Title: new castlevania.
Post by: lestat on August 07, 2001, 07:17:32 PM
http://www.classicgaming.com/castlevania/dungeon.htm

if you go to the link above,  under the \'whats new\' section,  you can find an interview with Koji Igarashi,  producer of  symphony of the night  and director of the castlevania chronicles...

it seems as if a new castlevania will be in the works soon...and the question is will it be 2d or 3d ?

personally i would love to see a klonoa style (2d with 3d backgrounds)..but who knows what they have in mind...
and while id love to see it released on the ps2,  if they go 3d with this one,  i think the xbox is the right console because of the higher quality textures which are well deserved for a game such as catlevania,  plus by the time it comes out,  which my guess will be in 2 years or more,  the ps2 will be old....

funny how a game such as castlevania will actually make me dishout money for an xbox...

I just want it straight up 2D like SOTN.....  I just dont want them to mess it up.

 what makes you think that? Since it\'s the hardest to master, because the emotion(al) engine is more complex (so they say) and will have better (maybe) graphics in 2 years time then the xbox..

AND ps2 has mass market appeal (thankyou psx) so you better edit your post and change two years to four or five years FOOL!
:fro:

Oh and btw good news about the castlevania, i agree it should be like the psone version with really kick ass effects, no cell shading tho, to fruity for castlevania.. :)

Well...I don\'t think they\'ll mess it up. An awesome 2-D version would be nice, though...;) This game rocks...

actually buddy,  as much as i would love the ps2 to reign supreme for years to come,  you have to admit that the ps2 suffers from blurry textures and jaggies...something the xbox and gamecube wont have a problem with...reality is that in a few years,  xbox games (should) look a hell of a lot better with bump map textures and special fx that the ps2 wasnt programmed to accomplish....yeah the ps2\'s market is the best,  but it doesnt justify the specs...in time we\'ll know for sure,  but im just stating my opinion based on the facts.

The interview leads towards more 2D , so I would not be surprised to see a 2D version of this. Actually, this is rather old news .

You mention "jaggies" and blurry textures being the problem with a 3D CastleVania. Well, your wrong. The problem with a 3D CastleVania is simple. Its 3D. Did you play the N64 for ones? Even with great graphics (which they lacked) it would of still been boring.  You cannot have the true CastleVania spirit in 3D.

When Konami made the 3D CastleVania for N64, they said they would no longer make any more 2D CastleVania\'s (I hated them for along time for that statement) and now it seems they went back on that choice. They canceled the DC version, released CastleVania: COTM, an excellent 2D game and this interview leads you to believe that a 2D version is a very strong chance.

If Konami releases a 2D CastleVania with the same great gameplay as SOTN and COTM then Konami will once again make it in one of my favorite developers.

Going 3d in this type of game after 2 pretty bad ones on N64 wouldn\'t be a good idea right now. But going Klonoa style (2d/3d) would kick major butt!

i couldnt agree more with LIC...i HATED the n64 versions..it was the worse castlevania games ever...it was slow paced,  boring,  and didnt feel like a castlevania game..so i have my fingers crossed that they stay 2d or maybe even klonoa style for the new one...

but hey man,  youve got to be optimistic about 3d which is the present and the future...and i think that with high quality textures, high polygons and running at a smooth 60 fps,  konami would be able to make castlevania succesfully in 3d...the n64 just sucked and those castlevania versions lacked in every category...

im sure konami wont be stupid this time around and with the release of their gba version,  i think they might be in the mood for another 2d installment to the series.....

lestat, you don\'t know what you\'re talking about. Xbox and GC are easy to develop for yes, that also means they have less room to improve. Xbox and GC will look pretty much the same throughout there lifetimes. The PS2 however will continue to get better, like PSone did. In two years time PS2 games will look as good, if not better, than Xbox and GC. Hell just look at GT3 now and tell me that Xbox games look that much better :bounce:

Personally I don\'t care which console Castlevania ends up on. I will get that console for CV. It\'s that simple. ;)

Heck, they should do one for each console. I can\'t get enough of CV.

Amen!

I want a 2D version of CastleVania for each system. Each one taking advantage of each console.

The PSOne was the easiest to develope for in the 32/64 bit gen.  Yet it did get better.  Now what makes you think that Xbox and GC will be maxed out right away or shortly after launch.  Like every other system, they will get better and better.  Project Gotham, Project Ego, Jet Grind Radio Future, DOA 3, Munch- First generation Xbox.  It will only get better.

Especially Xbox, with it\'s HD and tons of ram.

This issue is so old, PS2 will not grow as much as you think.

im glad you know it...although this issue should be discussed in console comparisons..i cant let go the fact that some people out there think that,  in time,  the ps2 will look better than what the xbox and gc will be pulling off in a few years...blurry textures and no anti-aliasing is not something that the ps2 can fix now..its too late and we have to swallow it...
no im not an xbox lover,  and i wish no good games would come out for it so that i wouldnt have to dishout money for it,  but in the long run,  when those good games do come around,  ill prolly have no choice but to surrender and buy one. :)

You know the problem with that logic? If no good games came out for the Xbox or Nintendo, then Sony would have a monoply on the industry. When they had a monoply, then the quality of games would go downhill (yes, it can get worse!). So, when you wish a console no success - you are in reality wishing that your hobby would just die away.

I say that because castlevania 64 was 3D and it sucked so bad, and was hard as s--t.

you make a good point there...but dont take my comment about \'no good games coming out on xbox\' too serious...i just say that because i need to save money right now...originally i wanted to have all 4 systems,  DC, PS2, Xbox and GC...but right now im happy with my dc and ps2 and wanna use my hard earned moeny on software,  not brand new hardware...
so far,  jet set radio future is on my must have list..but until a few more titles that catch my interest are announced for xbox,  then i will hold on to my flow..same goes for gc...if all they make is kiddie mario or pokemon sequels,  then ill save some flow there as well....but ofcourse,  then theres castlevania which will make me buy any system for...lol

The PC engine version is still the best one. :D  Any Castlevania lover should try to play it if they get the chance. I hope Konami doesn\'t attempt a 3D Castlevania any time soon.

my fav quotes from that hilarious article:

Quote
I honestly think Konami stopped making up excuses for new Castlevania games."

Dracula doesn’t actually die, he just goes on vacation. A few years later, he returns with a tropical vengeance! No, wait, better still -- he does die, but a loyal follower (without the necessary incense to resurrect him) takes his corpse to the Bahamas, slaps some sunglasses on his glazed-over dead guy eyes, and pretends he is still alive, using the Count as a scapegoat for island mischief!

I was drinking some sprite at the bold part and it went all over the place! Simple humour always gets me. :)

Here\'s something to make you laugh(Zelda:lttp related)
