This post and replies will probably have some spoliers, so watch out!
Mine would have to be: (they don\'t have to be surprise endings, just good ones)
Shawshank Redemption - it about makes me cry, evry time I watch it in the last 5 seconds. The last 10 minutes are some of my favorites from ANY movie.
Citizen Kane - finding out what Rosebud meant, nuff said.
Unbreakable - Wow, finding out that Samuel L. Jackson ws the one that caused all the disasters! crazy!
Se7en - Man, the last 10 minutes are INTENSE of this movie! "John Doe has the upperhand"
12 Monkeys - great ending, ties up all loose ends and makes you go \'"huh?!" for the next hour.
O, Brother Where Art Thou? - hilarious movie, great acting by Clooney, even though I usually can\'t stand him!
Fargo - Another Coen Brothers film, dark whule funny, really shows human greed, last 10 minutes solves everything.
Rope - ever seen a Hitch**** ending? nuff said.
North by Northwest - ditto.
Fight Club - anyone who has seen this knows this is another one of those "huh?" movies!
Movies you never have seen, but probably should with great endings:
Hard 8 (P.T. Anderson early film)
Memento (find it, watch it, thank me)
Requiem for a Dream (ditto)
Tomb Raider (When those credits were rolling, I was so happy and relieved!)

I would say you can add "The 6th sense" to that list
I really enjoyed that one

snicker, even though I have not seen Tomb Raider,

Ok, Unbreakable = Retarded, period. His weakness was water. His body is composed of 80% of his weakness. Jackson was a degenerated and reversed Professor X. When he fell down the stairs I was praying "please don\'t put him a wheelchair, please don\'t put him a wheelchair, please don\'t put him a wheelchair" but they did. I actually yealled out "WTF" in the theater, and I got a couple "yeah\'s" thrown back. The movie was in no way original. I predicted each and every scene to the smallest details before they even happened. The movie was pure, 100%, crap on a stick. I rarely hate movies, I am always somewhat-satisfyed when I leave a theater. This was the one and only movie I absolutely hate.
Fight Club = worst. . . ending. . . ever. They could have done so much more. It wasn\'t a "huh" ending, it was a "wtf did they do that for? That bites, ruined the entire movie." I love Fight Club, but I absolutely hate the ending.
I\'m just so angry about Unbreakable, that I can\'t even think about "the best ending." I\'ll get back to you on that.
UPDATE: Because I\'m still having trouble thinking, I\'m going to say the ending to "GO." It ended great, with the "So what are we doing for New Years," like the crap they went through is an everyday thing. I guess I just relate to that movie. And that\'s what makes a movie great, the personal connections you have towards the characters.

Welcome to the spoiler thread.
I liked the endings of (off the top of my head) The Usual Suspects, Fight Club and Primal Fear.

I forgot about "The Usual suspects." That was so awesome! I wasn\'t thinking much about the movie so when that ending came up it was such a surprise!
I guess I\'ll add "Run-Lola-Run" to my list, for the same reasons I listed for "Go."
-
Yeah, Usual Suspects was a GREAT ending!
and I feel the same way about Sixth Sense. I guessed that ending by watching the previews. I go, "come on!" but I loved Unbreakable because I didn\'t want to, nor try to figure out the endings, or get mad at obvious comparisons to Professor X, which is bad I guess, when you FIND OUT at the end that he is the bad guy.
I liked it, but I am a comic freak and I always think of myself in a supernatural form as in "what if I had super strength?"
BUT, I hated the kid in there, that kid is ugly and bugs me.
I didn\'t like Go because that is a horrible Hollywood rendition of what a Rave is. I liked the Double Dragon guy\'s story though, that was the only one I liked. The way they tied it up into all the stories was good, but the end was crappy, they ended it after they were done with the stories with Katie Holmes talking, IMO, and not way after that.

