nVidia says xbox can do "shaders". Same effect in FF movie and Toy Story.
The Xbox is of extraordinary importance to Nvidia at a strategic level. First of all, the Xbox will be the first game console in the world that uses a technology called "shaders"--the first programmable processor that you can download a program that was written to create realistic looking art, artistically different from company to company. The ability to run shading programs in real life, in real time, such as the type of stuff you see in "Final Fantasy," such as the stuff you see in "Toy Story." It\'s really going to be the first time, you\'re going to see cinematic effects happen in real time at a mass-market level. So the importance of Xbox, number one, is it gave us a platform to deploy programmable hardware at a broad level.
We now have the programmable GPU on a game console, on a Macintosh console, on a workstation with Quadro, on a PC with GeForce 3, on the laptop with GeForce. The programmable hardware is now on every large volume, visually rich platform on earth. And that is extraordinarily important if we want to raise content development to the next level, and ultimately great content will continue to drive the ongoing success of Nvidia. Now the reason why we were selected...I think in the final analysis, everything had to do with the fact that we have great technology in this area. People recognize us as one of the innovators in this space. The other part of this is just execution. We started development of Xbox literally a year behind GameCube and we have caught up. It\'s an extraordinary achievement for our company and I think Microsoft recognized our ability to execute."

That sounds like some advance stuff there. What\'s up with that final fanstasy movie and toy story quatily crap again? Well I wonder what will be the first xbox game to use "shaders".

This is the type of **** that Sony hyped the EE with... It\'s vaporware. Xbox won\'t be able to do this untill 4-5 years (much like texture streaming)

nVidia maid similar claims when the GF.2 GTS came out, some guy at Pixar wasn\'t too happy about that and explained that it wasn\'t true, the work that is done in Toy Story and Final Fantasy is beyond anything that can be done in real time, it takes a heck of a long time to render a single frame in those movies, and they have HUGE rendering farms at their desposal, I doubt that all that work can be done with a  single chip it this time.

I\'m sick of reading nVidia BS, they blab, and blab about feature this, feature that, right... pigs fly, i\'m really the king of England, and that feature will be the feature to end all features. LOL

no, this is real.

It isn\'t a complete replica of the movies themselves, but the closest thing to them.

You guys didn\'t see that article on IGN a while back where GEForce3 or something rendered FF:TSW? It was pretty big news.
Square was there and stuff supporting it\'s power.

interesting read.

IMO,
I think a PS2 can do 99.99999% of the effects any video card on the market can do.  Does it mean it could be incorporated into a 60fps game? with 8-10 characters on screen at 12,000 polygons per model, and huge interactive environments? (not pre-rendered)  Plus good looking textures? I think not.  ;)

Even if nVidia did some type of FF demo, was that demo a real game? was it 60fps? etc... it was just another gimmick to showcase useless crap...  IMO

I hope they prove me wrong, cause it would really kick-Azz to have such graphics in game. ;)
