Hey, I was just wondering what is the "correct" way to turn off your PS2? My first PS2 was a defective one so I sent it in with the instruction manual.. Then when they went it back, I lost my instruction manual, so I can\'t look it up..
Ok, this is what I do currently.. I first put it into stand by mode and flip the main switch in the back.
Or, can I just flip the switch without first going into stand by?

As has been discussed here a billion times, here is the correct procedure to turning off your PS2 per Sony.
- Press [square],[circle],[square] on the controller and set it down.
- You then hold down the reset button while saying "Surley you can\'t be serious."
- You then turn around three times CLOCKWISE!!!! Don\'t turn counterclockwise or the earth will become a tangled mess.
- You then push the eject button while exclaiming "I am serious and don\'t call me Shirley!!!"
- You then take your disc out and set it on your dog.
- Push the tray back in with your favorite tasty sandwhich.
- Then spin couterclockwise while shouting, "I\'m a total moron!!!"
-Turn off the switch in the back and exhale.
Or you can do what I do and just put the damn thing in stanby and walk away.
You mean there\'s a switch on the back?

My PS2 is plug in a Surge and I just turn off my surge and my PS2 have no current going in. I believe even in stand by the PS2 power source can later go out. :D
-
i put it in standby, then if im not gonna play it for a bit (when im asleep or going to work) ill turn it off by the switch
-
When I\'m moving the PS2 from one room to anther, that is when I turn it off. But for the most part, it stays on stand by.
-
Just cutting off the power isn\'t healthy. Your PS2 could last say. . . 30 years, no prob (yeah, right). But if you cut the power off, then it\'ll only last 28.6275 years. . . wait. . . when is PS3 coming out?
It don\'t matter none.

From the "on" state I hold in the power button, putting it on standby. From here I either switch it off at the back or just leave it. The latter being if I want to use the PS2 fairly soon afterwoods, maybe a few hours or whatever.
-
After I\'m finished playing a game I hit reset then take the game out.... then put it in stand-by mode.... and if I ever need to pack it up or bring it somewhere then I switch the button...
Also I\'ve been unpluging my ps2 during a storm... Cause a while back I had my VCR on during the night and in the morning I tried putting in a movie and it kept spitting it out at me... so I think lightning fried something important... and I\'m afraid it might do it to my ps2.

Most Electronic devices, when they go out, its when the power is initially turned on. But cutting ALL power to it and turning it back on regularly, you INCREASE your chances of having something go out. When you first flip the switch to turn it on, the powe surges through out the unit, (even with a surge protector) if you leave it in standby, there is a constant, steady, low and safe current going through it, and when you actually turn it on, the power does not surge... Now if you\'re going to go a long while without using it, then by all means, turn it off from the main switch.

It doesn\'t hurt it that much. (See my post four up from here.)
But. . . you still see me taking the "safe route" \'cause I\'m paranoid!
-
I do so by showing it pictures of nude men.
-
I drop a hammer on it and then I throw it out the window. That usually turns it off.
It should work for you too. My only problem is that I haven\'t been able to turn it back on. Damn you Sony and your shoddy workmanship!!!

I dance naked in fron of it while rubbing my nipples with ice cubes until fully erect, and if that doesnt work i usually just use the on/off switch. the first way seems to be more fun for me though

*shrugs in disgust* I use the standby option. You guys are sick...even though I know you\'re joking (hopefully).

It\'s like the ocean,
a gentle breeze,
a babbling brook,
a light snore,
a man at a urinal. . .
