I get the same thing sometimes! The best solution I\'ve had so far is to move all of the other files into another folder. Then delete the original folder. Then re-create the folder and move all the files back.
It\'s a bit of a hassle, but it works (hopefully)!

You could always delete it from DOS .
Boot into DOS (assumin\' you are runnin\' 98 or below).
If you want, you can also do it from the Start Menu MS-DOS Command Prompt
Anyways......
Go to the directoy it is in.
Example.
I want to go to C:\\PS2 , I\'d type at the prompt which would look like this
C:\\Windows
cd C:\\PS2 --- The "cd\' stands for change directory. Make sure you spell the directoy name correctly. If all goes well it will move you to the next prompt which will look like this.
C:\\PS2
Then if the file name is SamWiseIsCute.mp3
Type
del SamWiseIsCute.mp3 -- Once again. Make sure everything is spelled correctly!
If all goes well, it should go to the next prompt which just says
C:\\PS2
Which is lettin\' ya know everything is okay.
From there, just type EXIT

Try clicking the "MS-DOS Prompt" icon on your start menu, and delete the file in DOS. I wonder if you know dos commands? Is it possible that anyone doesn\'t know them anymore? An interesting question... heh heh
Navigate to the correct directory with the "cd" command, and then delete the file with the "del" command.
[edit: LIC I just saw your post, you beat me to it. But he doesn\'t actually have to boot into DOS, does he? Try the "MS-DOS Prompt" icon first.]

You\'re right. I totally forgot about MS-DOS prompt. I edited my post, then I saw your post and this.
Great minds think alike, eh?
;)
I highly suggest, if you get a chance get ahold of some DOS books and documentation. It willl come in handy alot of times.

Ok, this may seem odd... but the FTP program called CuteFTP is totally awesome at dealing with files that are otherwise hard to delete/move/copy for some strange reason. I\'ve had files that I couldn\'t delete in Explorer/DOS and CuteFTP could do it. Very weird but true. :)
Oh, I also had a 400 mb file on a strange CD that my CD-ROM drive couldn\'t read very well. In Explorer/DOS the file couldn\'t be copied whole - it ended after 20 megs or 100 megs, or something like that. With CuteFTP I could copy the whole file (even if it took a bit longer than normally). Trust me, try that program if you have a weird file (even if it wasn\'t built for file manipulation). :)
