Title: TGS will make or break Microsoft
Post by: Sempuukyaku on September 01, 2001, 12:25:27 AM
TGS is going to be such a critical show come October. Microsoft is going to have to have a big, impressive presence to wow over the mainstream media. They screwed up at e3 but can really make up for it at TGS, especially considering the fact that the Japanese market is one that Microsoft really needs to focus on. If they have a huge booth, with big announcements, and a solid third-party presence on top of what we saw at the xbox conference, Microsoft is going to be sailing smoothly in my opinion. My purchase of an xbox depends on this show. I\'m VERY close to buying one at launch but I need a little more proof that Microsoft is here and is here to stay, so I\'ll be waiting to see what they have to unveil at TGS for that.

Anyone agree? Disagree?

I agree with the fact that the show will make or break the Xbox, but I don\'t think Microsoft can do much to woo over the Japanese public. They had some pretty big announcements at the spring TGS, not to mention the fact that the place was covered with Xbox ads, yet most of the Japanese public could\'ve cared less. In order to impress them Microsoft will have to have something that competely and utterly wows the consumers.

I think M$ is going to do good at the TGS cause sega said in a interview about a month ago, they plan on showing panzer dragoon on xbox for the first time at the TGS.  Along with a lot of other games.  Plus capcom, namco, konami, and other 3rd parties are going to be showing games for xbox.  I think there going to have a big impact at the TGS show, but so will sony.  :thepimp: :thepimp:

That and FFIX exclusive (somehow) would pretty much do Japan into MS pocketbook :)

We will have to see, but I for one cannot wait for Panzer Dragoon!!

The first lucky guy who sees the pics (if they are Insider) BETTER post them on here, otherwise *makes finger across neck motion*

have a good day :)

That\'d probably work, but it wouldn\'t affect the U.S. We\'re still waiting for DragonQuest VII.

X-Box is already pretty much a guaranteed big seller in America.

MS just needs a big pusher in Japan to get some installed base.

TGS will not make or break the xbox in the u.s, canada or even europe. TGS will only help xbox in japan or hurt it that is all. Because everywhere else the xbox is pretty much sold. It\'s that crazy no-gaming japan is where they need to sell. I mean dragon quest sucks. And so was rr5 there big hit last year. And they retarted dance game that blue up down there. Those Japananese gamers are weird.

The TGS will have an impact on the Xbox, as most of the worlds hardcore gamers will be watching to see how Microsoft fares against Nintendo, and Sony.

Dragon Quest is awesome. IMHO the DQ series was more fun than the FF series, I like them both though. I have to admit I was a lil urked at Enix when they stopped translating them for the U.S., but that doesn\'t mean the games suck.
Also, have you ever played Dance Dance Revolution? The game does look lame, but once you get into it, its undeniably fun. If you haven\'t tried it, you seriously should.

There\'s a difference between mainstream Japan and mainstream USA\\Europe, QuDDus.  You may not appreciate those games you listed, but the Japanese do.  Microsoft has to understand that in order to appeal to another country, they need to succumb to their ways.  Japan is very ficcle and MS needs to adapt to that.  Not vice versa.  RPG\'s are what they love, MS wants to win the hearts of the Japanese with their gigantic VCR type machine, they need to offer lots and lots of cute\\DQ style RPG\'s.
