Bloomberg:
In an interview with Bloomberg Japan, Yamauchi laid out in no uncertain terms that Nintendo and Square would never work together. "There is no contract with Square, and that matter is not open to further discussion," Yamauchi told the financial news service. "[Square] can say whatever they want, but we have no intention of signing a contract, and there\'s little chance of one being signed in the future."
Well i think the ffonline is going to ps2, pc, and maybe xbox(if square goes mulit-platform) because there seems to be too much heat between nintendo and square. I highly doubt square developing for gamecube in the future thats my opinion of course.
-
Yamuchi will be gone at launch, then we will not have to put up with him. He needs some medicence. Square must have said something to harsh to him.
-
Wonder what they were discussing durring their meetings, :D They probably acted like a bunch of 5 year old kids.
Yamauchi: "No i want Mario in your game if it comes to our system!"
Square: \'Bite me old man.\' :D

your right I bet you thats who the meeting when something like that.

Square had some bad relations with Nintendo over the FF thing. So they turned to SONY, and haven\'t turned back since. It\'ll take a lot to get those two back together.
-
Umm... this is about 6 months old... caused quite a stir back then though.
EDIT: When this was analyzed by various sites, it was interpreted Nintendo and Square won\'t work together, as in they won\'t be co-developing games like they did with Mario RPG. Just wanted to clear that up.

First mgs2 now this huh gc is falling
-
GC is falling? Hardly. Yamuchi is a tired old man who needs to rest. About the MGS2 thing, Konami has been getting very hostile to Nintendo about developing its "Mature" games for the GC. He said the same thing about Silent Hill 2 on GC. Konami needs to get hit in the head and wake up and smell the coffee. They will miss out on a lot of money if they don\'t come to the GC. Make a quick port and you\'ve gained a whole lotta cash.

as if its up to him, if i were a nintendo an, id blame Miyamoto. But...thats unfounded, i just think hes behind a lot of Nintendos big decisions

Isn\'t Miyamoto that guy from "Iron Chef?"

This will be about the only time ill agree with you dude:D
Its was Miyamoto\'s idea to go cartdrige which pretty much killed the FF series on nintendo.
Right now though I bet nintendo is REALLY happy about their current status. Lets see....nintendo is doing especially well with making HUGE amounts of money from GB and GBA. And Square is in BIG financial problems.
Nintendo\'s CEO making those comments was like rubbing into square\'s CEO face that: We are are still successful and your NOT!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! WE dont need you!!!!
MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

And so Nintendo (okay, Yamauchi) screws their faithful over again. And for some reason we should be HAPPY? Jesus H. Christ, I love Nintendo but as long as they keep putting their personal differences with Square over my (and many many other gamers\') interests, Nintendo can lick my sweaty anus. Square may be in financial woes at the moment, but they still command a gargantuan following, and that following will help them come back in the black after they make money back from their movie and they release FFX. Square\'s current lack of liquid assets is not because they are a bad, Sega-like business model. That money has funded a pair of projects that will at least make the money back, and more importantly, boost their reputation as a platinum AAA-class developer. Nintendo\'s got the perfect opportunity now to steal a buttload of Sony\'s steam if they were to snatch up Square right now, because Square is strapped for cash, making them more open to discussion. But lo, Yamauchi feels that Nintendo\'s gamers aren\'t as important to his company as is the personal hatred he has for Square. Yamauchi needs to retire (or die) like right now, and any Nintendo fan with half a brain cell would agree. Once Yamauchi\'s gone, and someone who isn\'t senile like Arakawa or Miyamoto takes over, Nintendo has a chance to reclaim it\'s former glory.

Neither Square or Nintendo need each other.
-
That\'s the problem today, too many people CARE about what the companies need. (Nothing against you personally). F-ck the companies. They don\'t give a rat\'s ass about us. I don\'t care what Square or Nintendo needs. I just want Square games on a Nintendo console. A lot of others do as well.

Exactly! I thought I was the only one who didn\'t care what the company "needed".
I honestly believe Nintendo\'s view on this is, they have their auidence (the younger auidence, for the most part) and the handheld market, so they don\'t have to make an effort to get other gamers. They have enough to make them alot of money , keep them in buisness, and thats all they really care about, which is one reason I don\'t even consider them competing with Sony and MS. It seems as though they simple ignore the fact that they need to compete in the buisness. They have always had weird buisness tactics and I\'m curious to see if these continue after Yamauchi retires. I\'m thinking they will.

I don\'t care either, but their needs are what shape their decisions. If they don\'t need each other, you wont get what you want. It\'s business, regardless what we think. You want Square on GC? Get everyone to stop buying Square games on PS2 and (possibly XB). You won\'t do that, you\'ll get their games regardless. And that\'s why they will continue on the way they are.
-
Square just wanted to do all its FMVs. So they went to the PS1 to do it all. They will come back, they will come back. ahh and that Bite Me Old Man cracks me up everytime. He sounds like an old angry man yelling.

What does it matter? As long as they are pumping out games for a console, who cares?
I wouldn\'t want to see a butchered FF translation on the GC like those of the past. Nintendo and their stubborn ways. As long as you have a PS2 or whichever console Square will stay loyal to, I don\'t see the difference. It\'s the games that matter, not where you play them on.

- the trick is to keep breathing.

Many people only have 1 console........... Thats why It matters.
-
Actually, I want GameCube to have Square games so that I have a reason other than Zelda to buy one.
In any case, if Square worked with Nintendo, Square would benefit because they\'d have a whole fresh market to sell their games to (RPG fans who only buy Nintendo consoles), and Nintendo would benefit by drawing RPG fans, the ones they\'ve been ignoring and outright crapping on, to GameCube. It\'s a win-win situation. Especially for us.

It\'s MORIMOTO, not MIYAMOTO. Do not insult an Iron Chef. This is blasphemy.
