"Tekken 4 is a piece of ****," says Itagaki, "one of the worst things about Tekken 4 is the concept planning. It\'s really half-ass. Tekken 4 attempts 3D environments, like I did in DOA 2, but they failed miserably. They should\'ve stayed in a 2D world. To be quite honest, I don\'t think they have the technique to go to 3D from 2D." What about the graphics? "Graphics look very cheap," continues Itagaki, "the people who made the platform (Tekken) will be angry as to the end result of Tekken 4." And the gameplay? "The gameplay is very slow -- very incomplete feeling while playing. The game balance is also way off." He concludes his Tekken 4 talk by saying, "I really hope when they start to work on the home console version of Tekken 4, they will fix these problems and make a better game. With the game in its present state, right now I don\'t see them as my competition.
You can read this and more here. (http://www.gamespy.com/previews/august01/doa3/)
Everyone\'s entitled to an opinion, even developers, but to openly bash another game of the same genre? Maybe Namco outta show them how much more money they\'ve made, or how many characters TECMO has ripped off. Pathetic.

I think this is the worst case of company/game bashing i\'ve ever heard from another company.
But just wait, a xbox fanboy will be here telling you this is common practice in the industry.

Itagaki - Tekken 4 is a piece of sh!t. You have a problem with dat bit*h?
edit - blah, it didn\'t load the picture of him.
:)

-
He just needs to talk big to make his game sound better. Because his series are one of the shallowest fighters ever
-
We all know which game is probably going to end up selling the most, so it really doesn\'t matter.
I still am in a little bit of shock that he said that. It just sounds... fake.

Yep somebody had to say, and who better than the creator of DOA3. LOL.....this is some funny **** I\'m starting to like this guy, he\'s got balls and he\'s not afraid to use them....LMAO
We all know which game is probably going to end up selling the most, so it really doesn\'t matter.
Yep, so true.
-
LOL..
He looks pretty gay :)
Btw. Tekken 4 isnt that bad..
I havent played it.. So I wouldnt know..
But I saw a video of it on this months PSW. Looks very nice indeedly!

Also here is what Itagaki, says about Virtua Fighter 4 :
What about Virtua Fighter 4? "I have to be careful how I say this," explains Itagaki, "VF4 is a very well-made game. The biggest problem is that it\'s old. They only were partially able to catch up with what DOA 2 was doing." One area that DOA 2 and DOA 3 have over the competition is the size of the arenas; Itagaki was quick to point out VF4\'s shortcomings in this area. "Even though the fighting worlds are good looking, they\'re very tight and constricting. DOA 3 has multi-leveled terrain that is more realistic -- where players have to adapt to different situations." Itagaki\'s final thought on VF4, "From a developer\'s point of view, VF4 was a bit of a disappointment, from a gamer\'s point of view, it\'s just a fun game to play."
DOA3 (https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamespy.com%2Fpreviews%2Faugust01%2Fdoa3%2F21.jpg&hash=1cd4e0943d3dab2781206a4fa01b038e716fca1e)

I would be upset, but it is true that T4 was a bit rushed. Its getting killed by VF4 in Japan. And he did say that he hoped the console port would be much better.
But, to say that much trash talk about a respected fighter like that... I hope hes made quite a few adjustments to DOA\'s fighting engine, or else hes going to get a lot of backlash from this comment.
-
Made adjustments to the fighting engine in DOA? Well, just look at DOA (the original) and compare it to how DOA3 plays. Has it changed that much? What has changed the most? Better graphics do not make for a better game.
Itagaki talking about how cheap a game is... talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Oh well, I find it funny how his game is being considered a "killer-app" because the graphics look good. Puh-lease.

Eh, all I know is that the characters can move around a lot more freely now(Which is a pretty big improvement, IMO). The only adjustments that really need to be made(Er, IMO) are the damage that those counters take, and they need to make \'em harder to execute so that some players wont use \'em as much.
-
Tekken 4 was rushed. Even I can tell that.
note, DOA3 interests me in the least, as DOA2 was shyte

"The gameplay is very slow -- very incomplete feeling while playing. The game balance is also way off."
POINTS:
1)Yeah as if the DOA series was known about its game balance. The exact opposite.
2)Slow?DOA3 is super fast.Faster than normal. Also the fights are more unrealsitic in DOA3 giving more opprotunities to developers.
3)Many prefered VF games because they werent as fast as Tekken games and focused more on strategy.
4)VF3 surpassed graphically T3 but that didnt affect its success.
5)if T4 wasnt in 3D funs would be disapointed. They asked for 3D.There was even a poll in Tekkenzaibatsu.
-
The only character in DOA that makes the game somewhat unbalanced is Jann Lee. But even hes not that big of a problem.
-
That was pathetic,
usually you don\'t see professionals going this low,
especially Japanese companies. I wonder what his motivation was?
greed, fear, loathing?
-
He sure sounds very confident for a guy who is developing the most shallow fighter series out there.
-
Samwise, you have no idea what you are talking about!!!
Didn\'t you ever play Double Dragon V on Jaguar/Genny/ SNES?
worst. game. ever.

