Konami Xbox titles in doubt
Rumours have surfaced suggesting that the Japanese company has ceased all development on games heading to Microsoft’s console
Heavy talk is circulating among senior sources that Konami has suspended all work on its Xbox games. Although CVG\'s investigation this morning has revealed a slightly different story, both Konami and Microsoft have backed away from the issue. A spokesperson for Konami flatly denied the rumours, stating: “We are still releasing two Xbox games. [Konami’s Xbox titles are] still going ahead, still under development and still on the European release list.”
The two titles referred to, according to the company, are Air Force Delta Storm (Deadly Skies) and Silent Hill 2: Director’s Cut. Air Force Delta is still officially on schedule for US launch on November 8, with Silent Hill 2 to follow roughly six months later. The two Xbox titles compare with at least ten heading to PS2 in Europe this fiscal year, and it is no secret that the Japanese publisher and developer has a particularly strong relationship with Sony.
One of the most anticipated Konami titles is the Xbox version of Metal Gear Solid, but the future of the project has been cast in doubt, with the Konami spokesperson stating: “[Metal Gear Solid] has never been on our Xbox release schedules. We don’t know what’s happening with the title.” Metal Gear Solid 2 was announced as a PlayStation 2 exclusive at E3 this May. CVG contacted Microsoft for comment, but the company was keen to distance itself from the matter, stating that it was an issue for Konami and refused to make any official statement. Microsoft insiders have pointed to talk of total suspension being completely off the mark.
If these rumours are proved to be true to any extent, this will be a bitter blow for Microsoft, as Konami possesses some of the largest franchises in gaming and it would now appear the company has shifted its focus onto PS2. We’ll have more on this as it develops.
Its still a rumour..
But it might have something to do with Sony+Konamis secret contract.. (Rumoured several months ago!)
You know what they say.. No smoke without fire!

If M$ sells enough consoles, Konami will release all its games there... I think this is all economical instead of "lets get M$". IMO.
-
Is Konami smoking it up with Square now?
This would be a stupid move, especially considering how well the Xbox is being pre-sold at the moment. Anticipation is high, some due to Metal Gear Solid X. The game has a huge American following, it\'s bound to be a million seller which ever console it comes out for.
If Konami sells out, and alienates everyone but PS2 owners I will lose all respect for them (like it matters) .

Good news for PS2..
Bad for Xbox..
If its true :)
-
I wouldn\'t really call it bad news...
This won\'t affect sales of the xbox at all. People aren\'t buying the xbox now, so they could play MGSX some time next year.;)

Thats not what I heard ;)

Let me first say that I love the MG games and MGSX was my soul reason for getting an X-Box sometime in the next 2 years. If Konami scraps the project and doesn\'t release it whatsoever, then I will hold off on buying an X-Box for an even longer period of time. Probably until it reaches a nice and cheap $99 price tag. That\'s just me though, I\'m a Metal Gear whore. Who knows how everyone else thinks, but this is huge news imo if it is in fact true.

The game was basically going to be a port...a few minor changes. And you would have thrown down a little over 350$ just for that:surprised
-
Two games confirmed AFDS and Resident Evil...beyond that MGSX is a total mystery.....is this supposed to be news??
-
both good and bad news, Metal Gear X I believe vaporware. Konami has not shown anything of this title nor even hinting at some details, I even doubt it is done by H.Kojima. If it is indeed cancelled I will be dissapointed but not shocked. I personally am more interested in the MG pre-equal Kojima was hinting

not exactly. MGSX would have been the main reason to make the purchase, but by no means the ONLY reason. I consider all the other games to be healthy bonuses. Besides that, as I said above, I am an MGS whore. :)

I know what you mean, i\'m a fellow MGS whore too,
and i played MGS yesterday, but i noticed a lot of slowdown,
i havn\'t played the original MGS for psx in almost 9 months,....
But i did play the MGS2 demo, ... I don\'t remember the original having so much slowdown, .... :( i can\'t believe that i did not notice it when mgs was released...