Sorry to linger on this "Unbreakable" thing, but it was ssssooooooo obvious that he was the bad guy about half-way through. The hints were so obvious. I must have been "accidentally" set in "super-human smart mode" or something \'cause I saw right through the movie. No surprise ending, nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Gawd, I hate it when I\'m stuck in "super-human smart mode." Otherwise I might have enjoyed the movie.
-
Fight Club - The ending had its flaws but for the most part I liked it.
Se7en - A movie where no one wins, \'cept the bad guy really.
Snatch - Everything ties together so perfectly.
Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Another Guy Ritchie film (See: Snatch). Once again, everything ties together perfectly, \'cept at the end it has no real end. You are left wondering if the character answers his cell phone / drops the rare guns in the water . Or if he picks the guns up and drops the cell phone. I done a poor job of explainin\' this, so you should just go find this movie. Excellent film.
One Flew over the Cukcoo\'s nest. - I just cannot believe none of you mentioned this classic. It has maybe one of the most touching endings.
Shawshank Redemption - One word : Amazing
Primal Fear - Awesome surprise ending.
Taxi Driver - It doesn\'t surprise you. But at the same time, in a strange way you are happy for Robert Deniro\'s character, even though he just killed a couple of people.
Dancer in the Dark - Another one I can\'t believe no one mentioned. A musical starrin\' Bjork. The ending is sad, peaceful and all around touching and disturbing.
 @ Altered\'s Tomb Raider remark. I have to agree man..

MAN.....TELL ME ABOUT IT!

I thought the Wild Things ending was pretty cool.. I like how it all got explained at the end... The things that they did behind everyone\'s back. That was sweet.
The WORST ending for me has to be Blair Witch 2... lmao... I\'m sitting there waiting for more, then all of a sudden the credits start to roll! LOL... It ends right outta nowhere... Oh well... :D
-
For me it was THE MATRIX! i love it when he stops the bullets, and then beats the **** out of that guy,god i love that movie! When is matrix 2 out?
Also a film called arlington road, that was one very good movie, has anyone else seen it?
-
Wasn\'t Arlington Road the one about the terrorist neighbor? Not too sure.. I forgot.
-
Yeah that is the movie, where they are palnning to bomb a building, that was a very good movie IMO.
-
Hmm, from what I can remember, it was an OK movie. Kinda creepy.. My normal looking neighbor could be Saddam Hussein\'s spy in the U.S.
-
Best Ending:
Crying Freeman
Don\'t know why, but i like the ending.
also great Ending:
Die Hard
I like this song and the whole szene...
Worst Ending:
End of Evangelion
Too cruel and brutal. It also doesn\'t really fit to the series.

Kinda Spoiler.
Arlington Road was good. It was one of those movies you we 100% sure that the movie would end with a near-miss and triumph over evil, but. . . Did I say spoiler? Yes, okay, just checking.
-
Bladerunner- you have to see it, the fact hes a replicant, and makes u wonder about ur memories, are they really yours?????
Fightclub- the ending is excellent, once u know the twist, watch it again, it makes the film even better
pappiolon (spelt wrong)- its just so cool that he trys buying hs way off(boats etc) and all he had to do is tie up some coconuts and float away on them
usual suspects- as said by others
final destination- that ending is so cool.....so whos next????....lol , u!!!!
i didnt like the ending of the matrix, i did how he died and came back, but the fact he flew up the screen ruined it for me, it was so cheesey
-
Braveheart?
-
SPOILERS GALORE
Not in any particular order... I have a feeling I may have to update this some time.
The Matrix - I have seen this movie tens of times! And though I sometimes get a teensy bit bored of it I\'m never bored enough with the ending. Revenge is sweet. I like the enigmatic bit in the very end.
6th sense - it was absolutely great when all the pieces just clicked together. My heart was racing! It left me feeling strangely happy.
Crouching tiger hidden dragon - I cried so hard. When she jumped off the bridge...... so beautiful. Sad yet hopeful at the same time.
A chinese movie starring Zhang Ziyi (?) yet again.. Can\'t remember the name, Road to Home or something like that - It was very simple, but I cried my eyes out.... The love story.. the amazing music.. It was just so perfect.
-
The Matrix- When neo sees that he is "the one"
Star Wars Ep1- The Darth maul fight was fookin\' awsome
-
Add this to the list.
American Physco. Awesome movie and awesome ending.
-
Whats so great about the ending to The Matrix? Like anyone couldn\'t figure out that Keanu Reeves is the hero. He IS the lead actor, after all. Did anyone really believe he would\'ve remained dead?
-
**** i forgot about American Physco, that film made me laugh sooo much, but the end really did make me go Errrrr, was it it all just a dream?i didnt get to pay attention to the ending very much, because i had my girlfriend laying next to me in my bed,and....well you get the picture:D :bounce:
-
I hear MAtrix 2 and 3 are coming out at the same time.....any truth to it?

While the Matrix was out, some important group of people stated that they wanted to make it a trilogy, and the other two movies should be produced that the same time. That doesn\'t mean that they\'d come out on the exact same day.
In any event it has been a while since they first stated that. I\'m sure that their plans have changed a multitude of times since then.

