I just picked it up today and wanted this post to be from me typing on my DC, but for some reason it kept telling me I hadn\'t picked a forum to submit in. Oh well.. just kinda pisses me off that I spent 20 mins writing a four sentince thread that couldn\'t even go through. Eh, I don\'t think I\'ll be trying that one until I buy the keyboard addon.
I tell you one thing.. one of the bigger factors in the DC demise, IMO, is WalMart. The clerks are clueless.. always trying to get me to buy a PS2 instead.. a small darkened kiosk covered in dust.. and almost NO top name games! Sure there was Fur Fighters, Donald Duck:Going Quackers, Tomb Raider Last Revelation, and their illk in scores.. but only a few copys of anything decent. So I picked out Sonic Adventure and Resident Evil: CV along with a VMU. So far they are great games.. and now my appetite is whetted for Shenmue, JGR, SC5, House of the Dead, PSO, Soul Calibur.. and Q3 Arena or UT for some online fraggin fun. Damn, my money is running short. Anyone know if they still have that Free DC deal going on?? :D
BTW: Yeah, I know I\'ve preached about not liking platformers.. but what\'s a Sega console without at least on Sonic game!! It\'s too cutesy at times for me, but it\'s fun as hell so far!
1 down... 3 to go.

Unlucky for you...

Ah, a wise choice my friend.
For while we all may desire gaming nirvana from our PS2\'s, only a fool would disregard the DC\'s wealth of gaming pleasures.
Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Sonic Adventure 1&2, Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, House Of The Dead 2, Metropolis Street Racer, Grandia 2, Virtua Tennis, Shenmue, the list goes on......
It was a great machine, and had fantastic software, and therefore you were wise to add it to your hardware collection.
And of course, Virtua Tennis 2 will soon be out. Mmmm...

You callin me a fool?
I own a DC, and MSR was the one game I was hoping would show the world what the DC can do.
I was wrong.

Great purchase. An investment well spent. :)

MSR was not quite the game that lived up to the limitless hype by the gaming media, but it had great graphics, was a huge challenge, and sonically, tried to innovate (even if it didn\'t properly succeed).
Now are you trying to say that the DC hasn\'t a wealth of excellent games...?

hmm, racer
im suprised to hear you say these things
the DC has the most of the best games out there right now

Agreed.

I take offense sir, I happen to be one of those clueless Walmart clerks:D I never try to pitch a system, mostly because most people come in with a pretty good idea of what they want. When people do ask, most times in fact I tell them about Dreamcast being very inexpensive, and pitching IT because we run out of PS2\'s so often.
-
SonyFan, maybe you should ask the mods to change your name to SegaFan. :nut:
-
If you like RPGs, SKIES OF ARCADIA. LET ME REPEAT, SKIES OF ARCADIA.
Grandia 2 isn\'t bad either.
-
Yeah I got one recently too (well i\'ve owned it about a month).
Resident Evil: CV is a great game but it is very similar to the previous games. Some of the puzzles can be solved on sight without any thought if you have played the previous incarnations.
Sonic Adventure: This is another game I got with the unit. Im a tad bit disapointed in this game. Don\'t get me wrong its certainly a good game but I can\'t help feeling that a 2d game would have been better. When your flying round the loops its like its doing it for you in Sonic Adventure.
Jet Set Radio: This title is by far the best. Its original, its got style and it has gameplay. The graphics are pretty good too. Can\'t wait until a version of JSR is out on the PS2.
Overall im happy with the DC.

Well, you must be one of the 6 Wal-Mart employees nationwide who actually know what they\'re talking about. Every time I\'d go in and look at the DC selection, I\'d have some geek come up saying... "the DC\'s dead ya know.. you\'d be much better off blowing your cash on a N64 or PS2." Granted, not every low level clerk can be an expert with what they sell.. but damn. It\'s like they get a bonus for pushing a more expensive system. Tell me.. do you get paid incentive under the table? ;)
I dunno.. most casual gamers I know buy their systems at either Wal-Mart, Kmart, or Meyers. None of those places seem to give a crap about the DC anymore though. Like I said.. they can\'t even stock decent games. Oh nooooo but there\'s 3 rows of Army Men: Green Rouge for the PS2 just on the other side of the display! Grrrr....

