The reason I\'m posting this is simple: I want to know if we can get some kind of "petition" (and yes I know it\'s trite and overused) to let Sony know that lots of consumers are getting faulty PS2s. And many of them show signs of defectiveness outside their 90 day window of a warranty.
Let\'s not clog this thread with debates or useless crap. Please just vote here if you\'ve had a bad PS2 or would be willing to let Sony know that your experiences with their latest console have not been without error.
We have a lot of members here, and if we all showed interest in this, especially from a global point of view, we might see Sony change their policy.
-
I would sign a petition, even though I haven\'t had any problems with my PS2.
-
well the best way to succesfully get this done is to form an online petition and present it to multiple forums to get the biggest impact
I haven\'t had any problems so I can\'t complain
-
Well I had a problem with my PS2 and had to send it in to get fixed... Though I really don\'t see what Sony could do to prevent this from their next release. They had a short time to prepare for launch and just rushed their production they did it once and they\'ll do it again if nessacary. But the petition thing is worth a try I guess I would sign.
-
I\'ve yet to have any problem. And altough I take good care. My friends are less then perfect. With a petition though you should always have an option for the opposite. I would have vooted that I have not had a problem.
-
No problems here (had it since December).

Since when in a petition they offer the other side. Some girl came to my door last night to have me sign a clean air petition regarding a power plant here... She didn\'t offer me a dirty air petition.
-
I have had no problems since January (touch wood) but would like to sign petition anyway. (Always think of the future. It is only hardware and can fall apart with one wrong bump.)
-
Hold on now.
I\'m not defending defective hardware, but remember that we nerds on forums hear alot of sh!t.
Let\'s try to get actual numbers. What is the "defect rate"?
1%
5%
What?!?
Personally I believe it\'s waaay low, like <2%, which is par for any massively produced high tech machine.
How many MILLIONS of units are out there now??? .....And how many tens of horror stories have we heard??
-
Well my PS2 worked great so far, hope it lasts,
I would sign a petition though. :D
-
well mine is pissing me off
it won\'t let me play tekken for some reason now
it has never detected my arcadestick i bought
it has never sent the vibration function to any of my controllers
its ****ed up in the small ways which are showing signs to the big ones and seeing how i got it at launch its way past warranty - dang this sucks - i don\'t want to send it in but it seems to be in that direction already
-
I\'m completely satisfied with all my Sony products.
I refuse to sign.
-
I\'ll sign. Mine refuses to play certain DVDs and I\'ve seen too many threads about PS2s screwing up.
-
I\'ll sign it for the simple fact that Sony "games" are horrible!! Nintendo can produce Mario, Sega has there arcade style games and Sonic. Come on sony, forget about the music and phones for a while.
My PS2 freezes a bit in Xenogears.
-
You don\'t have to have a defective PS2 to sign this
If you have concern for the future of your system or your friend\'s system once it is no longer covered under warranty then you should sign. My unit was barely covered under warranty and there has been at least 2 people here who are going to have to pay $100+ to fix a Sony mistake. I don\'t want that to happen to me or anyone else.
And in case you have forgotten, in Japan lots of people are having to pay to have their PS2 lens replaced b/c it is faulty and GT3 A-spec will not play and Sony has acknoweledged this IS a hardware problem, but has no plans to re-imburse the consumer.
-
I have had no problems, but I shall sign because of peer-ressure :p,ohh and I don\'t want defective products either.
-
no problems here,
no problems with my friend either
-
I\'ve had my Playstation 2 since October and theres no problems here but it wouldn\'t hurt to sign.

I have the same problem and I hate it. When I first got it was fine then one day it pauses at the same character tha Heichtchi(whatever his name is guy) and I can never finish the game I hate that. I also hate when I put in a dvd and get the dashboard that kind of sucks. But all the dvds do play just sometimes it goes strait to dashboard. I would sign. Shoot you could take a psx back anytime and exchange it for another.

"mom, you gave me Penut Butter and Jelly, I asked for tuna. I\'m petitioning against you to make me better sandwiches." => "Sony, I got your PS2, it doesn\'t work perfectly. I\'m petitioning against you to make better hardware."
"You should appreciate that you are getting a sandwhich, I don\'t have to make you any sandwhiches at all."=>(Fill in analogie here)

Sony, I got your PS2, it doesn\'t work perfectly
Scratch out "perfectly".

ok then by your analogy my PS2 is like this
here is your sandwhich enjoy it but you can\'t eat it all because it starts to fall apart
or for some people its like this:
here is your sandwhich w/o bread now i need you to give it back to me with a hundred dollars to add bread
have a nice day :)

I\'ve had no problems with my PS2\'s (SCPH15000 and SCPH18000).
My only dissatisfaction would be the regional lockout for the games and movies.

Wrong.
Where as your mother was making the sandwich because she loves you. Sony is selling you a product. You are paying for this product. If you was paying for the sandwich your mother made you, then you\'d have a right to complain.
Sony sells PS2s and when they are faulty like quite a few or situations like the GT3 Japan situation arise, people cannot overlook the fact that there is something goin\' on and whatever it is , it is resulting in bad PS2 units. Therefor a petion and group awareness is in need.
People have the right to complain and shouldn\'t apperciate that Sony makes PS2s. We pay for them. They should apperciate us.

Man... i signed! took my ps2 back to retail for an exchange, i bought mine on july 3rd, 2001....:(
-
Mine developed problems, but I cleaned it and turned it horizontal, and except for the flickering (normal) of DVDs I\'m happy with it. I think this is the worst Sony product I\'ve bought to date, but I\'ve been SUPER happy with their in store customer care, and my 5 year old discman has survived numerous drops/-30 celcius/+35 celcius/moisture, so I get the feeling that the early PS2s had problems cause they were so rushed.
I also believe that the actual problems are probably happening to less than 1% of the population, and mostly affect people (like us) who play their ps2s in a month as much as normies play in a year :D. As it is, I\'m sure Sony is aware that the problems are hurting their image, and I\'ll bet the system and plants had a major check early in the launch.
-
The PS2 is built like a major class POS. Compare it to similar priced Home Theater/Computer equipment and you see how little quality you get for your money.
It\'s not Sony, it\'s the product. I have lot\'s of other Sony equipment TV, DVD player and a luuurvley polished aluminum DD/dts reciever and they all ooze quality, the PS2 does not. It\'s flimsy and tacky, for the huge amount of money it awful build quality.
Combined with the ****ty warranty, huge cost and expensive repairs, Sony fail to impress.
Oh and the fun and games at launch.
Game discs seem to be following suit with manufacturing errors leading to bad discs.
Perhaps I\'m just fussy, or just expect more for my money.
Will I sign?...with pleasure.