Ok, you got me there. But I\'ll say it\'s certainly at the bottom then.
Just to clarify something - I preferred DoA2 over Tekken 3, but that\'s just because I\'m not a big Tekken fan... I do, however, think that Tekken is much more \'advanced\' than DoA. At least to me it feels like you have much more control in Tekken than in DoA (which has what I like to call the \'one push, one kill\'-button - well, to each his own I guess).
-
The pot calling the kettle black,eh?
Itagaki: HA! Your new Tekken 4 is sh!t.
NamcoRep: Uhm, yeah. Your DOA series isn\'t exactly that great either, \'cept graphics.
Itagaki: \'Cept graphics? What else is there to a game?!? I have bouncing breasts in mine! Top that!
NamcoRep: We\'ve got a Devil in ours!
Yu Suzuki: Shut up. My game is going to kick both your game\'s asses.
Itagaki: Okay, well, yeah, true, point taken.
NamcoRep: Gotcha\'. Point noted..Sorry, Yu!
-
While I\'m not much of a Tekken fan that was a horribly arrogant thing to say.
-
Tekken 4 attempts 3D environments, like I did in DOA 2, but they failed miserably.
Someone needs to tell this idiot that he did not invent 3d, interactive backgrounds.
The game balance is also way off."
LOL. 2 names: Jan Lee and Ayane. From what I have heard from almost everyone at TekkenZaibatsu and #tekken, Tekken 4 is more balanced than ever before. The infamous tier system is almost useless now because everyone is equal. I wonder if this guy has even played Tekken 4...
With the game in its present state, right now I don\'t see them as my competition.
Buahahahaha! LOL. He\'s in for a big surprise. :)
VF4 is a very well-made game. The biggest problem is that it\'s old.
Like many have already said, he needs to look at his own series.
They only were partially able to catch up with what DOA 2 was doing.
Doesn\'t he realize that every game has it\'s own style. He can\'t judge how good a game is by how much DOA2-like it is. He makes it seem like everyone is trying as hard as they can to make their games like his.
I wish I could see this guys face when DOA3 flops compared to Tekken 4 and VF4.
Nu Gundam:I would be upset, but it is true that T4 was a bit rushed. Its getting killed by VF4 in Japan. And he did say that he hoped the console port would be much better.
The VF series has always kicked the Tekken series\' butt in Japan. But in America, Tekken reigns supreme.
-
lol @ clip. Good one Clip. VF does own. :) (IMO)
When I first read the article it also seemed fake, but um, I guess like in politics, developers have to criticize each other? I just think that it\'s funny of all the people out there, the creator of DOA is the one to diss Namco. You don\'t see Suzuki lowering himself to those standards. Even though he can, he created the freaking 3D fighting market, but he\'s too noble for that BS. Anyhow, I like all 3 series, but in gameplay DOA is in fact the shallowest, and the one who has \'borrowed\' the most from others. Tekken will trounce DOA in sales worldwide, so it doesn\'t matter.

Obviously, just look at ps2\'s user base, DOA3 will be comming out with the xbox launch so it\'s really un-fair to comapre both sales wise.
-

Fair enough, but I wasn\'t necessarily basing that statement on that fact. Tekken is by far more popular than DOA. Look @ the sales of the first DOA, DOA2, and compare it to any Tekken. And that\'s comparing a full user base on the Saturn/PSX/DC/etc.
Nothing against the X-box, it can have a larger base than the PS2, but Tekken is preferred.
/ dm /
-
Tekken is by far more popular than DOA
Oh I agree, Tekken much more popular than DOA series.
-
He is just mad that Tekken owns DOA..............for free.
-
I lost all respect for team ninja for bashing tekken!!!!! What a ****y punk this guy. Tekken 4 will destory doa3!!!!!!!!:thepimp:
-
Hey,Raslant I haven\'t seen you in a while,did you go back to school ?
Tecmo has done a stupid thing by calling Tekken 4 ****...I hate them now :D

