I knew it!! I knew from the day that Nintendo announced that Retro was to handle Metroid. I mean come on, wake up and smell that damn coffee; METROID AND FPS JUST DON\'T MIX!!! ARGH!!!!! :(
Anyway, to see what I\'m talking about... :( http://cube.ign.com/news/36517.html

Yea, personally I wish they would pass off the title or can it all together and stick with Ravenblade and maybe Car Combat the alleged "Twisted Metal killer..."
Although, judging by impressions of Retro, it might just be more of a good brain cell killer, but who knows...
We\'ll see what happens, but I think the hype has already passed up Metroid.

Yep, I know exactly what you are talking about. Oh well, there is still a slim chance that the game could be good.

Now there are two less reasons for older gamers to get the NGC. And the Nintendo fans at the Nintendo forums were so sure that Metroid was going to be cool. Now I am tempted to go to the Nintendo forums and start laughing at them and their blind faith, but instead, I think I\'ll play some more GT3. :)
So does this mean that those two projects are just going to be scrapped? Maybe they could make a real Metroid game - a 2D Metroid game.
-
+Why oh why couldn\'t they just have made the ultimate 2D shooter? Damn this insidious 3D!!! Some games are not meant to be 3D.....

Because they already have one of those coming out on the GBA next year. It\'s called Metroid 4, by Intelligent Systems, the ones who made the first 3 Metroids.
Anyways, this is a big blow to me especially since I love the Metroid series more than anyone here. I hope Nintendo just decides to take over this project completely. Sure they\'re busy working on Mario and Zelda but they can always pick up Metroid after their done. Even if it means it will have to be delayed until 2003...as long as it\'s good.
Also, even though this news is definitely not great, I\'m not sure how reliable those "sources" were. They could be janitors for all we know. I\'ll wait till I see the game in motion before I lose all hopes in this game. I suggest the rest of you do the same aswell.

its like calstevainia. The PSone version was awsome, i played that game so many time (I thought it sucked the first time because I killed Belmont). Now, I played the N64 version of thier first castlevania installment, and its was horrible, well, not horrible, its was the worse castlevania game I played to date. Another game thjat should be kept 2-D along with Mega Man. They did do a good job with mario, i thought it was going to be bad making mario 3-d, but it turned out good. So, metroid could be good, just gotta wait...:(

I agree with you, and oh yeah its time to play more gt 3.

I predicted this blow along time ago and some of you pretty much got upset about it. There just isn\'t much a chance a un-expirenced 2nd party developer can take a classic franchise and change it completely while making it interest. Not to mention, the way it was changed because of Nintendo. Unless, Nintendo forces Retro to rethink everything AGAIN, we are all pretty much screwed.
SpaceWorld is coming up in August and if Metriod Prime is previewed then and it doesn\'t make a huge splash I think we could see GC sales effected slightly.
Me , personally, I expected this. At least we have the GBA version to look forward to.

First of all, Nintendo has nothing to do with the 3D CastleVania that came out on the N64. Konami made it, so the blame should be placed on them.
Second, if anyone can make a great 2D to 3D conversion, then it\'s Miyamoto. The more I think about it, Mario 64 was every bit as good as Mario 3 and Super Mario World. Plus, it was his first attempt at a 3D game. Remember how much better Mario 3 compared to 1(2 doesn\'t count since it wasn\'t a true Mario game)? Now imagine how much better the next Mario game will be.
And I don\'t even need to think at all when I consider Zelda: Ocarina Of Time to be better than Zelda: LTTP(it\'s my favorite game of all time btw). It was unarguably the best 2D to 3D conversion ever. The game was better in 3D IMO. The Dugeons were better, the worlds were bigger and better, there were more possibilites, it was simply a better game in 3D.
In conclusion, if anyone can make a great 3D Metroid game, then Miyamoto can. He is the official producer of the game you know.
One more thing, I got my confidence in Metroid to be good back from reading this, the last OFFICIAL statement regarding this game by the man himself.
E3
Are any of the original Metroid developers helping Retro Studios with Metroid Prime?
We were thinking of showing Metroid Prime as a playable game here at E3 but we felt that it wasn\'t the right opportunity for us to show it. But work is progressing and things are moving along. As Producer I am overseeing it and working with the developers and so you don\'t need to worry about anything, the game is going well.
Those janitors who reported the news to IGN must of been on dope...;)

Other than making suggestions and reviewing the team\'s progress, Miyamoto has had very little to do with Metroid. Just like he was the Producer of Majora\'s Mask (I believe, I know he had very little to do with it), but he wasn\'t the director. And whoever said it was Nintendo\'s fault for making the game a fps, that is true but only because of how miserable the original attempt was. I doubt we\'ll ever see this game come out. Nintendo won\'t release it if it\'s this bad. Remember Starfox2?

This is a real dang shame. I think they should focus all their attention on Raven Blade, and, well.....make Metroid a second priority.

Um... he was the one who made Retro change it into a FPS. Obviously he has a major role in this project.

Yeah he showed up there for a day, saw that it was utter crap and made them change it. He isn\'t designing characters, or levels, he\'s not tweaking the controls. He\'s evaluating which is much than what he usually does.
