Title: NBA Street...jaggies anyone?
Post by: w1ngman on June 27, 2001, 07:13:46 PM
Okay, who\'s our resident "jaggie-b1tcher"...  Can s/he pick apart NBA STREET?  I mean, I\'m impressed to all get-out over this game.  Arcade to the max, but still quite sweet.  Check out the circles on the courts...them circles be circles...not jaggie ovals, etc..  Who would say "nay"?  And the players?  How \'bout the backboards, etc.?

Are jaggies present?  Well, yeah, a "titch"...but for anyone that wishes to suggest that "...jaggies are screaming all over the screen..." (as was suggested in TM:B), I say "wake up and look at great-lookin\' gamin\'" :D

More and mre games are coming out on the PS2 with little or no aliasing problems

TM:B in screenshots has jaggies, but playing the game its pretty damn smooth, of course the game moves to fast for me to actually check much out but graphically TM:B looks so much better then in Screenshots.

Street, is a fine game in almost all counts. Animations need a touch up in the transitions and are not as smooth as SSX, btu still rock.

Claypool, my point was meant to say that its NOT really an issue any longer...  Don\'t go crazy...I was not really trying to stir anything up; I was trying to say that our PS2 games are looking extraordinarily sweet.

But thanks for further proving my argument.

Right-O!  What\'s waaaaaay cool too is that as you get further up the ladder (more players/courts) the competition can get absolutely FIERCE! :D

What\'s your best gamebreaker score

Wha\'ts your average

I pulled off a 480,000 and a few 400,000 but mostly I get around 200,000. I know lots of people are averaging 500,000 but for the life of me I can\'t figure out how, but I haven\'t played NBA Street as much as I\'d liek to do to time restraints and TMB

Jaggies can be annoying and they have been since gaming existed, but if a game is fun......then it\'s fun and that\'s all that matters.  I enjoyed Ridge Racer V for what it was worth with all jaggie goodness it offered up.  I don\'t think I would have enjoyed it any more had it been jaggie free.

ddaryl:

First, I don\'t recall off hand my best points total or anything of that nature but I do know how you can pad your gamebreaker count/points.  Don\'t score.  Get a comfortable lead, block the hell outta the other guy\'s goal, steal when you can, and then do a buncha fakeouts when you have the ball.  Hold out for alley-oops rather than dunks and such when you do score and try to get at least three gamebreakers, that should do quite a bit for your points total...and get in close to the goal before you trigger the gamebreaker to get better points.

A gamebreaking dunk on the twenty first point has, for me thus far, always produced a busted rim for another 25K to the total...

I do. I hate them. I\'ll deal with them but it really makes a good looking game look not so good. I can still have fun lwith a game but I so much rather see FSAA in  all  games

Um, in a word, "YUP"

Obviously, it is its very own game & completely different from TM:B.  But strictly from a "goodness" standpoint, I\'ve personally never played a more enjoyable, kick@$$, smackmouth game of roundball on the squarescreen than NBA Street.  Great game.  WEEEELLLLL worth your money!

Jaggies don\'t piss me off as much as low poly environments and models :D

I\'ve actually found myself playing "street" more than TM:B. Not to say that TM:B doesn\'t kick a**, but as I\'ve said elsewhere, NBA street is just so freakin\' addictive!! A truly great game.

By the way, I think the graphics are great and me personally I don\'t really notice any jaggies(unless of course I stop myself in the middle of the action to look for them. But why would I want to do that when I\'m having so much fun playing?)

Jaggies don\'t bother me, theres worse problems where graphics are concerned, slowdown and blurrly textures to name two.

I also heard that NBA Street kicks. I was thinking of picking this up, but im not a basketball fan in anyway possible. After saying that though im also not a footy fan as such yet enjoy playing Fifa.

Will I like NBA Street ?

Also on the PSW disc footage when the ball flies through the air and the background is whizzing past theres some bad slowdown, was that just beta footage ? does the actual game contain slowdown ?

Although everyone has a right to do so, I can\'t imagine anyone not enjoying this game!  Bottom line is playing this game = having fun.  Simple formula.  As far as slowdown...not that I\'ve seen...jeez, the plays fly soooo fast back & forth I really don\'t even have time to blink!  Seriously, my eyes *hurt* after playing Street cuz I\'m pretty sure I don\'t take a proper opportunity to blink (and wearing contacts while playing Street should have a disclaimer on the game box! :D )

absolutely not, NBA Street has no slowdown whatsoever. I like this game very much. Although I had to rent it because I have no money (TM:B!!) i will eventually buy this game because im a big fan of the NBA JAM series and this game brings back that style of gameplay. The game is fun even when you lose, lets put it that way...

Well I know some people that are pretty anal about jaggies and even ***** about them in GT3, which has very little to begin with. I mean it\'s the best looking racer out there and they still ***** sigh....

NBA Street is one amazing game. I\'m scared to play it because everytime I do, too much time passes by. ;)

It has no slowdown whatsoever, but, I guess you guys didn\'t notice the V-Sync problem it has...

The background sometimes tears in order to keep up with the action. I suppose they did that so the game would have no slowdown whatsoever..  Look for it, you\'ll see what I mean. Tearing is usually a symptom on the PC when you disable V-Sync on your video card to achieve higher frame rates.

The point? That the game is so damn fun, barely anyone would notice that little problem. Normally it would have pissed me off, but I love the game too much.

I see Some Gamecube and XBox have jaggies too so I am not going to complaint about ps2 games anymore.  I prefer jaggies with fast and smooth framerate than slowdown with no jaggies.
Title: Jaggies...not a problem unless they seriously take away from the game...

Which in games like SSX, TM:B, and GT3, not a problem whatsoever. Type S, yeah, but this game has other issues then just graphics as well.

Back to NBA Street, it was either this game, or TM:B. I choose TM:B. Maybe I\'ll rent or even buy NBA Street eventually, but I\'m not really a big basketball fan (then again, I\'m not really a sports game fan in general, yet I play SSX to death).
