My PS2 is doing overtime, this morning while playing TMB I looked at my selection of PS2 games and realized I hadn\'t touched SSX and Madden 2001 in ages so I quickly popped down to my local EB and traded both in for Street- what an excellent game!
I rarely agree with IGN, but their assesment of the game was spot on - it\'s an evolution of the NBA Jam formula - but with true shot blocking and the SSX style combos it becomes a true SKILL game - unlike Jam which was all about button mashing and CPU assist.
The graphics are wonderful, and the controls are very responsive and easy to pick up. I\'m having a blast - I love the \'Gamebreaker\' shots - when you do special trick moves you charge up a Gamebreaker meter, and when that\'s full you can take a gamebreaker shot - which not only gives you one (or two) points, it takes away the same amount from the other team! I also love the way, the camera zooms in, and does a nifty matrix-esque spin around the player as he takes the shot!
Man, TMB and now NBA Street, this is what we bought our PS2s for!

I was a big fan of NBA Jam back in the day. Maybe I\'ll try Street out if it\'s the same sort of formula.

I didn\'t get TM:B; but NBA Street is a tight game. WHenever I\'m not playing Sonic 2(GAWD this game is frustrating) I\'m playing Street.

Yeah Street is a riot
Very easy to pick up unlike TM:B
I would never buy a sim BBall game but an over the top arcade styled BBall game is just good fun.
I\'m trying to budget my time between both TM:B and NBA Street

I\'m really looking forward to this game, and I\'m sure I\'ll like it, BUT.... something about significant rule changes like this one makes me uneasy. Did they really have to change the rules to make this game fun? Can you switch off this "gamebreaker" feature? Are there any other odd rule changes present in this game? Thanks.

This is street ball in Arcade form. If you want to turn off features then you probably do not want NBA Street.
but I\'m not sure if features can be turned off or on cause I haven\'t goofed with the menu\'s enough to be able to tell you

I know this game isn\'t a basketball simulation; I think I\'ll enjoy it anyway as a departure from NBA Live. I think I\'ll like it even if you can\'t switch off the gamebreaker feature.
I was just wondering whether these things could be adjusted if necessary. My roommate and I are both hardcore NBA fans, and the "discussions" tend to become heated at times. Our NBA Live sessions can be tense, and I can just imagine the topic of "bullsh** rules" being raised if we play this game. I was just wondering.

I hope its something like NBA Jam maybe I should rent it sounds interesting.

Like the title of this post says, "This game kicks a**!" After playing this game for a few minutes, I have complete faith that the next installment of "live" will be great. This game is just too damn fun to play and it makes me want to call over friends right now so I can humiliate them with my Lakers. First TMB and now street. The PS2 is cooking.

wiseboy,
Though \'Street\' is amazing, I don\'t know if that will affect how NBA Live 2002 will turn out - I believe they\'re programmed by different teams (Street is made by EA Sports BIG). But here\'s hoping.
I\'ve just finished playing 5 straight hours of NBA Street versus one of my friends - it\'s an absolute blast. It seems so simple and NBA Jam-like on the exterior but there\'s so much more depth, and unlike Jam there\'s no stupid CPU assist and there\'s no fluke to winning as in Jam. There\'s also a great deal of strategy involved - for example I was destroying my friend with my Gamebreakers late in the game, but then he picked the Lakers and just played zone defense with Shaq (bastard just sat under the basket with him) - I couldn\'t beat him and I could raise my Gamebreaker meter - but then when you try and run more screens, and use the three ball more often I was able to balance things out.
I have only TWO problems with the game;
i)The threes are still a little random and need more skill associated with them to succed (maybe a powerbar like in NBA Inside Drive 2000 on the PC) - still, it\'s not like you can shoot threes with a centre so it\'s still not bad.
ii)NO FOUR PLAYER MODE!!!! F@)&*$(*@$!!!!! I can\'t f-ing understand why (oh why) EA Sports didn\'t include 4 player mode - this game would be like a crack party - you\'d never be able to stop playing.
Otherwise, this game is brilliant. Between this and TMB I\'m not going to be able to put down my DualShock2!!

I love nba street! I playes for three hours against my friend, then another 5 hours against the cpu. Damn, I must suck, cause when I played city circuit mode and put the difficulty to medium, it takes me about two times to beat each nba team. THose damn gamebreakers will either save you or kill you. If you go to ign.com and go to the codes section, they have all the codes. You can have no gamebreakers and even have the player names, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
