From EGM
"When I pick hardware to do a game, I don\'t look at the specs of the machine. I don\'t really care about that stuff. I don\'t care about how good the system is, because all consoles right now are at about the same level of power. I look at the audience that it has. Releasing a Metal Gear game on a Nintendo console would be ridiculous. I don\'t know about GameCube, but [their] machines [until now] have been for younger kids." - Hideo Kojima
[/b]
So, what do you think it will take to convince Hideo Kojima to bring titles like Metal Gear Solid: SoL to the GameCube? Do you think we will ever see games like MGS: SoL and Silent Hill 2 on Nintendo\'s next system?
-
i could see him develpoing games for nintendo if Gamecube does very well and the playstation 2 begins to slip in sales.

Well so much for nintendo getting mgs2 and silent hill. Darn kiddy games............

I don\'t think so. Even if the NGC sells very well, he will not develope MGS for it because most people would not even be old enough to buy it. If the PS2 did start to do poorly, I think he would go over to the Xbox.
-
ahhhhhhh, more \'confirmation on the kiddy prowess. Nintendo really arent getting a good reputation with their machine early on are they? ahh well, ill still be playing Perfect Dark, Too Human, and mebbe even a little Zelda (my friends will make me play Zelda, bastards)
But this just \'proves\' once again...you want the best games, you get a PS2 :):fro::)

Very true ironfist, the average nintendo fan is 6-13years old, so they won\'t even be old enough to play mgs2. As for silent hill 2 that may give the little kids nightmares.
-
nope not a good reputation........to many pokemon games on n64

Want to get HK to develop mature titles for Nintendo? Make Nintendo\'s first party developers develop something really "mature" for the GCN. If the 1st party Nintendo developers stay as they are, then I don\'t see HK jumping behind them anytime soon. The reputations we build for ourselves is how we will be judged in the future.

I agree ryu thats nintendo\'s problem. They do to many darn kiddy games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
-
I didn\'t mean they made too many "kiddy" games, but what I meant was that Nintendo is unwilling to take that leap into the mature area of development. It\'s like Disney doing an R-rated movie. It\'s just not happening anyime soon.

Well when you have a certain image and a lock on a certain market all to yourself you don\'t want to mess that up. Just think How Disney would be looked upon if they made a movie that was NC17. When you can make tons of money with what you got that is what you tend to stay with it.
-
There are tasteful ways to make mature games. Goldeneye was not mindless violence every second. There was other things to do and it was a game that had a lot of depth in the gameplay elements. If Nintendo had made that game themselves, I\'m sure with a few more titles along those lines, that "kiddy" label would be gone for good.
-
I can see disney making a "r" rated movie of fantasia 2001, Mickey goes phyco and kills everyone with some breif nudity of micky and minny. Blood flying everywhere with ghosts and monster and some other freaky stuff.....like mickey getting drunk at a strip club.
-
hsahahahahahah nintendo is goin down! ( im just kidding arounf plz dont flame me )
-
Disney has one of the oldest and most respected movie studios in the business and when they wanted to start making more "adult" movies they made Touchstone Pictures. It is a Disney company but it handles their "mature" releases. I think Nintendo should do something along these lines. They aren\'t going to make a mature game because they don\'t want to lose their family friendly image, which IMO is good business-wise for Nintendo.

Damn that article is old. I read that way back in October or November. Ah well, I guess some people just aren\'t that quick.
So, what do you think it will take to convince Hideo Kojima to bring titles like Metal Gear Solid: SoL to the GameCube?
Didn\'t he explained why in that part you posted? You must have a very short attention span. j/k ;)
Do you think we will ever see games like MGS: SoL and Silent Hill 2 on Nintendo\'s next system?
I don\'t think we will, I know we will. In fact, two titles instantly came to mind when you said that: Perfect Dark 2 and Eternal Darkness.
I see it as a trade-off. PS2 gets MGS2, a game which you\'lll be bored with within 2-3 months, and GameCube gets Perfect Dark 2, a game that you\'ll get bored with...wait I\'ve played Goldeneye every day till PD came out and now I play that everyday! I like that trade. :)
Here\'s another one: PS2 gets Silent Hill 2, a game that will last around 10-15 hours like the original. And GameCube gets Eternal Darkness, a game which will last 40-45 hours long(yeah, it\'s a survival horor too)! Another great trade IMO of course.
*note* I\'m not saying MGS2 or SH:2 will be bad games, I\'m just saying I\'m looking forward to ET and PD2 a lot more. :p
Damn that Hideo is a gimp, doesn\'t he realize yet that Goldeneye out-sold his precious MGS and they both target the same age group? GET A CLUE! There are Nintendo fans who are willing to pay money for more adult oriented games! BAH!
Even if the NGC sells very well, he will not develope MGS for it because most people would not even be old enough to buy it
Look above and repeat that statement if you still believe it.
But this just \'proves\' once again...you want the best games, you get a PS2
Or....you can do what I do get more than one console!
That was merely your opinion BTW, not fact...
Amen to that brother!
Damn white people...
*yawn* That was easier than I thought it would be.

