Title: Platformer of the year?
Post by: Halberto on August 01, 2001, 11:40:04 AM
I would vote for Luigi\'s Mansion but it looks too repitive IMO.

Jax and Daxter for me. :)

Luigi\'s Mansion is NOT a platformer. There is no jumping. It\'s more of an action title from what we currently know.

I voted for other, more specifically, Super Mario Advance 2. Aka- Super Mario World, coming out sometime this fall.

2D platforming at it\'s finest. :) Only Super Mario Bros 3 is a better platformer than this game.

lol, jumpman
that game was on the list for platformer of the year in 91\'..

I guess you just can\'t stand the fact that right now Sony has the best platfomer of the year.. But, spaceworld could change that.

I would say Sonic Adventure 2 cause onone has any idea about the others cause they arent out yet.
So there should only really votes for Other or Sonic

I voted for Sonic Adventure 2, because I looooove that game. But Nintendo will undoubtedly come out with the best platformer...

LOL, insulting my opinion?

Sony has the best platformer of year right now with what? Kloana 2? Last time I checked J&D wasn\'t out yet, therefore I and you can\'t comment on it yet.

Besides, I haven\'t played Mario world in about 5 years.

My vote, other. That other being Klonoa 2.

Perhaps J&D will take its place, but it\'s uncertain. What I do know, is that I\'m having a blast with Klonoa.

I, Troglodyte, "anti-DC," have voted for Sonic Adventure 2.  Take pictures, record in your diaries, this will be the one and only time I vote for anything DC-related.

I have a feeling that J&D will be the platformer of the Year...while the Next Mario will be the best in 2002 :D

Well seeing as how most of those games have not been released, I vote for Sonic Adventure 2. One of my favorite games at the moment.

Now back to the Dark Chao Garden. MUAHAHAHAHAHA

Luigi isn\'t a platformer.
I don\'t think Shrek is either.

Maybe Herdy Gerdy should be listed?
It is part platformer (collect the bells and all that) and part strategy (herd).

I voted for J&D as is.

Whats the point in voting for games we haven\'t played? As for games we have played - I would vote Klonoa 2 as the best platformer this year. But then again, the year isn\'t over and most these games haven\'t game out.

Re-poll when they\'re all out.

I voted for Sonic Adventure 2.  The game is so perfect!  Take a little romp through Green Forest and you\'ll understand!  It really looked like they learned from their mistakes in Sonic Adventure.  Don\'t get me wrong, the game was brilliant, but is felt very slow moving as far as story goes.  You actually had to find the next level and that was very frustrating at some times.

Sonic 2 moved along very quickly (beautifully too), also had two different paths.  Hero or Dark, then the Chao were a little more engaging also.

Okay, as you can tell I like that game alot.

Now for runner up-

Being that I haven\'t played any of the others, this is based on previews alone.  Jak and Dexter.

This game looks to have it all, gorgeous environments, interaction, huge world, great story, characters with their own personality.  Looks to be a jewel of 2001!

SA2 a platformer?  <-- joke, relax.

Heh, I don\'t want to open up a can of worms, but after playing the demo of SA2 I was sooo hyped and anxious for the arrival.. little did I know that I would be let down. To me SA1 was much better in every way. (\'cept graphically) .. SA2 should\'ve been Tails and Knuckles repetitive Adventure. I did enjoy the last level though, that was fun.

IMO -- Sonic Team didn\'t put much effort in SA2 -- sue me.

I know Beasty and LiC might disagree with me, but I enjoyed SA1 much more. I was in awe every second that I played...

Actually, I don\'t disagree with you as much as you would expect. ;)

Sonic Adventure 2 was a great game in my opinion, but I did find serious flaws in it. The first and foremost being the camera angles. Some of the camera angles was just horrible and I don\'t remember the first Sonic Adventure having near as many problems with the camera. The second problem is, the levels that did not have Sonic or Shadow just wasn\'t that fun . Most the game, I found myself just playing it so I could get to another Sonic or Shadow stage. Finally, I think it had some of the most annoying music. I never want to hear another song or even the phrase "down in Pumpkin hill" or whatever the hell that song was.

As for it being a platform game - it was to a degree. The Sonic and Shadow stages had some "platforming" (Look, Ma\', I made a new word! ;) )  in it. To be honest though, how many games are actually a true platform game now\'a\'days? Not many. The Crash series can count as one , so can Kolona. Lugi\'s Mansion isn\'t one and I doubt Jax and Daxter is a true platform game.

Exactly. To me it was enduring pain playing with Tails + Knuckles just to get back to Sonic. Some music was nice, but again, SA1\'s music was much more catchy and memorable. I\'m glad to see that being a Sega-nut doesn\'t cloud your judgment on their games. :) SA2 was one of my most anticipated games, and I was so disappointed I almost returned it. It makes me wonder if Sonic Team, knowing the grim future of the DC, just through some stuff together to get it out the door.

I\'m a Sega nut, but I don\'t believe everything they do is "gold". I personally hate the Crazy Taxi series. I really don\'t understand why anyone enjoys it even.

I really wish Sonic Team would do a Sonic game that is just SONIC. None of this Knuckles or Tails crap. Just SONIC.  I did not pay Knuckles Adventure 2 nor Tails Adventure 2. I bought SONIC ADVENTURE 2.

"What you saw [of Luigi\'s Mansion] at E3, was just like seeing the courtyard outside Peach\'s Castle in Mario 64."

I think this poll belongs in September after SpaceWorld.

You guys expect too little and know less of me :)

I am a sucker for originals.

I thought that Sonic Adventure was better. Since it was the first game I got with my Japanese DC, My jaw was on the floor throughout all the game. Now that SA2 looks better, easily, but plays worse IMO. The focus has shifted too far away from Sonic and onto slower moving, more meticulous playing characters. Not to say that SA2 isn\'t a great game, which it definitely is, and the best of those out that are listed.

But SA just made me giddy and was just a great game. I liked how you could pick the character in SA to play their story, and while some of them were less than the stellar (Big the Cat and Amy) others were excellent (Sonic and Knuckles (another great game too)). This one forces you to use the slower moving characters. The textures truly are awesome though.
