After reading this I was amazed that Sony would do this to us. HDD + Modem + Multitap= About $200 with 200... I can buy a gamecube..... and just think.... Xbox has all of these features for only $300, the cost of ps2!

Consider it the cost for playing great advanced games a year earlier than with the other systems.

I may be speaking out of turn...but I didn\'t think that the XBOX was going to have DVD playback viability.  If it *doesn\'t* then it seems to me that your price-to-features comparison isn\'t quite accurate.  Again, not saying that I couldn\'t be wrong here...

Anyone who pre-orders this has got to be out of their mind.

Well... Yes, you could buy a cube.

Then buy the memory card, games, controllers, and other eventual add-ons. Bingo!!

My point. The cube(and box) will eventually get add-ons and the like just as the PS2 is, and then everyone will cry over them also.

Consoles have passed the era of just being "a box". they have evolved, like it or not, into something more...DVD, browsers, etc. The days of buying a console and then just getting games is OVAR!!!!! Now and for ever more the add-on is here to stay....

I had the SEGA CD & 32X and enjoyed them until the playstation was released.
It just meant that I had more items to trade in for store credit. I got the playstation for next to nothing.
I don\'t mind buying ad-ons, it\'s almost part of the fun of having a system.
(Kind of like building up a supercar)

mmmmmmmm???? Maybe that\'s why Microsoft is getting in the console world. Eventually my console will have so many add-ons it wil evolve into a PC. A $1,500 PC with the power of a $1,000.  Cool!!

Sorry but I think you r wrong.

PSXXX, you are exactly right.

The Gaming industry has surpassed even Hellywoods movie\'s as the most lucrative and profitable entertainment industry.

Couple that with the inevitable "Interactive livingroom" model that is bound to come to pass over the next generation and PC\'s as we know them are history.

Sure, the Pc will remain in some form, but the home "entertainment center" will replace a good chunk of the typical pc applications. Bill knows this, and I gaurantee you that that fact alone accounted for 80-90% of MS\'s reasoning for entering into the "console" game.

That is smart on MS\'s part. You HAVE TO evolve as a company (especially in the tech industry) or face Apple....uh...I mean extinction.:D

I agree, Bill is one smart mofo. :D
The living room is Bill\'s most important roadmap IMO.
First it was the Microsoft Windows running on every computer, on every desk. Now it\'s Microsoft hardware/OS running in each living room. :D

what do you mean? I don\'t understand what your trying to say... I mean think about it 300 for a system, then buy HDD and modem=around $150 and if you buy a multitap you pay 40 more dollars... pretty close if not more than $200.... So your paying $500 on everything.

And Xbox has all of the above features for $300.
(Am I making any sense here?)

But if one part goes, all of xbox goes.  While if one part of PS2 goes, the rest still works fine.  Also, consider it the price for playing nex-gen games one year early.

The XBOX can play DVDs, just not out of the box.  You\'ll have to buy a seprarate remote control that is slated to be $35.  Usually this would have people angry, but the XBOX will output progressive video for your DVDs (provided you have a progressive TV).

$335 for a true progressive DVD player is a steal.
