase..

MM you make no sense. When psx first came out it had no user base. And look at it now. Comparing 3do to xbox is like comparing a Temp to a Mustang.
All system when the first launch have no user base. That is pointless view you through out. Second Xbox has all the big developers making their games. Discounting two that very well could be name any time.
I would like to see some data on who buys who the console. Seeing how the most popular consoles is favored bye teenagers and adults. I would not say parents are two much influencing what there kids buy MM. Or n64 would have been the number one. Basicly this nothing but an opinnion from one person is forum and does not characterize the general public. That knows microsoft buy name and as a dominate corporation. Everyone knows about microsoft.

the ps1 was a guaranteed success.
it had a niche that wasnt available in the gaming world
it made gaming "cool"
the SNES and genesis didnt offer that
the ps1 changed the opinion that consoles and videogames were for kids
what did the 3DO and XBOX offer? speed and power. revlolutionary? i dont know
i give microsoft credit for taking a chance. they are risking alot on this venture.
will it succeed? well, that all depends. it certainly wont lead the nextgen race, but it will hold its own.
even i cant deny the speed and power that it brings to the gaming world.

We just witnessed Ethugg get banned, now OGodly is stating his "opinion" if MM is talking out of his ass, so I\'d imagine he is treading on thin water also now..
I would also like to point out something everyone is overlooking. Everyone keeps mentioning the 3DO, but forget one huge fact. It was $700 dollars! That would be the first HUGE reason that it failed.

The stuff i first posted was only my opinion. the prices were just rumors i heard. i just wanted to know u guys opinions. my opinion is ps2 will be the best. look at all the great games out on it all ready. u think the good games like final fantasy will come out on xbox? i dought it. ill stick with sony even if the xbox is better i dont care. i used to have n64 and it sucked so i got a ps1 3 years ago and it was so much better then n64. xbox may be better but it will never live up to Sony.

That\'s actually not a bad idea. In a perfect world, MS or Sony would be distributing the hardware, while Nintendo and Sega concentrated on the games. Their company motto could be "We make the games, you do the buisness."

I respect your opinion of PS2 being the best but how can you say you\'ll stick with Sony even if Xbox proves to be better? Not telling you to dump your PS2 and buy an XBox but to not even give it a chance even when you admit it to be better makes you sound like a Sony fanboy.
Why contradict yourself by saying Xbox may be better but will never live up to Sony. How can you be better but still inferior?

It\'s not always the quality of the graphics, but the quality of the plot, and substance of the games. I\'ve noticed that people tend to move towards a certain system based upon how compatable a gamer is to the style of the majority of programmers for that system. XBox may perform better, but "Sony fans" enjoy games produced by sony more.
Notice I used majority and words as such to avaoid those few games that span across platforms.

But you\'re being vague by saying XBox may be better. What you probably mean is Xbox, according to the majority of opinion, is better. Just that your personal opinion differs.
