whoa, man i just heard that a new intel chip has recently hit 2 ghz, breaking records... will that be a pentium 4?
or pentium5?
-
Pentium 4
Its too early for the P5 to be released. I think we might hit upwards of 5ghz before the P5 is released.
-
Isn\'t that funny how long it took to hit 1 ghz and they doubled it in a year. Amazing. What is my kid going to see in 5 years. Ouch. He isn\'t even going to want to mess with the PS2 because it will be crap.
-
nice. well it still is a pretty big step in processing technology, 2 ghz is alot of processing power (but yet i know i will be laughing at 2 ghz when im 40.)

and yet ps2 is nowhere near 1 ghz processign speed, it still is coming out with the best looking games so far.

ya know im not getting one so i dont care!!! i just love to see intel beat AMD..!!!!! amd is baaaaaaaddddddd.;)

heh heh
AMD isn\'t bad, they still beat Intel when it comes to raw FPU calculations, Intel only beats AMD when the code has been heavily SSE.2 optimized.
The P4 ain\'t bad, it\'s just not as scalable as the Athlon, it runs hotter because it doesn\'t have an heat spreader like the Pentium has, but that also lowers cost, and helps when you cool the proc with an acceptible heatsink.
And the thing to keep in mind is that the current socket423 which Intel uses wil be scrapped in a short while in favour of socket478 and Intel won\'t support it any more, unlike AMD who will continue to use it\'s SocketA bus for some time.
(altough the ironic thing is, that AMD licensed the EV6 (socketA) bus from Alpha, then Intel bought Alpha, so AMD is using an Intel bus)
AMD is the way to go my friend.

gateway has them you can order now and get it the first week in sept.
what do u guys think is a good asking price for my old comp. cause i have no clue any sugestions?
-
I just watched a bit on screen savers about the new chip and they pulled up some stats over at anandtech. They did benchmarks and the 2ghz is still benchmarking at less than AMD\'s 1.4 ghz.
Though tthat was pretty interesting. Oh yeah, and much more expensive and RDram is so freaking expensive too.

What do you think will be the speed of Intel proccesors for next summer?

2.5 Ghz.

Yeah somewhere around there probably.

MHz doesn\'t mean jack sh** to chip power. But I\'ve said that 20 times already. There are computers faster than that, and they aren\'t 2 GHZ. It just makes it sound impressive. Never mind...
-
They\'re called Alpha\'s and Ultra Sparcs.
The Mhz only really matters when you compare similar processors, but when people are comparing completly different architectures (CISC vs RISC, and x86 vs PPC etc..) they have to look deeper and look how deep the pipeline is, how much FPU power it\'s got etc...
