Okay so many people have probably read SmallLady\'s thread in Rants & Raves, but I thought I\'d just make one last thread before leaving.
So, it\'s 9.13am here in Finland. The sun is shining and the whole town seems dead. I can\'t hear a thing no matter how hard I try. No birds singing, can\'t hear any cars or people going by, nothing. Even those annoying mosquitoes seem to have taken the shortest route from here to who-knows-where.
At about 10am, I\'ll get to town and buy some little things I might need while in the army. A comb, mirror, paper, stamps, envelopes (so I can send \'Lady letters)...for 11am, I have a barber reservation, after which I\'m going to look like an idiot; I\'ll have to lose my long hair! Darnit!
Last night, I stayed up quite late while recording some music to go with me. I made copies of some of my game music CDs, because I don\'t feel safe carrying the originals around (they\'re rare, ya know). I don\'t know why I\'m telling this, I just am. My brain\'s shutting down already, and I haven\'t even reached the barracks!
I\'m not sure yet, if I should take my GBA with me. If I have no mentionable free time within the next three weeks, I\'d rather fetch it on my first (short) holiday. I\'ll probably be checking back here too, if I can. 3 weeks without gaming... *shrugs*
I\'m hoping to reach the barracks at about 1pm, so I\'ll have plenty time to get a little acquainted with the place. My service starts officially at 6pm, our time.
I\'ll miss reading these forums too. Ryu\'s great reviews, Ogodly\'s silly rants, (occasianally stupid and childish) debates on the superiority of other consoles, Sammy\'s boobs... and where will I scavenge for the latest info on interactive entertainment in the middle of nowhere? Noooo... Makes Hawke one sad Panda :(
This could slip to ending up as some sort of a farewell post, but that\'s not necessary, since I think I\'ll be back before anyone even notices anything. Now ya\'ll behave while I\'m gone, OK? Keep this place alive and well. When I\'ll be back to see this place in a few weeks be prepared to see a thread asking for a full lowdown on the recent big news :p
Finally, I\'d like to send a million kisses and hugs to SmallLady, for being the best girlfriend I could ever hope for! Love you!!!!!!!!
*takes a deep breath and walks out the door*
*comes out from the closet*
Wrong door... eh...
*leaves for real*

Good luck Hawke, if you can handle the discipline of mm and Clyde, you can handle the army. :)
-
Take Care!!!! :D

Thank you very much for the personal mention and don\'t worry my friend, I\'ll be sure to keep a nice long post full of all the reviews you missed while you\'ve been gone. Good luck and I hope to see you posting again soon.
-
Good bye my dear.
You\'re gonna miss Sam\'s boobs? Hmm, should I be jealous or not.
You\'ll make it! We\'ll miss ya!
-

BTW SmallLady, I think you should be jealous. Lots of people like my boobs. ;)

I survived the Air Force (US) so I\'m sure you\'ll do fine! Just don\'t let the games get to you;)
-
Take it easy Hawke.
What would happen if you said F-Off to the army in Finland? Would they lock you up? Damn, it is not fair,
you will miss GT3, I think that is a big enough reason to skip the army ! lol :D

:)

I think the army is for people that have no idea want they want in there life... I don\'t mean too piss anyone off.
Just my friends that have gone too the army seem to think it\'s a solution too there problems.. Maybe it is... Who knows.
Good luck dood.. Hope u find what your looking for.

Why, of all places, does FINLAND need an army? Who\'s ever going to go to war with them? I know they fought (very bravely) against Russia, but Russia\'s in no shape to fight any war.
Oh well, Hawke, keep your pecker up and sound off like you got a pair:D
-
Good bye Hawke! Good luck, take care, and I hope to see ya again soon. :)

Someone explain the finish army to me...
Here in the U.S. once you join the army your joined for life....
It works like this... You goto boot camp for 3 to 6 months, depending if you go to speacial training or something like that... Then you are in Active service for 4 to 6 years... And thats not even counting if you decide to make a permante job out of it.. But even if you get out after 4 years and the military decides they need you, you don\'t have a choice... You can be recalled to active duty at any time....
And one more thing, there are U.S. military bases all over the world, so you most likely will be spending most your time in some foriegn country where you have a good chance the localls dont like you...
I don\'t think the finish army operates like this, not at least by the way Hawke was talking...
sorry, good Luck Hawke, I hope you have fun and learn something from your experience there...:D

