i think that sense you are now "the happy man of money" you should not buy yourself a computer, but instead put your hard earned dollars to good use and buy me one instead.
thank you
yours truly,
Luke

id say uy the amd !! works fine here ! probebly cost less too ! :D
-
Pentium 4 is too expensive right now. Bump your memory up to 256 and make it DDR! Also go Win2k instead of ME b/c ME is microwaved DOS crap!
-
I say AMD, since they just countered the 2.0Ghz chip by lowering the price of the Athlons.
But I am also an AMD whore.
-
I\'m also gonna say AMD. Intel keeps pumping out their chips with little improvements. Notice how AMD hasn\'t even tried to match them because they feel they don\'t have to. You\'ll get more bang for your buck with the AMD.. and same some bucks in the process.

Well after looking at some comparisions i think an AMD
CPU in your next computer is a better choice,... you save
and the performance is about the same... ;)
-
i think pentium4 2 ghz because then you can be the first on the block to have a 2 ghz processor.
-
If you can afford it, go for the P4 2Ghz. You won\'t have to upgrade for a looong time (wait a min, this is the computer industry we\'re talking about here). If you want to be thrifty and want power, then the AMD will do you fine.
And if you are ambitious and not afraid to try new things, ditch the Gateway and make the computer yourself. You will learn A LOT of helpful things in the computer world & won\'t be on the phone as much trying to get in contact with tech support.
Bits and pieces I have probs with:
- What kind of power supply does Gateway budle with their towers? Is it an off the shelf no-name? This is one of the probs with getting a pre-setup system.
- If you can afford the fastest processors, I\'d go for at least a 19" monitor. Mitsubishi is a good company, but Samsung and Sony seem to be the best performers for the same dough. Look for a monitor that can display 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, .24dp or less.
- As stated before, forget WinME and go with Win2k if you can.
- More more more RAM. :)
- Screw the AOL. AOL sucks plain and simple. Invest in cable or DSL (if you can of course). If you must get dial-up go with Earthlink, a local company, or someone else that doesn\'t have customized browers.
- Getting a pre-made computer also means getting useless software that you ultimately pay for. Expect to find your HD littered with things you\'ll never click on. Also how fast is the ata HD? 33, 66, 100? I\'m guessing it runs at 7200 rpms...
- Nvidia GF3 graphics card? That\'s too fast. Go with an ATI 128 or Monster 3D 8mb. Or even try an integrated vid card that\'s already conveniently in your motherboard.
Hmmmm, where\'s the BS comment?

Right above that question.
A Monster 3D. lol. good one.

well the poll is 50\\50 so far im still leaning towards the pentium but i am gonna upgrade to the 19" monitor i agree the aol thing is garbage and i will not be using it as far as price goes the amd base price is cheaper but comes with a lot less standard features so i have to upgrade a lot and the prices end up being pretty close
-
GF3, 1.4 amd is equivelant to 2.0 p4, upgrade ram, and get a bigger monitor. Why NOT go for the amd?
I voted for the amd.
-
AMD all the way man. :)
-
well the poll is at 8:7 for the amd
after talking to sales rep from gateway i went with the pentium(sorry guys)
i figured its like coke or pepsi, chevy or ford
im a pentium guy
so here are the specs for my new comp to be arriving by sept. 6
2.0 ghz pentium 4
256 mb pc800 rdram
19" monitor(18" viewable)
64mb geforce 3 gpu
soundblaster live soundcard
20x/40x cdrom and 16x/10x/40x recordable/rewriteable
hewlett packard 5300 scanjet scanner
it comes equiped with windows ME but i can upgrade to XP for 15 dollars
so have got a pretty bada$$ comp on its way now all i need is cable modem or dsl or t1 line and i could rule the world
ALL HAIL EMPEROR KLOBBERSAURUS