i know it is opinion, hence why i said "proven" with air quotes (or whateva they are called)
and most people cant get more than one console

Jumpman nice try but mgs2 isn\'t coming to gamecube. Don\'t blame me hideo said the machine is too kiddy(Something I been saying about nintendo since day 1). IMO the less 3rd parties the worst off the system is. Yeah jumpman you wouldn\'t be calling hideo names if mgs2 was coming to gamecube would you? Its okay for you to let alittle steam off cause nintendo\'s not getting no big 3rd party games.
-
*yawn* Haven\'t you realized yet that your not on the same intelligence level with me?

In case you still don\'t understand then I shall tell you what I\'m trying to say directly: I don\'t care if MGS2 isn\'t coming to NGC.
Don\'t blame me hideo said the machine is too kiddy(Something I been saying about nintendo since day 1
Then who am I supposed to blame? Goldneye solf over SEVEN MILLION copies, that\'s more than his MGS game sold and they\'re both targeted at the same age group. That alone proves that the machine is not too kiddy for MGS2.
IMO the less 3rd parties the worst off the system is.
That\'s fine, you can have your own twisted, insane, and extremely uneducated opinion if you want. I can\'t change how you think.
Ah, you edited your post, more food for me.
Yeah jumpman you wouldn\'t be calling hideo names if mgs2 was coming to gamecube would you?
Obviously I wouldn\'t you gimp! That\'s like saying, "OMG! Your bleeding!", after someone gets shot!
It\'s his reason for not bringing MGS2 to NGC that ubsets me. I honestly don\'t care if MGS2 comes to NGC or not because the MGS was too short and didn\'t have enough replay value for me so I wouldn\'t purchase it if it did come out for NGC, but does he have to be a moron about not bringing it?
Its okay for you to let alittle steam off cause nintendo\'s not getting no big 3rd party games.
God your an idiot. Ok, what third parties am I missing if I were to limit myself to Nintendo only? Square? Woop di doo. Konami? *yawn* Namco? Got them. Sega? Got ALL of them.
Do you know what\'s funny? For N64 I mainly bought 1st or second party games. I only had about...1 or 2 third party game yet I was completely satisfied with the system. Point- Nintendo\'s first and 2nd parties alone are enough for me to buy their systems.
-

That ain\'t bashing :D
that is just him stating his Opinion. :D
-
It\'s simple to solve this problem. Since Nintendo wants to keep that "Family Friendly" image, they HAVE to have their 2nd parties make a decent amount of mature games. Of course, Capcom doesn\'t see Nintendo\'s audience the same way since they are releasing RE:0 and released RE:2 for N64.
Mature games can sell well on GC. The only thing that Hideo is doing is trying to get the sure deal. He doesn\'t want to take any risks (in his mind) with the GC. His opinion won\'t change until the mature games on GC do well.
So far, all the major mature games are:
Eternal Darkness
Metroid
Too Human
Perfect Dark
Resident Evil 0
Raven Blade
If these sell well, then I forsee a version of Silent Hill and MGS for GC, but if they don\'t sell well, then I doubt we\'ll see those on GC.
-
In that sense Gohan, Nintendo does have their own little "mature" company... it\'s called Rare. I don\'t think HK is fooled by that though as his above comments state.

