Well, is there a game that you became emotionally involved with?
I have never really cryed because of a videogame, but I felt sad in Resident Evil when that fella died (don\'t know his name).
What about you?

Nearly. In FF7 when Aeirs died. And again in FF8 when Rinoa was floating in space.
But I\'ve never actually cried, but I could feel tears building up.
(I\'m going to go hide in shame now)

I\'m not a sensitive person who\'d easily cry when watching movies or playing video-games, but many emotionally shocking experiences have comed trough video-games.
I have to mention the death of Aeris as well - it was, for me, very surprising and shocking. And perhaps the scene where you can re-encounter Aeris, as a memory/spirit ( whatever ), on the church where Cloud and she first met.
I can\'t tell quickly what scene would\'ve been emotionally as effecting as that.

I also felt sad when I didnt win the 2 hour endurance race in ROME in GT3...

The FF9 ending made me teary eyed. I could really empathize with the story.:)

No sadder moment in the entire history of gaming than the death of Aeris.
How often does a major, player-controlled character actually die in the middle of the game?

I\'ve never cried but I was somewhat upset when Alucard went back to his grave to never been seen again in CastleVania:SOTN. I mean, after you spend all the time completing the game , it was somewhat upseting.

The death of Aeries in FF7.
The deaths of Sniper Wolf and Meryll in MGS.
I didn\'t so much cry in the Wolf scene as I did label it as one of the most kick-ass death scenes that I had ever seen.

Well, recently when I finished Onimusha. Samanosuke
kind of dies at the end. That was sad. After all the effort
I made to keep the dude alive.
Also some of MGS\'s cutscenes are so strong in a cinematic
way they have an emotional heaviness to it . Like the part
AFTER wolf dies and Snake walks away.
I see that nobody has been or loaths to admit to have been :crying:

I didn\'t cry at the death of Aeris, cause I already knew about it and knew it would happen at some point. But I was sad.
I don\'t think a game has made me cry out of sorrow, but I definitely have shead some tears of happiness, like at some really beautiful moments in FF7 or 8.

Oh yeah, I also cried when I bought Dark Forces, and it wouldn\'t run on my 486! ARrrrrrghhhh!

I completely agree, tough guys never cry. Tough guys have no emotions whatsoever. Emotions are for gays. Must be real nice to be tough.

True, it is just a game. However a good game (based around story) should get you emotionally involved. That isn\'t anything to be ashamed of, it just means the games developer has done their job and that you will have a better time playing the game.

Basically, no game has ever been good enough to actually make me emotionally interested in the game characters. It\'s not that I\'m insensitive, just that I\'m critical and it\'s hard for me to take a game seriously enough to care about the fate of a character. I\'ve cried while watching a few movies, but from my perspective NONE of the games released so far can match cinema for drama and emotional intensity. They just haven\'t met that standard yet.

Was that sarcasm? If being tough = being an emotionless robot, then no thanks. A \'real\' guy wouldn\'t be afraid to show emotions. If you\'re too worried wondering what the person next to you thinks, then you have problems. (not directed @ you \'Lady, just happened to pick your statement)

I cried while playing Madden when I lost to the Jets. It was a very emotional moment.
I got kicked in the love pellets by my brother, at the same time; but I don\'t think that had an effect on the situation.
I also cried while playing ET because I couldn\'t get out of the damn pit. All of my neck stretching and jumping did nothing. :( I think that game scarred me for life. You younger bucks won\'t understand but I hate E.T. to this day becuase of that gaming moment.

Well, um...that ending movie in Final Fantasy 8, and also, I think Metal Gear Solid gave me many emotions.

I cry at movies, I have stated that in many film threads in off-topic.
Movies are more tangible than games with 2D or Polygonal characters. You people have way too much time on your hands to sit around crying at a game.

People cry from books too. It\'s not a tangable human that people get attached to, heck people get attached to dogs and fish. I think it\'s great that games are written well enough that players can feel some sort of connection to the characters they control. How boring games would be if we didn\'t feel connected in any way.

What Trog said. What difference does it make to become emotional over a game or a movie? A movie might be more \'real\' but in the end, they\'re both fictional. If a game can make me emotional, then more power to it.

Movies do that to me because they are realistic portrayals, or reenactments of real life. I should know, I AM me.
Games, especially fantasy ones would never make me cry, just because the characters do not seem realistic. A book could if it is deeply emotional (read: Where the Red Fern Grows). But I don\'t think a Star Wars book, etc. could.

I\'m sure you haven\'t gotten attached to every movie either. Plus, some people get really involved with their games, adding to the experience. You probably get more attached to games that don\'t provoke much emotion other than excitement, or fear. That\'s all. Diff. strokes for diff. folks.

excitement? yes, because I am playing, and most likely winning (if a 2D fighter or other 2 player game!)
fear? Heck no, I\'m not 10 anymore. I have seen way too much sick stuff in my life to be scared anymore, especially over some polygons and sound effects. (read: scary game = Killing Time when I was 10, last, and probably only, game to do it to me)

well i was tough when i was younger ! i was never emotionnal ! but see what girls do to ya ! :) now i have tears build up in FF7 , FF8 and FF9 ! damn why Aeris why ? and Rinoa so cute ....

fairly mature. to add : If cartoon movies
like Disney\'s or Dreamworks\' can make
ppl emotional then games can too.
I sometimes get emotional if I see some
big breakthrough 3D graphics, because
I know what kind of effort it took. In comparison
to an Art like painting 3D is very new, thus making
\'today\' and the near future very exciting times for
me.
When I first saw Terminator 2 when it was launched
I got emotional at the scene where the T1000 walks
out of the burning truck wreckage in the beginning.
It was just so damn beautiful.

I think that if people don\'t get emotional with a movie, such as Tom Hanks \'The Green Mile\', then I think your heart is made of stone.
It is irrelivant as to if you are male or female.
I mean, I am the jock of the school, and I cried in Sound Of Music.

What\'s wrong with me ? I still find the T1000 the
best liquid morphing 3D animation up til today !
Making things in 3D graphics that become more
realistic looking every decade is one of mankinds
efforts. It\'s kinda like saying : " look God, we Humans
can \'Create\' realistic things just like U now ."
And look at me now... busy with Maya.
The point is , it\'s all about my personal goals in life which include
making something great like the T1000. Thinking about
reaching that craftmanship someday makes me emotional.

I felt sad when I wiped my Gran Turismo Mode data off of my ONLY memory card...
Don\'t you just love Polyphony not including cheats to this game...