OK, if you haven\'t seen The Game starring Michael Douglas then you have yet to see one of the freakiest endings of all time. You\'ll either say What the hell or DAMN! Oh yea and the rest of the movie is pretty cool too. :) It was directed by David Fincher, the same guy who did Fight Club & Se7en. He seems to has a knack for crazy endings.
There\'s also the 13th floor which is frikkin weird too. Has a mind blowing twist on the plot and an eerie feel throughout the whole movie. Rent these two this weekend if you gots the time...
btw- I\'ve also heard that Arlington Road has a cool ending.
-
lets see my list may not be great but its my list :p
well lets see:
Shawshank Redemption - the whole movie was brillant and its one you can watch over and over - especially since its always on TV
Braveheart - i love surprise and it was a great surprise about his death and how they fought on
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - loved how she jumped off and after asking him what he wished - made me think it would be able to come true
Legend of Druken Master - Comdey and fast paced action scene that was so awesome
Theres Something about Mary - love and comedy put together beautifully here
Akira - after watching it again - it made me say yeap that was awesome
Ninja Scroll - ok another Anime but another great one with a great ending of Nobunaga defeating all against all odds - and w/o having sex too
Matrix - i love an ending that makes me go - hey that could be true and stuff like that - Far Fetched but not out of reach
Fight Club - another cool surprise - i hate it when you can predict the ending by watching the previews no a days
well there ya go i got a little of everything
-
But in same time? same day? impossible I think. Perhaps with some months of difference.
-
Not sure if anyone mentioned the Original Planet of the Apes.
I think it\'s one of the greatest movie endings of all time!
Ace
-
Spaceballs:
Who would\'ve thought that the huge ship could become MegaMaid?
-
Oh no, they\'ve turned her from Suck to Blow!
Eric Jacob
-
SUCK!
SUCK!

This ship will self-destruct in 10...9...8...7..5...

Michael Douglas makes me feel sick !
-
A Clockwork Orange - the ending was brilliant. Good doesn\'t always win, and sometimes the worse solution is the better and more humane.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - the warehouse from hell. :)
Snatch - I have to agree with L-I-C. One of the best endings ever -makes you laugh and at the same time puts every piece to their places.
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - I love movies wich don\'t really end, and you can imagine what\'s going to happen yourself. They\'re called \'open ends\', and this is a great one here.
Blade Runner Director\'s Cut - it really makes you think. Are we human after all?
-
Snatch - The way everything ties together is excellent
Requiem for a Dream - One of those endings that make you go, "Damn". That is so phucked up.
Bill and Ted\'s Bogus Journey - Makes us all feel warm and tingly inside imagining a future of world peace brought forth by the music of Wyld Stallion *pulls out guitar and does a little riff*
Pay it Forward - I\'m surprised no one mentioned this. It was very emotional. A lot of people in the theater were crying and even I the great Gohan was feeling sad.
Back to the Future - When you are a kid anything with flying cars is great.
Transformers The Movie - The only movie I ever cried at. Albeit at the tender age of 7-ish. WHY OPTIMUS!?!? WHY DID YOU LEAVE US!?!?
-
Tell ya the truth, Gohan, I hated Pay It Forward. You don\'t put a bad ending in movie and make Eric happy.
I just can\'t take negative endings, everything must be perfectly fine! I liked the movie up until that point.
WHich is why I hated Operation Swordfish so much, it was just pointless.

I hated the ending too, but that made me like the movie any more. It\'s good every now and then to have the bad guy win. It keeps us on our toes. Otherwise, 100% of the time we know how the movie will end. At least now there can always be the uncertainty of the power bad sometimes has over good.
This also applies to Arlington Road.
-
I loved the ending to Arlington Road, just great.
But I think Tim Robbins is one of the most underrated actors right now.

Um...no. The Matrix 2 (called The Matrix: Reloaded), is coming out Christmas 2002. The third one is coming out in the summer of 2003.
-
SPOILERS
Braveheart: It was a really sad ending how he died, and it was cool how "The Bruce" led an attack on the english in the end.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: This was sad...i liked that girl!!! :( An AWESOME ending!
Gladiator: I liked this ending! how he killed the emperor and then reunited with his family!
-
I forgot to mention one amazing end - wich left me as shocked as Sixth Sense ( and it made the whole movie look different ):
Jacob\'s Ladder
I won\'t go and spoil the ending, but it\'s great.
