Title: Where\'s the best place to buy P4 ram?
Post by: Seraphim Pride on June 21, 2001, 03:56:23 PM
I have a P4(I don\'t wanna hear it!!!) and want to put an additional 256mb of ram into it but I\'ve heard from some people that you can\'t just buy 256mb of ram you have to buy like 2 64mb instead.  Can someone clear this up and suggest a good place.   Thanks

The P4 uses rdram, and it can only be used in pairs.

You should be able to get it from a bunch of online stores

I began by checking out http://www.pricewatch.com just to check out the price.

But I never buy online,so I really can\'t recommend a place.

I have had my P4 for about 3 months now.  You ahve to buy the memory in pairs like all memory has to be in pairs.  Only prob is that rdram is no where near as cheap as all of the other slower mem chips.  If you find a good 256meg chip price, please post it.  I\'d like to make a jump too.

I have a titanium powerbook with 512 megs of ram as well and it\'s kind of funny having a little laptop more powerful than my desktop.

Like No-One said try Crucial, they\'re the best...

Falcon 4 you didn\'t know the P4 was oout yet?! It\'s beeen out for so long and I think it sucks. The most ram it can have is 800 when AMD can have DDR PC2100 RAM

Simms had to be in pairs.  I don\'t mean they HAVE to be in pairs to work, I mean that if you have two chips they have to be the same size.  They can be different speeds, but the lower speed chip will be the speed since you can\'t go any faster then the slowest speed.  Am I all wrong?  I\'ve never seen chips that you don\'t have to add like chips to make work.

And yes this titanium is pretty nice.  I\'m not really into Macs though so I am a slow go for now.  I got stuck in OS X yesterday with no way out, but after quite a while I made it out.
