PS2 is my first and only DVD player... so far...
It looks better than VHS so I\'m happy with it although I\'ve heard the playback is far from good when comparing to stand alone players.

I just bought an aftermarket sony DVD player.. The PS2 was just not cutting it...
-
I do, ! ;)

I sure do even though i have another. The PS2 is in my room and has the best sound system so i use it all the time. It looks just as good as my other sony one.

how was it not cutting it, dvd is dvd to me, I know some have better quality than others, but its not worth a couple hundred more bucks to buy a new one

I\'ve heard so many posts about how the PS2 DVD sucks compared to standalones and yet I\'ve heard many posts on how the PS2 DVD is as good as almost any middle range DVD player.
Now having compared the PS2s DVD capabilities myself to other standalone players, I can say with confidence that the PS2 DVD is as capable (as long as you have Sony\'s DVD remote) as any player beneath the $250 range.
It played as well or better than the $159 RCA DVD player that sells well where I work.

I don\'t use it cause 6 months before buying my PS2 I bought a Marantz DVD player and it realy rocks. Sorry, but comparing my $300 PS2 with my $500 Marantz standalone DVD player image and sound quality sucks on the PS2. But once again the Marantz DVD player was $500. Besides, PS2 makes a lot of noise.

I used the cables it came with and the picture sucked on the TV, o it wasn\'t that great anyway. With new cables, it looks way better now...;) It is comparable only when you have the right hook-ups to it. I use it all of the time for playing DVDs, I can\'t stand the tracking cr** on VHS...

I don\'t. I had a DVD player before I got the PS2. One of my friends, however, does. He recently bought the new driver disc, and said it would play the movies it wouldn\'t before. I guess thats good for anyone who doesn\'t have a seperate DVD player.