well lets think about that for a second
ok thought about - there were not exactly a big selection of N64 games - thats true when comapred to PSOne - ok i am sorry but i am not sure how many N64s were sold - i forgot the number so sue me ;)
but anyway that number was high and when there is a slim selection of games for the console - well you everyone buys the good ones and since there were not a lot of games to buy like say PSOne then you are able to buy all the hit games for the system - say Goldeneye/Mario/Zelda/Perfect Dark/etc etc etc.
therefore its kinda like everyone that owns an N64 has a lot of the same great titles hence thats the reason many of the games sold so many - and hell Goldeneye is just a lot of fun
sorry that was kinda confusing even for myself - hate when you try to say something and it comes out all jumbled
-
I can see that many devs are seeing GC as a console marketted at the younger audience (14 and below). However those are the developers, I see GC as family system, the both from the best worlds (mature and kiddie). It certainly is less kiddie than n64 was with more mature games coming out for it. The only thing kiddie baout gamecube its extremly ugly design (this is My opinion) Admit it, it looks like a fisherprice toy???! Who would be a pink GC, even die hards like jumpman wouldn\'t?? Right?
I\'m sticking to ps2 and xbox/pc and will probably pick up an old DC along the line
-
You guys are stupid!!! Dumb fanboy Cube haters!!! GameCube is getting Metal Gear Solid 2: SoL!!!
It\'s called Metal Gear Solid 2: Sh!t outa Luck !!!

Okay just cause its not coming to gamecube you don\'t care about mgs2.
Then who am I supposed to blame? Goldneye solf over SEVEN MILLION copies, that\'s more than his MGS game sold and they\'re both targeted at the same age group. That alone proves that the machine is not too kiddy for MGS2.

Heck I have a twisted, insane opinion. Your the one that like n64. Nuff said.
Ah, you edited your post, more food for me.

Okay thats fine you got your opinion about mgs2 but that problem my most wanted game this year excepted for tekken 4. Hideo just said the nintendo doesn\'t have the right audinece for his games. What\'s so bad about that. Strange how xbox can get silent hill 2 and mgsx while nintendo just gets kiddy games.
God your an idiot. Ok, what third parties am I missing if I were to limit myself to Nintendo only? Square? Woop di doo. Konami? *yawn* Namco? Got them. Sega? Got ALL of them.
Sure you nintendo fanboys can live off one game a year. But I can\'t I need games to come out on consisted base. Oh yeah something n64 lack was rpg, fighting games, shooters, and only one surivial horror(re2).
Do you know what\'s funny? For N64 I mainly bought 1st or second party games. I only had about...1 or 2 third party game yet I was completely satisfied with the system. Point- Nintendo\'s first and 2nd parties alone are enough for me to buy their systems.
You brought first and 2nd party game cause you didn\'t have a choice. There were not any 3rd party games!!!!!!!!!The few there were sucked!!!!!!!! That\'s fine that the system satisfied you but I\'m sorry I can\'t wait 6 months for a new game to come out for a console. N64 had almost as many died periods with games as the jaguar. Sure it may not matter to you but someone out there cared about 3rd parties. Why did ps1 outsell n64 last time I heard 82million(ps1) to 36million(n64).
-
How well did the Metal Gear games sell on the NES? Since he views it as a "kiddy" system, the game shouldn\'t have sold well, right?
-
well, look at this, Capcom is making Resident Evil 0, exclusive to GC for a year. (Then it will be ported to every next gen) If Metrioid and RE0 do well, maybe it will open hideo\'s eyes. Now, I am buying a GC for these 2 games, and a few others. So lests all suport these games on GC, and give Hideo what for!

I was thinking about Rare too; but it would have more affect if they made one of their Mature 2nd Parties a first party or started a new development house to make adult games. They just started a new development house consisting of Digipen students and hopefully they will bring some hip adult games to the system.
-
Its not looking good for Nintendo I don\'t think they will ever have Metal Gear Solid on its system and its a valid reason. Its that Nintendo has gone to the kids making all those kids games they lost a lot of their audience.

Boring. Reply to the rest of my post which you completely skipped, unless you know your totally wrong.
Before you come back with another pathetic "Nintendo doesn\'t have enough 3rd parties" argument then read this then shut the hell up.

