Title: Anyone own Tokyo Xtreme Racer, if so please answer these questions.
Post by: RichG on July 04, 2001, 08:33:20 AM
Hi,

Im thinking of buying this game but have some queries which none of the reviews answer.

1) In the game can you change routes and paths?

a) Nope its one long road with no turn offs.
b) You can change routes, say take an offramp but it eventually leads back to the same piece of track which means its more like selecting a way to the goal rather than deciding where to drive.
c) Yep in a race you can take a offramp and go a completly different area of the track and continue racing there.

2) In a race, do you

a) Drive around and the person in the lead can basically take offramps and the other person has to follow.
b) Both players follow some arrow leading to a set goal.

3) How much track can you race on before loading screens.

a) To begin with some is locked but once more track has been unlocked you can race on it without any loading, anotherwords once the whole freeway has been unlocked you can race on it with no loading.
b) Unfortunatly when you unlock an area its like a level, and has to be loaded. You cant access new areas unless you have selected them and they have been louded.
c) A bit of A and B, you can race over unlocked areas with no loading but you have to load different "sections" up which may contain a few pieces of the highway, but once you have reached the boarder of these you need to stop.

4) How much is this game car orientated.

a) Most of the game is tuning up cars, if you have no interest in cars you won\'t like this game.
b) Its a racing game, the car tuning is just extra, you will like this game if you like racing.
c) Car tune up?

5) So all you do is race, add extras to the car, race, add extras to the...

a) Yep thats the idea, and no it isnt boring.
b) Yep thats the idea, yeah it becomes boring
c) No theres more to it, let me explain...

6) FOR UK PAL OWNERS ONLY...

a) The game includes 50/60Hz and Screen Centering Options, and the screen centering options can be saved.
b) the game includes A) but unfortunatly you need to set the screen each time (Sky Odyssey Style).
c) The game only includes Screen Centering Options (Like Tekken).
d) The game only includes 50/60 hz mode.
e) The game doesnt include screen centering options or 50/60Hz mode (Gun Griffon Blaze Style)
f) Other.

7) Finally any comments on the game which I may find interesting.

a) Yes...
b) Nope!

Thanks

1) In the game can you change routes and paths?

It\'s like one big gigantic highway. It\'s just like a regular highway. As soon as you start racing with another car, you can take an offramp into another part of the highway and continue racing. Just imagine driving in real life on the highway.

2) In a race, do you .....

You start off in your garage and pick your car. You then pick which part of the highway you would like to start out from and you begin driving around. You can take a look at the minimap and look for rivals. You drive up to them and flash your lights and the race begins. It ends when your "meter" goes down. That can happen from : distance from rival too far, crashing, etc. Occasionally, gang leaders will be the one to challenge you instead of you challenging them.

3) How much track can you race on before loading screens?

You have to unlock the rest of the track. Once you have unlocked all of it, and start a game, it does not have to load once you drive off into another section.

4) How much is this game car orientated.

The best part about this game is that you can customize your car more than any other car game. You can do all the basic stuff like engine, muffler... But then you can add aero kits or body kits. Side skirts, spoilers, front & rear bumpers, side mirrors, hood, tires&rims, and more! It\'s really a little bit of tuning and racing, half/half.

5) So all you do is race, add extras to the car, race, add extras to the...

That\'s pretty much the idea. The thing here is that there are 400 cars to unlock and customize to your liking! Some cars will appear on certain "days" (the game keeps track of how many days you have been racing, for example everytime you start a game, that equals one day and another day starts again when you return to the garage and start another race). Also, to get rivals to accept your challenge, you will have to have a certain car or mod to your car in order for them to accept. I\'ve been playing for a long time, and I\'m still not done..

That\'s about it. heh... It\'s a great game... Very underrated. A sleeper hit in my book.

comments?? hell yeah--

If you wanna beat a car that have more power than yours, just go a little in front of them (and hopefully they will race you), that way you will be in the front when you race.  when the race start just look at the mirror and don\'t let them past, 99% of the time they will hit your rear with their front and both of you will lose life, but since his on the back he will lose more. You should beat him with just a little hittin\' and bumpin\'.  I beat many people with my R34.

And also dependin\' on where you race, you should adjust your gear ratio accordingly.  set them close if there\'s a lot of turns on the track your racin\' in, and set them a little apart if there\'s not so many turns (or no turns at all sometimes for that matter).

well, sorry if that\'s a little hard to understand for some of you.  I\'m in my programmin\' class so I can\'t spend too much time writin\' this.

PS serrano007 how many new areas have you unlcoked?  I\'ve only unlcoked two, don\'t really know how many more are there...

I have TXR2 for Dreamcast and it\'s incredible!  I haven\'t got a chance to rent out the PS2 version but I heard it\'s even better.  The lighting effects on the Dreamcast version were awesome, so I imagine the PS2 version must have even better lighting effects capabilities.  I would buy it, if it\'s anything like the Dreamcast version.