I been gone a couple of days. I don\'t go back to school like in a month(in college). Well I\'m back now..........as for tecmo there some punks aren\'t they. Tekken always was better than the DOA series. What\'s up GAMES?:) :)
-
Tekken always was better than the DOA series. What\'s up GAMES
Yes the past tekken games were better than doa but is tekken 4 better than DOA3, only time will tell.
-
This guy is an idiot, he has lost all of my respect and needs to open up his eyes.
What\'s he to say that a game sucks, especially if the certain game is his rival.. He\'s not going to praise the thing..
-
VF4 is his rivial and he said it was well made, a fun game to play.
-
Well he makes good points about tekken 4. I mean it is kind of cheap and very disappointing for game that has come this far. But jeesh this guy must have not played doa2 with it\'s lack luster story and no debth characters.
Tekken is bad but so is doa. They are both fun cheap games to play.
-

Just because he doesn\'t want it to be a rival doesn\'t mean it won\'t be. Like I said before, he is in for a huge surprise when Tekken 4, the so-called non-rival, blows DOA3 out of the water sales wise. Maybe he forgot how big the PS2 userbase really was.
-

That\'s what i was saying before, about the two. PS2 has a big user base while DOA3 will be coming out when xbox launches.

Well, didn\'t I hear a ton of crap related to how Tekken 4 had really terrible control and honestly, the graphics are 5 steps back.
Tekken 4 is easily the most shallow out of all the next generation fighters. Lets not even go there.
I don\'t think that was him saying that stuff and If it was then I don\'t agree how he said it. However, lets not be a dumbass about these things. Tekken 4 needs a ton of work and I am not comparing it to any other fighter.

I don\'t know about that DOA3 is an Xbox launch title and it seems the xbox is going to very well in the USA for Christmas.
As big as the userbase is, most of it is in Japan and DVD\'s are still selling... :) Notice how most of the PS2 titles arn\'t even in the top 10... :) doh!

Well dear Docwiz, I was talking about the Tekken series vs. the DoA series - where Tekken IMO beats DoA control wise. I didn\'t exactly compare T4 and DoA3 directly, seeing as how I haven\'t tried neither of them and none of them have been released on PS2/Xbox yet. I still stand by my opinion, but you can think otherwise if you so wish. To each his own.

Yup, I just can\'t wait till all those X-box games flood Japan and they sell bucketloads.

By all means... Please. Explain how Tekken is the most shallow.
-
I am glad you are passing judement on this guy without playing either game (most of you).
I have played Tekken 4, and a 3D fighting game doesn\'t have to do much to be better than that, IMO. My bet is going to DOA3, although I never liked it either, at least it was pretty fun to play.
VF4 owns all. It will be REALLY interesting to see what VF4\'s sales will do in the mother country, compared to both, muhuhahahaha!
Eric Jacob
-
Tekken has never been a good game IMO. Their combos are ridiculous and the control is awkward. T4 is terrible if you ask me.
But i think what hurts this game the most is that it tries to be VF. It tries to be deep and meaningful and it falls on its face.
VF is king. It\'s simple.
On the other hand DOA is like chocolate or desert. It\'s fun, admittably shallow, but it doesn\'t try to be a deep complex fighter (a la VF).
If I want to fight, I go with VF everytime. If I want to have a few drinks, and have some fun, DOA can be a lot of fun.
-
i hate to say this guys...i have been playing the crap out of DOA2 and love it.
am i missing something?
and just because tekken ruled in the past is no insurance it will continue...if better fighters come out, word will get around quick.
-
Yes, Da NU has played T4... And while I wont go as far as far as saying "Tekken 4 is a piece of ****"( ), I will say this:
I can see why Itagaki San dissed it... There weren\'t any major improvements to the battle system, and the characters didn\'t feel like they were in a complete 3D enviroment. And it does have a rather incomplete feeling... Like it was rushed(And it was). Its a good game, dont get me wrong. I\'ll be playing it to death when it comes out for the PS2(More than DOA3, I\'m sure), but I\'m just saying that I think Itagaki\'s *****in\' is somewhat justified... S\'all.
The improvements I wanna see? 8-Way-Run movement just like in Soul Calibur. The characters have that slow movin\', walkin\' around in glue feeling like the fighters in DOA2 did when you tried to move \'em around(Thankfully, this problem has been solved in DOA3). And... The graphics. The graphics engine doesn\'t look that much improved from TTT. The animations have improved a bit, thats pretty noticable, but everything else... Neh. Re-do it for the PS2, Namco! :bounce:
Thats about it... Oh yeah! And Jin kicks ass! :D

Yeah, just like you dumb****s say nothing about Trip Hawkins or the BIG creator of the PSX or PS2 saying crap about the xbox.
I honestly think either PS2 fanboys like you are stupid or too blind to see through to the real world.
