"Nintendo on Target Audience
In a conference call this morning to investors, journalists, and retailers, Nintendo revealed the reasons for targetting the younger market with the development of their games.
Mr. Iwada defended Nintendo\'s decision to create "games to appeal to young people," citing that they represented the common interest of most gamers.
"Nintendo is really the only manufacturer to target this audience. Secondly, young players are important for another reason. We believe they are the purest indicators of games," said Iwada.
"Ten years, twelve, and fourteen year old (gamers) distinctly say, I dont like that if they find games too frightening or challenging," explained Iwada.
This is interesting to note because Nintendo does not rely on marketers when designing games. Instead, it seems that they design games with the broad market and young gamers in mind.
"(Our goal) is to make games that will be fun for all ages, no matter what their tastes. This has always been a goal for nintendo: something that will please everyone. (With Luigi\'s) Mansion, Wave Race and Pikmin, we believe we\'ll be coming with games that everyone in the family thinks will be fun. This is a central point of The Nintendo Difference. (byc)"[/b]

What pisses me off is this statement "Secondly, young players are important for another reason. We believe they are the purest indicators of games". That is so f*ckin ridiculous! It is a slap in the face to all gamers who are 14 years and older. Do they seriously think little kids who watch Saturday morning cartoons are the drive of the industry? Pokemon was extremely popular because it appeals to a wide audience of both adult and young gamers(especially in Japan). What was the biggest seller on the N64? Goldeneye! What the hell are these guys fockin smoking? With those kind of comments and the image they flaunt, it makes us older gamers look stupid because ppl think "gaming are just for kids". Nintendo is so f*ckin wrong!
Another thing, not only is this image changing the face of the industry, it is also hampering Miyamoto\'s artistic vision...
Come on now...
The next Mario game is Mario Sunshine and Zelda has gone way too soft.
I made a post a long time claiming Nintendo is not ready to compete, and I am so right. They are just hiding in a little corner just turning enough profit so they can get by. No ambition whatsoever.
-
Hmm....
-
Hasen\'t this always been a known and acknowledged fact?
-
Yes, by everyone except for you.

Once again, you have proven yourself to be a complete idiot. You make a blind accusation without any proof. Never once have I said Nintendo did not focus on the younger age group as their target audience. I know that, and simply don\'t care because their games are always awesome.
Tshirts, how many times have you tried to insult me then I turn around and make you look stupid? It\'s getting repiditive.
-
Well I don\'t care what anybody, or Nintendo says. If I like the game, and I think it\'s fun, I\'ll buy it. I do like Nintendo. And I have always had fun with there products. I believe that if you let other people decide for you, or if you are a fanboy, you are weak, and can\'t make decisions for yourself. And should be weeded out. (this goes for Tshirts and Jumpman)

Instead of putting up a descent argument, Tshirts makes a fool of himself again. Kudos.

I suggest you get your Hooked on Phonics refund because it obviously is not working for you.

Insulting my spelling only means you have no argument. Simply pathetic.

*insert some fanboy whining that he can\'t play game because he is insecure and it looks to "kiddie" *.
Give me a break. I can\'t believe how stupid this is, just because a game looks kiddie you guys won\'t play it. Get over yourself. I could care less what a game looks like, as long as it is play great - which Mario and Zelda always do.
-
Well there\'s a difference between Looking Cartoonish, and looking kiddie IMO
Zelda on the GC looks like a Cartoon same with Jak and Daxter and other games
on the other hand I thought things in Zelda OoT were very kiddie.
Brief example was those rock creatures where you had to play the Ocarania(sp?) and get the big rock guy to do a dance. I literally almost threw up at this point. Other parts of being a child elf also made me feel I was playing a game designed to make kids happy.
I honestly lost the desire nor did I get absorbed into Zelda and have since not been a Nintendo fan
Now please don\'t attack me and tell how wrong I am, I know what I experienced and regardless of the direction the game might have taken towards the end the fact remains Nintendo failed to grab my personal taste interests.
I liked games like Crash Bandicoot, mostly because the dialog and storyline were basic and the gameplay was the focus. On top of this I could identify with a cool looking character like Crash as well as the Crash world. Yet Crash had a dialog and storyline to appeal to a younger crowd. Simply because the storyline was brief I didn\'t have to stomach through lots of kiddie dialog which allowed me to enjoy the games experience better
So in a nut shell I don\'t think the new Zelda is "Kiddie Looking" just cartoony. What they do with the storyline will make or break that image. The animation and presentation I saw from Spaceworld movies seemed very impressive, even the graphics look pretty sweet. It just boils down to the Bait and Switch routine Nintendo played on everyone that has this issue all stirred up

Just to set the record straight, Nintendo is ROLLING in dough. You don\'t have at least 5 games on the top 20 best sellers every month for the past 4+ years and only make enough money to "get by".

The day Nintendo isn\'t making a ton of money is the day Disney quits having a market also , because people quit having sex and popping kids out.