While I could care less about Nintendo getting MGS2 because I\'ll have it for the PS2, I disagree with your statement. Although MGS was an excellent game its sales paled in comparison to just about ALL of the 1st party N64 releases. IMO, MGS isn\'t a system maker/breaker; but games like FF and Zelda are for some reason. I think if a AAA game is released for a system, that people don\'t own, more people will get the console if the game is NOT an M rated title.

actually disney DID release an NC-17 movie. it was called "The Priest" about a gay priest who does a bunch of nasty stuff. It was released under Touchstone pics though.

These kinds of comments give me Nightmares. The average fan of Nintendo is far from 6-12! Do you even understand that age group? Where did you pick up these stats? Or was it just something you decided to make up or exaggerate? Have you ever been to any of the Nintendo Sites? IGN could even be a main example. Even go to all the little Nintendo sites; see if you can find the average is, instead of what you think the average age is. I promise you, it\'s not 6-12 yrs old. With comments like these it just shows that you can\'t see anything past Pokemon, and you will be missing out on some truly great games.
-
I recall that there was an interview with Hideo Kojima in some magazine (can\'t recall the name) that asked him whether there was a chance of MGS coming to the N64. He said something like they would have to change some of the textures and colors, etc.. and that they weren\'t thinking about doing it anytime soon (I believe that was around 1997).
Now, it would be \'ridiculous\' to release a MGS game on a Nintendo system? What about MGS on the GBC, arguably the system with the youngest audience ever? And didn\'t the MGS start on the NES? The GameCube could handle MGS2. I don\'t see why it couldn\'t.
Other reasons why I find it hard to swallow that it would be \'ridiculous\' to realease a MGS game on the GameCube: Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 4, Turok 4, Eternal Darkness, Too Human, Metroid, Raven Blade, Perfect Dark 0, etc...
(I believe that only 2 of those aren\'t exclusive, too)
With a library of those kind of games coming out for the GameCube already (a number slated for launch, also)... Why wouldn\'t MGS2 fit in? The only games there that probably won\'t be rated M is Metroid (possibly Raven Blade... don\'t know enough on the game).
And does he honestly think that MGS2 wouldn\'t sell well on the GameCube? The sequel to arguably one of the best games on the PSX? One of the most anticipated titles for the year/next year?
Nintendo has Silicon Knights working for them... They focus on bringing two things that the GameCube needs: RPG\'s, Action/Adventure w/ a more \'mature\' focus. They also have Rare who every once in awhile develop a fps... or another conker game.
Also: I\'d have to agree with this other person about the age group mentioned... 6-13? I don\'t think so...
I\'m 15 1/2 and I\'ve played MGS all the way through. I know a lot of friends who have, too, who are in the same age group.
Oh yeah... that Hideo Kojima quote was before E3, also. Something to keep in mind.

Is that the best ****ing argument that you could come up with? Well, you just yourself look real pittiful. You couldn\'t even think of a decent argument, you just tried to insult me(in a lame way might I add).Sigh, I take it your mother must have dropped you on your head numerous times when you were a baby.

Well the bottom line is nintendo makes kiddy games. You are the one that acts like you were drop on your head. Dang you defend nintendo like there your god. What does nintendo do take care(pay your rent) of you and give you money? I mean everytime someone has something negitive to say about nintendo here comes ol jumpman to defend them. I understand you like them but this is taking fanboyism to the next level. As for my arugment there nothing left to say but mgs2 or silent hill 2 isn\'t coming to gamecube? Why? Cause nintendo\'s too kiddy those are hideo\'s words not mine. Heck the less developers for nintendo the better for sony and MS. Oh yeah I read your link Whoa gamecube is getting extreme g3 and they have akklame signed as developers(in other words..........Big Deal). Whoa................call me back when namco, square, capcom, or konami anncounces a big gamecube game. From what I can see this is looking like n64 2 as far as 3rd party development goes.

Worst. Argument. Ever. Your just repeating yourself and I don\'t feel like repeating my words again.
I can see you just kind of pulled that out of your ass hence the horrible spelling and grammar in it.
I defend Nintendo because you attack them for idiotic reasons. They have no 3rd party support, they\'re too kiddy, blah blah blah your an idiot.
Read that ****ing article I posted. And if you reply with one more stupid post then your going on my ignore list. I better get it ready now because I doubt you will get smarter over the next 10 minutes...

