Title: dvd region x
Post by: kopking on July 15, 2001, 06:04:11 AM
ok i have bought one £15 and it works fine, i cant remember who said it but you havent got to change your codes on the ps2, all you do is put the memory card part in, then put the cd in, it will come up a screen that asks you what region the dvd is. you choose one, the drawer opens, simply replace the cd with the dvd, and shut the door, and the film boots up :D

i havent tried through a scart yet, but will asap as i got to get a new one, as i cant find my old one.

any questions ill awnser them as fas as possible

Yup works like a dream, but you will have to enter the rgb codes when you use the scart lead, unless you like watching films in glorious green o vision :D .

Kopking, you try playing a dvd movie with a "proper" fully loaded scart lead, not that crap that sony gave you with the machine. And you will get a green screen . Follow the link and it shows you how to input the codes.
Once the codes have been input you dont have to do them again as they are stored on the "dongle".

That code thing was found out afterwoods I think. DVD Region X was only ever ment to be a Region 1 DVD player. However I think they reliesed you need full scart for colour on NTSC products and that full scart ment greenscreen playback. I presume the codes were found to work afterwoods as DVD Region X must use some sort of debugging system.

Nah I dont buy that Rich, why spend time and money developing a product that lets the end user play import dvds........but only in black and white, or glorious green o vision. Doesnt make sense. Dont think it was an afterthought, and if it was then they are one thick bunch, but I doubt it.

Kopking Sony offical scarts aren\'t what they seem. Im not sure if this is what you bought.

Anyway check the end connector of the scart...

a) all pins there, full RGB scart, should play in green-o-vision as standard.

b) some pins missing. Composite signal passed through scart, ala lead and connector which comes with PS2.

your completley right, it says scart lead on the box, but doesnt have all the pins, those damn blokes at eb, ill have to take it back tomorrow. they told me it was a full scart lead :(

Yeah shop staff **** me off, they rarely know what they are talking about. No offense to any of you shop staff out there. ;)

They just tell you what you want to hear. Yeah it seems all the scart cables in gaming shops aren\'t full RGB. Best bet is to get a scart cable aimed for the PS1.

ok, i have a scart for a while now, and just so everyone know, you havent got top put some code in to get rid of the green o vision, you simply do the same as if you was watchiung a different region, meaning if you wanna watc a region 2(the norm where i come from) you got to put the dvd region x in, pick region 2, put the dvd film in and your on your way to watching the film no green o vision included

You know how you have to have the region x disc in the ps2. Is that just for the first time or for everytime?
Title: dvd region x
Post by: spanky on July 27, 2001, 05:39:41 AM
Everytime you wanna watch a different region dvd yea you have to load up the region x disk, or if you want to get rid of the green o vision. Hmmmmmmm Kopking I have a full scart lead for the PS1 and when I try to use that on my PS2 it gives green o vision, until that is I load the region x up. Not calling you a liar m8 just wondering what scart lead your using. Mine was the official Sony one for 35 squids. It plays games in full scart but not the movies.

everytime. its a pain in the a$$,but atleast i can get imports and watch through a scart.

spanky
if you read all of my post u would know that, i went in eb, asked for a scart, then put it in ....no green-o-vision. then i checked it wasnt a full scart lead, only 12 pins or something. i took it back got a scart, put dvd region x in play the dvd, with out putting in any codes, and get a perfect pic :D

I did indeed read ALL of your post. And if you read mine you would have seen I was asking what type of lead you had bought, because what your saying doesnt make sense at all. I have a FULL scart lead, it gives me green o vision when trying to play a dvd movie, until I input the region x codes. So do tell, what type of lead is it that you have and where from, as this may be of some help to readers of this forum who dont wish to purchase the region x.

i cant remember what scart it was, as ive thrown out the box, it is a full scart cos if i try to play a dvd normally i get green o vision. have you tried to play a dvd using the dvd region x without the codes, as in you got a region 1 dvd, put the dvd region x in, choose region 1, then put the dvd in, cos thats how i do it, and i get no green-o-vision

i think I\'m really lost here! this is what i understood from this thread:

the US PS2 can play region 1 normally, but other regions it will play in green format. if you want to get rid of the green format you have to boot with a region-X disc and you also need a scart cable.

the scart cable from sony is missing some pins and will not let you get rid of green screen. best to buy a PSX scart cable.

hmm.. hope i got that right..
and another question, where do you get the region-X disc?
and what hapens if you use a region-X disc without a scart cable?

Thanx!

ok i ll tell you im in europe, so i can only usually watch a region 2 dvd, when you play any dvd normally, you get a green picture. please note that the cable you get with a ps2 is not a full scart lead, it only has 12 pins instead of 24. with the dvd region x i can watch every region, so that means i gat import films. plus the picture is not green when you use a full scart lead......ok......if you need to know more, write it up here and ill try to help

edit

all dvd play green with a full scart, if you use a dvd region x without a full scart the pic will be normal, any region. i got mine from a computer store, not a big one like eb, but a small one. u can also can get 1 of the internet but i dont know the site

Whoa!  Your EB\'s are big?  In Gerogia they are 20x40 tiny little stores shoved in malls.  EB is what I consider a "small computer store, that just happens to sell some console games too."

well ebs not really big here, but i meant as in store owned by a person, that there is only one of, not a chain of stores

OK, I just got the Region X, and it works great!

I have a PAL PS2, and run it though a properly loaded SCART cable.

Usually when I try a movie, I get green screen, but using the Region X, gives me full colour vision, which has made me most happy. :)

I know everyone knows what the Region X does, but some people have had to use special codes, but I certainly didn\'t have to.

Now I can go for all those unrated US horroe movies!

:D
