I don\'t have nothing to so I guess I would bring up this topic up again.
What do you guys think? I mean you will be able to surf the net chat email and Instant message on your playstion. You will dial up to your ISP off of your playstation. I mean isn\'t that what computers are for? I mean back when Fgn talk to that sony guy and he stated that ps3 will be used for banking online shoping and all that other crap.
Old fgn news story http://www.fgnonline.com/playstation2/news/17141.html
I mean I want my gaming to stay like it is. I don\'t want my playstion to have a fax/modem/printer hooked up to it. I don\'t want to hook my playstion up and and do my banking online. I want to sit my console next to my tv and play my games. I can see gaming going really bad. What are they trying to do replace computers? I mean you can\'t do that with a console. Why don\'t they just let all that die.

SONY\'s argument was that they wanted their system to be the center of each families entertainment center.
Some may say that this gives you a lot of poorly made electronics pumped into one black box. But, being a college student, I can appreciate the $300 (+) price tag for everything it does.

Yes Falcon4, I have beat you in the "race" for 1000 posts. Better luck next time. In honor of my 1000th post, I have changed my sig. Props to anyone who can guess who I quoted.
Note: I, unlike many before me, tacked on my 1000th post celebration to a meaningful post and did not make an entire new thread. You\'re welcome.

Well seeing how ps2 will have a lcd screen, keyboard and mouse. Your saying you obviously would want to buy a 1000 ps2 package. PS2 games system with 6 months free of aol, keyboard and mouse, hdd, printer/fax machine, lcd screen. I mean I don\'t want all that crap and I don\'t see the point. We have pc\'s for a reason. I don\'t want all that crap on my console I hope sony changes there mind and dessides to crap those Ideas but it seem like they are going all out to make sure that playstion some sort of super console.

I\'m not getting the screen, no need for it, in two weeks I\'ll have a TV thank you very much. I already have a keyboard and mouse (USB), I get free cable access in the dorm rooms, don\'t need a printer.
I will be getting the HDD and ethernet combo. though. So $450 max for the system, not bad for a DVD, next gen. games, CD player, and internet accessable.

See that\'s the beauty of it though. The PS2, at it\'s heart, is a videogame console. Nothing else. However IF you WANT to expand it into something much more than that.. the option is always there. Greatest freedom of choice for the consumer, that\'s what Phil Harrison was talking about. I just hope you don\'t HAVE to buy offically Sony sanctioned items... and that you can create your own setup how YOU want to.

that\'s pretty cool though. I just hope that i can use my cable isp with my ps2

This argument is old and stupid. It is a game console, the HDD, network adaptor, LCD screen, and all that stuff are optional. You don\'t have to use them. So if all you want is to play games, then don\'t buy them. Its that simple.

Well IN MY post if you read it. I said this topic was old and I have nothing else to do so I brought it back up.

Ok fine, I\'m not dissing you. I only read like 2 of the replies anyway. But you\'ve gotta know this will turn into a flaming thread once the fanboys show up.

Since the PS2 will be using the god awful AOL as its ISP, expect MAJOR crashes, extreme lagging on 56k modems, and a lot of advertisments to get AOL 6.0 for the PC. I have AOL and I have to put up with it. All 6.0 added were smilies in IMs, and a little search bar at the top. And they say that they are tripling capacity every year? BS, BS all of it and now they charge an extra 25 dollars a year right after they signed the playstation deal. Sony should have made its own ISP to do it. This was a terrible move. PS2 will not be good for online gaming. But then again I have not seen it running so this is all based off their cheap ISP sevice.

There was an add on to the original Famicom in Japan that allowed you to do your banking from home, so that\'s nothing new. Just wanted to share some worthless knowledge that I have.

I truly hope that the AOL/Sony collaboration does produce an outstanding online gaming medium. I too, am an AOL 6 user I know the pains of AOL usage. I haven\'t purchased a PS2 yet because ,like Trog, I am also a College Student. $300 is well almost a semester\'s worth of books (depending on your major). The PS2 should and does keep videogaming first, Not DVD playing, or web surfing. DVD -options are just selling points for really casual gamers who will only look to buy a new console by the TV ads.

I took one less class than I was supposed to and used my federal loan money to buy a PS2!

The government bought my PS2 for me! (Although I have to pay them back in 2011.)