Naw.. I like the oxymoron. Really, if there\'s any company you could call me a "fanboy" of, it\'s old skool Sierra. I\'d change my name to that, but I don\'t like the present day company they\'ve become. And don\'t get me wrong.. it\'s not like I\'m not excited about the PS2.. I just want to wait awhile for the price to drop, till their online plan is available, and there\'s plenty of great games to choose from. Right now, there\'s a lot of decent games.. but really not many gotta have titles ya know. Least that\'s my opinion from what I\'ve played on my cuz\'s PS2.

yeah, but who really buys thier games from wal-mart?

Wise words. I wish I had done the same. Going to all that trouble to get a PS2 when my second hand DC is being used more. Although I am from the UK and its literally a different world when you walk into a shop and they are hyping the bouncer as just being released, when its been released months ago in the USA and Japan.
I suppose in America I would get a PS2, but as a UK gamer with the selection of games we have, I would have sooner waited.

ahhh SonyFan, one of the bigest Sega fans on this board, you have finally opened up a new world unto yourself.
Dreamcast, in its measly two years provided me with more wasted hours than any console has within the last 15 years.
some games you MUST pick up:
Skies of Arcadia (IMO, best RPG since Chrono Trigger)
Shenmue (I promise, after 1st disk it gets NUTZOID!)
NBA2k1, NFL2K1 (online play baby! and perfected at that!)
Sonic Adv. 2 (excellent and 3 times better than Adv.)
Crazy Taxi 1 and 2 (they are ass cheap and loads of fun)
Street Fighter 3: 3rd strike (I would kick your ass at this game, but you gotta give the 2D some love)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (excellent looking and playing)
Samba de Amigo (excellente! (thats spanglish for "great")
Virtual On: OT (with the Twinsticks only :))
SF Rush: 2049 (arcade thrills)
PSO (provided me with 300 hours with ONE character!)
Shenmue 2 (classic before it is even released)
Toejam and Earl 3 (funkify!)
there are a bunch of others, but those are must buys.
and I agree with the s&m guy, anyone who plays games must have a DC, otherwise, they are fools, especially because of the miniscule price!

I plan on getting a DC soon.
Im going to get PSO.
Ready to start that QFG clan, sonyfan?
I get to be Bruno.
-
I have had a dreamcast for 3 years, I a love every minute of it. I got a Japanese import the week it came out in Japan. I was soo happy.

"yeah, but who really buys thier games from wal-mart?" - mm
Shut up, mm. I buy my games at Walmart. You kinda have to when you live an hour away from the closest Babbages or Funcoland. I guess that\'s what I get for living in the styx. Least my rent is only 400 a month for a 4 bedroom house (2 living rooms, a dining room, and a two car garage) instead of those saps payin 800 a month for a 2 bedroom apartments. :D
Altered, almost anything I buy I\'m going to rent first.. even if I know it\'s almost assured that it\'s a AAA title. That\'s the only way to be sure that I\'ll like it. Shenmue 1&2, PSO (as long as it\'s not Pay per Play), Seaman, Headhunter, VO:OT, Soul Calibur, HotD2, MSR, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, SA 2, and MAYYYYBE ToeJam and Earl would probably be the only exceptions to that rule.

Yeah, as long as it\'s not Pay per Play. I don\'t even have a credit card to pay it with. Maybe if SoA talks SoJ into lowering the price to 10 bucks for 3 months, or at least 15 bucks for 3 months.. then I\'ll consider it.
Heh, Bruno eh? Better get a Keyboard for your DC or you\'d be better off being Toro. Short few syllable sentinces are all you\'d realistically be able to type using the controller. :)

the DC has the most of the best games out there right now
And they still have a few last gasps out there.
ShenmueII and Propellar Arena (which will come packaged with the mic for SegaNet play) come to mind right off hand, not to mention Ooga Booga, which looks kinda fun, and NFL 2K2, which also looks cool.
I play my sisters\' DC every time I visit my dear sweet Ma. I really like this system.
