Decide what is the future for console going to be about 5 years from now.
a. Xbox vs. Ps2
b. Xbox vs. Gamecube
c. Ps2 vs. Gamecube
d. Someone new will enter the market and take over.
e. All three will still be in the market
Whats your opinion on this subject.
For me I think its going to be xbox vs. ps2 with all the 3rd party focusing on them. I don\'t think the markets big enough for 3 SUCCESSFUL only, well I could be wrong but it looks like one of them has to crash and burn. I think its going to be the battle between sony and M$, but thats just my opinion:):thepimp: :thepimp: :thepimp:

I\'ll say PS2 and X-box will be the last ones standing because at the moment they both have the kind of games that will lead them both to the top of the industry.X-box has already a strong line up in FPS and and Adventure while PS2 has a wide viriaty of games from Adventure, Fighting and Racing. Both systems have enough games for everybody, but at the moment I can\'t say to much about Gamecube except "How cute".

While you "can\'t say much" for the GC, Nintendo will still be hear in five years . The same as Disney is around ever year to release movies. As long as there is kids , then Nintendo can exist and make plenty of money.

good point.........GAMES, Xbox and PS2 are going after the huge titles from the 3rd parties which will lead them to the top. Then nintendo 1st party line-up is strong as well, butI don\'t think its strong enough to beat ps2.:thepimp: :thepimp:

You cannot deny X-Box has some great sounding and looking games announced, hopefully gamers see through hype and buy the damn thing (ie: DC). It would be nice to see PS2 and X-Box battle it out Geny v. SNES style, if you know what I mean :)

You know what I have a feeling this generation going to be something like that. I still say xbox is going to be a force in the market. I\'m going to preorder mine this week.:thepimp:

Like 16 months ago, I wrote a console war article detailing what *could happen* between the systems. I think my results listed the X-Box as being third in all territories with the PS2 coming in first in Japan and second in the US with the GCN dominating the US market for the first time in 8 years and coming in second to Sony only by a slight margin in Japan.
You know what I realized in all this time since then?
That predictions, analysis, and crystal balls don\'t mean sh|t in this industry. You wanna know what makes it go round? Money. You really wanna know who wins?
Sony. Microsoft. Nintendo.
Three companies who can\'t argue the point that this "console war" is a crock of sh|t built upon doing one thing: Not winning the gamers favor, but emptying our goddamn wallets. Who cares who "comes out on top?" What difference does it really make? Will you feel better waking up in the morning knowing that Sony made more money then Microsoft or Nintendo by selling the most systems? I know Sony making more money then I can dream of will really make me sleep easier that night. Give me a fuggin break.

There was nothing funny about that. I swear, I think a few of you have a mental complex about children (no, not "kiddies") being a viable market for a company. Children enjoy games also, for the record. You should remember that, you was once a "kiddie" .

btw - Ryu is right. None of the companies give a sh!t who wins. It\'s all about the benjamins. Don\'t think that Nintendo/Sony/M$ is fulfilled with bringing us great gaming, it\'s the money that fills their pocket that fulfills them. And I still don\'t see why people argue about which console is best, or which will win the war.. In my eyes, the DC reigns supreme, even in its coffin.

Unfortunantly look at Sega, they cared somewhat about us (mabey not but more than $ony, M$, and Nint - lets release one game and make 20 different clones - endo) and look where it got them. :( :( :(

Yup, I am afraid to get blasted by the higher ups in this forum, but I will say it anyway.
Sega cared about gamers. There, I said it. Deal with it.
Clip - you forget one thing. When we were kids, we had Sega to bring us more adult games. I didn\'t play Nintendo games when I was 10 because I thought they were quite sissy. I think most kids (except the good ole fashioned gay ones) still prefer the cool games with the \'tude that Sony and MS bring. Nintendo needs a new formula, IMO. old franchise + new system + shiny graphics /= good game. Nintendo seems to think thats all they have to do.
Innovation is dead in large amounts, Sega, the consolemaker, is gone.
I don\'t care what happens with America, but I want X-Box to sell at least 2nd most in Japan. That would shut up all those jerks who say american consoles always fail.

Innovation is dead in large amounts, Sega, the consolemaker, is gone.
Actually, we have lost our console guinnea pig. Sega always tried to test the waters first and in a lot of ways, they did a lot of things wrong. Based on what they did, other consoles grew and built upon Sega\'s model. Who is left to follow now? Sony? They are most likely to have the first next gen console out now. They make innovative Hardware. However, innovative does not always mean good. What about MS? The company that takes ideas and then adds to them? The original hack and add developers right? What\'s to add to if they test the waters first? It\'s quite simple, they won\'t. Finally there\'s Nintendo. King of delays, always the last on the new hardware chopping block. What they make will be innovative in some shape or form, but it won\'t by any means set the tone for the 256 bit generation.
Who cares anyways so long as the games are fun? I guess you can always be happy, AlteredBeast, knowing that no matter what you buy, you will always, theoretically, have a Sega enhanced system.

The console that seems to have the most Sega-tie-ins (of games that interest me, no SC5 crap) seems to be X-Box.

I think Nintendo (and all other companies) will stop after making their next-next-generation console. By the time there\'s a "GameHyperCube", video games will be so realistic that violence is a serious issue.