Just read what i put above thats what I have to say about nintendo. I\'m not saying mgs2 wouldn\'t sell I\'m just saying nintendo doesn\'t need to make so many kiddy games. I don\'t mind a few but dang thats all they do. I just think M$ is getting bigger games from the 3rd parties like mgsx, silent hill x, dino crisis 3, onimusha, doa3, project gothem, and sega games. That\'s just the 3rd party games and that imo destory nintendo\'s 3rd party list of games so far. They need to do better than just getting akklame. 3rd parties is the key look at how sony beat nintendo last generation.

Your the one making stupid replys. Your just mad cause people are bashing nintendo for kiddy games. YOur the one calling hideo names just cause he doesn\'t want to develop for gamecube. What I\'m saying I think ps2 and xbox are going to have more and better 3rd party game than gamecube. Plus I\'m not even impressive with the system in the first place. To end this argument IMO I think nintendo has way too many kiddy games to interest me over xbox.

To start, Sega is pledging full support to the Gamecube. And remember that amidst filth like the wrestling games, Acclaim has produced a few gems like Turok and ASB (which systems were those released on, by the way?), and they will be porting the acclaimed (pun, woops!) Crazy Taxi series to GCN.
Anyway, if you think the games you mentioned beat down Nintendo\'s pending third party lineup, then I can\'t argue with that. (It\'s your opinion, afterall.) But I would like to point out that even with the Gamecube\'s 3rd-party lineup looking to come out twice as strong as the last generation, Nintendo has gone further and snatched up even more second-parties. What this does is throw a wrench into your 3rd-party-only formula. Nintendo will have great games coming from each of these companies, and they will all be exclusive. (Unlike certain projects from the majority of third-parties).

All people have to go by for Nintendo so far, is there past reputation with the N64.
The N64 had more games geared towards kids than it did games geared toward adults. 2 to 3 times more.
Until Nintendo RELEASES a good amount of adult oriented games, then it will maintain its kiddy image.
That is an UNDISPUTABLE FACT.
Amen!!!!!!!! That\'s what I have been saying.

Lucas Arts, Konami, Sega, Acclaim, THQ, EA Sports, Capcom, Kemco, Midway, BAM Entertainment, Ubi Soft, Saffire, Climax, and Fox Interactive have already given release dates for specific Gamecube projects (many of which will be available by Christmas). The list by no means shows every third party in development, however, as there\'s a notable absence from such reknowned companies as Titus. *snicker*
Back on topic, the third parties are there. Maybe not all of them, but Nintendo doesn\'t need all of them. Why? (Say it with me!) First and second parties! (Yay! *clapclapclap*) That\'s right, on top of all those other companies (some of the top third parties in the world, like it or not) comes even more [great] games. Many more.
Overall, the third-party situation is looking up, and even if it doesn\'t meet someone\'s standards, the overall gaming library surely will.

Actually, you\'ve just been flaming Jumpman and going off on some obscure third-party tangent.
But let\'s say this is actually what you\'ve been saying all along:

That is an UNDISPUTABLE FACT.
Let\'s see... "until..." "will..." Sounds to me like your undisputable fact is just you predicting the future. In that case, let me give you an undisputable fact of my own! (God this is fun :)) With a succesful advertising campaign, Nintendo will shed its alleged mainstream kiddy image before the Gamecube even launches.
That is an UNDISPUTABLE FACT.
(lol)

I will be the first to admit that they are doing a much better job this time around.
But until those "mature" games get out to market, most gamers will still consider them a "kiddie" system.

If we agree that their image is "kiddy," then you\'re right.
I disagree with that, personally, but I\'m not going to speak for the unspoken majority (they can speak for themselves, though likely they won\'t, being unspoken and everything). Besides, I think you might be right about that one.
PS. Note to jumpman: that\'s what the end of a debate looks like. ;]

I know, thats what I was saying. Disney wouldn\'t release it under the "Disney" name because they would tarnish their family image. Thats what Nintendo needs to do, start a new development house ala Touchstone.
