The batteries in this thing, how long do they last normally? And when it\'s in my controller, does it still suck out battery power when I\'m playing?
And since I have never used the VMU for minigames, and I don\'t really think I will anytime soon (since I have very little space left), is it worth it just to get the non-VMU memory card?

In the manual, it read that the batteries in the VMU would last 7 days of continuous gameplay. Which translates into about 168 hours, if that is what they meant. This also means that, yes, playing games drains the batteries. My VMU batteries have lasted for ages now, it feels. I\'ve only racked up some 100 hours of gameplay on my DC, though.
And of course, if you don\'t want to waste good batteries, you could always take \'em out of the VMU. Even without them, it should still work as a memory card (at least I remember reading so from the manual).

Yeah, you only really have to have the batteries if you want the extra functions like memory manager, date/time, and minigames. I just bought two old VMU\'s at the Pawnshop. Both their batteries were dead, but when I replaced them all the old save files and games were still there.
Either way.. batteries ain\'t cheap. I ended up spending just about the same amount on those VMU\'s than if I had bought them new. (12 bucks for two sets at Radio Shack.)

I gave up on batteries in my VMU a long time ago. I never played any games and I still had to buy batteries every few months. From what I can tell it doesnt waste battery power while you are playing a game, the controller has a power source for the VMU. I think mine ran out so fast because after you turn of your DC the VMU stays on for about a minute thus wasting power. My VMUs have crap batteries in them now and they still display stuff durring gameplay and save properly.