I\'ll explain how the Danish military works to the best of my knowledge (which isn\'t the greatest on that subject). I suspect it\'s quite a bit alike in Finland.
When you turn 18 you have to \'do time\' in the military (sorry, can\'t find the right word for it). So you have to go through some tests and stuff so they can see that you\'re fit for it. When it\'s all done and they have made sure you\'re fit for it, it\'s time to draw a number from a large \'box\' of numbers (again, I can\'t explain it better). The thing is, the army only needs a certain number of recruits each year, so if the number you draw is higher than XXXX (depends on the year etc.) then you don\'t have to enter the military - you can however, volunteer if you wish.
If you\'re unlucky (or lucky depending on your mood) you\'ll have to serve the military for 3-18 months depending on your \'position\'. You can (to a point) decide for yourself where you want to be placed (which also determines how long you have to be there). Then when the time\'s up you have finished your time in the military and won\'t have to ever come back (at least when there\'s peace ;)). Again, you can get a career in the army if you so wish.
You can even refuse to do your time, but then you\'ll have to work in a kindergarten or something for like 6 months. :)

See ya later, hope you have a good time, just dont shoot to many small animals,or something along those lines.
See ya later, make sure you come back!
p.s small lady make sure you give us some posts on how he is doing in the army ok: )

ahhh, the army... brings back not so sweet memories.
The army really sucked.
In Sweden all men have to serve unless they have some medical stuff preventing them from serving.
I was in for 10 months and it was boring as hell. The worst stuff was when you were out in the fileds for 1 to 2 weeks in a row.
Here\'s a few pics I took from the army time:

Funny pics :D :D
Have fun friend, and take care!!
-
See ya bud.
I got tears into my eyes when I heard you had to loose your hair,that\'s blasphemy to me,I\'ll sooner be shot in the head and the beat up before I\'d let a barber touch my hair.
I never even relised how nice it is to live in a country where there is no military,so I can be fat and lazy and get away with it.
Anyhoo, enough of me rambling on about nothing, the place won\'t be the same without you.
Take care :)
*goes back at looking at Sammy\'s boobs*

They aren\'t funny... well maybe a bit :p.
But only if you don\'t have to sleep in one of those tents for 9 months. No TV, no cinema, no videogames, no RPGs.... no, thanks.
Good luck, Hawke. I know how you feel now that you have to go( especially after hearing some of those strange stories from the "mili"). It\'s just like wasting one year of your life for no reason, when you have a lot of better things to do. Well, just remember what you leave at home and you\'ll be fine :).

Falgarok that shot is funny :D :D I know the army life is very hard... I don´t have to go, I´m the first generation in my country that haven´t the obligation to do the army service...! :)

as the U.S. Its seems you guys have a totally different system then we do.. I have lived on or next to a military base pretty much my whole life. And its very strict, and very reformed... No voluntary stuff here, unless you wanna do mine sweeping, which takes a very special breed of person...
Seems military life is a lot easier over there.. I think it would be kinda neat to serve for a few months or so.. Over here they own you.. And I mean they own you... Ready for war at all times.. Damn we have military personel in almost every hot spot in the world..
-
see ya later
your not the only one going into the armed forces, i currently waiting to go into the navy, been waitng since last summer to get in, ive passed all the test, just on a huge waiting list, about 9-12 months wait, but ive been almost waitng a year, could still have to wait longer :(

Many European countries have that sytem. I refused to join the army and I delivered food and did shopping for old people instead.
If you chose that over the military you have to do it 3 months longer but you can search for a "job" in your own city , so you can stay at home. And it was only about 5 hours a day.
-
No wonder the US is involved in skirmishes all over the world.. We are the only ones who stay in the army longer then summer vacation...
-
Good look Hawke m8.
See ya soon.
-
WORD
Take it easy brother-man. Keep your 9 fully loaded.

Heh, we get drafted if there\'s a major war. Our standard army has lots of reinforcements... just about any GI Joe from the ages of 16-60 who can lift 50 pounds of equipment and run faster then an old lady with a walker. If you meet those requirements and we\'re in a serious war, you can guarantee all of us will do our part whether we like it or not.
Then again... if there was ever a major war even requiring a draft, it\'s a sure bet that the war they are fighting won\'t stay a ground war for long. Pretty soon, someone will just push that little red button instead and... well, I\'m sure you can imagine what follows.
The American Army: Training your sons and daughters how to better repair the machines that fight the wars for us.
-
Thats what you get for living in socialist small european countries. The united states could kick all these armies asses... You don\'t wanna mess with the rangers. :P
-
hey see ya later hawke
hope you see we care and hae fun at the army - if you can manage but by the looks of Bjorns pics its not impossible
-
Good luck, man.
-
Have fun, Hawke! I\'ll be SmallLady\'s surrogate boyfriend while you\'re gone. I\'ll take real good care of her!
