I\'m guessing it will be a progressive player since all of GC\'s games will be too. Here\'s the article:
DVD GameCube Release, Price
Matsu****a announces the price and release date for its DVD-player version of GameCube.
July 19, 2001
Major Japanese publication the Nihon Keizai Shinbun reported today that Matsu****a has announced the official price point and release date for its upcoming "Fusion" DVD-player / GameCube hybrid.
The system, which allows gamers to play DVD-movies and GameCube game software, will retail for approximately 40,000 yen, or just under $325 US dollars. Matsu****a sources said that the company had originally planned to price the machine higher, but decided to drop the price in order to compete with sales of PlayStation 2, which retails currently for 35,000 yen, or $285 US dollars.
Matsu****a will release the DVD-player / GameCube hybrid in Japan in "early November," reported the Japanese news source. Previously it was thought that the player would ship in September to coincide with the release of the base Nintendo GameCube hardware, but Matsu****a insiders told the publication that the company needs more time to finalize production of its version.
A US release date for the device has been set for sometime between March 2002 and March 2003. No pricing specifics have been announced regarding the machine\'s North American release.
More in the coming weeks.

This topic is too much!

Yea it does look like a toaster! haha!! I\'m betting Nintendo will change it\'s appearance before they release it overseas.

Um, how would you fit a DVD in there, when it\'s designed solely for mini-DVD\'s?

Your weak if you ask me.
Nintendo obviously designed GameCube to be a gaming only machine. By not inclusing the DVD feature it lowers the price significantly, pratically eliminates chances of piracy, and makes it so people will only buy games and not DVDs. Not using DVDs as a storage medium was a good business move by Nintendo.

Don\'t be so harsh, Jumpman. Stay chill.
Anyway...a lot of people already have DVD players, so they wouldn\'t need it. I still think it looks like a design disaster. I hope they change the design a little before they ship it. I wonder if I could put some Pop-Tarts in there? *Nevermind*

PS2Gamer, almost everyone from any forum knows that the NGC won\'t play DVDs. Thats the weak part jumpman I think was commenting on. I say the DVD combo looks like something from a diner in the 50\'s:D

Matsush!ta owns Panasonic.

- the trick is to keep breathing.

Will it do my taxes?
But serously. I don\'t know if this is better or worse than the PS2 already having a DVD. There are valid points for doing it this way (piracy/cost). I guess it just bothers me that there are variations of a console. The only other system to have done this is SEGA, and we all know where it got them!

Can it toast Bagels and English Muffins?

LOL! The forum censored Matsush!ta!
No it doesn\'t. Matsushita.

Well I hate the current gcn design and I hate this dvd version even worst. I think they should just give it up. I mean most japan gamers already have a dvd player in ps2. And ppl who are buying gc are not buying it for the dvd player.
They should be making KIller Instinct instead of this dvd garabe:mad:

Considering its discs use DVD-ROM technology, the extra cost of allowing it to play DVD-Video would be close to if not zero.

The first gamecube looked geeky enough..... now another!?....