Put yourself in Konami\'s shoes. What would be the point to develope a game for a system that will have a significantly smaller user base than the PS2? They could save money and time by not developing MGSX for the Xbox, and earn a lot more money if they just program another game on the PS2. I think it\'s a very smart financial move.

hmmm, let me see...
6 hour movie (MGS2 (X) or Hundred hour gameplay (Project Ego)
I have never been a fan of MG and never considered it to buy, but PE has always looked huge, IMO. I will be getting X-Box, in many respects, to play that game.

from what the article said, ther will be no x box mgsx, so like i predicted earlier, there most likely be no mgsx.
-
Oh crap this sucks for M$ if its true. I hope this is false cause konami is making some of the biggest xbox games.:thepimp: :thepimp:

metal gear solid 2 is not a 6 hour movie, onimusha was.
and sure project ego looks good, but how many casual gamers actually know about it? i think that this may be bad news for x box. if konami jumps ship because it thinks that ps2 will be the leader or somthing, well x box will lose many of its great titles.
and even though i said it before, i told ethugg that mgsx wil lnot go to x box. he never believed me. well i hope he hears this news so he can realize that i am right.
and if mgsx does not go to x box, well many people will be angry. i know many people who think that all the good titles that are coming out on ps2 are going to be on x box with better graphics.
they definately will not like to hear this.
but i wonder (if this is true) why konami is straying away from x box......
hmmm...........

Well this is a weak rumor and anyways who cares if it is true or not? All they have going for them iS MGS which is very overrated.
But this does not make sens if they have games already being made it makes no sense not to release them so this news makes no sense. I\'ll choke this one up with all the other pointless rumors.

You don\'t know this...as fast as the system is selling out, I wouldn\'t be suprised if Xbox is over 10 million by next winter. The same time the proposed MGS X would come out.
~Gee, that\'s alot of potential customers and chance to build an even stronger following. What do I do??:nerd:

Ah, but you don\'t know this, and Konami doesn\'t either. Again, put yourself in their shoes and then decide if it is a "stupid move." Why take the risk when programming on the PS2 is a sure thing?
And even more important, do you honestly think the Xbox will sell 10 million in 1 year?! The PS2 barely sold 10 million in a year, and it wasn\'t competing with 2 others systems, and it was selling great in Japan, and it had a name that everyone trusted and loved. I will be surprised if the Xbox has a userbase bigger than 5 million in a year from its launch.

Its good news for my Anti-Sony campaign. Its propaganda from the media against Xbox because Sony knows they can\'t hold their own so they have to resort to heavy handed tactics.
I don\'t blame the media for everything. Microsoft choose not to show their cards at E3 and thus got a lot of flack. I am not talking about this though, I am talking about a deeper problem that runs in the media.
The media is biased, thats a fact and thats life and they are working with Sony to issue misinformation about xbox because frankly they are scared of xbox.
Like I said on another board. I work with a guy that came from Sony and he says they are out to be a monopoly on everything electronic and they have a plan laid out to do just that.
I hear a lot of ragging on Microsoft on how they are such a monopoly and all that crap, but the real threat is sony. I am sure most of you will just have a blind eye for Sony since you are so loyal and all, but this is the truth.
Sony can pretty much do whatever they want, there are no anti-trust laws in Japan.
You gotta really love the hypocricy around here. :)

Funny thing is that you think you are right about a rumor, not only that, but the rumor has been denied by both Konami and Microsoft.
If a rumor came from anywhere, you would want to believe it. I could make up something negative about the xbox and you all would believe me or want to believe me because you don\'t want to see all that money you invested in a PS2 go to waste and your loyalty hurt.
I heard you were a nazi, geee it must be true because I want to believe its true! yeah....
CVG is wrong about a lot of things. In fact, the only time they are right is when they put photos of actual game shots.

Riiight..
And a little mouse told me he\'s gonna conquer the world.
LOL!
Sony could never monopolize the electronic buisness.. Its too damn big.. And with big gigants such as Panasonic, LG, Toshiba I find that hard to belive!

Rite there is noway sony could ever monopolize there is just way too many big players in the game. And way to much competition.
Look at the number of brands of TV\'S VCR\'S, DVD PLAYERS, CD-PLAYERS,..ECT...ECT THEE ARE TOO MANY BRANDS OF NAMES TO EVEN NAME. I agree with fastson
-
Even if it\'s 5 million...That\'s 5 million potential customers, way more than the game could ever sell.
Look, Resident Evil: Code Veronica was on DC first. Sold well over a million. They ported it over to PS2 in a little over a year and it\'s selling again. They made more profit off an already existing title. (With just a little more time and a little more money)
Konami knows the Xbox can handle it, they know it would sell to profit. I need to talk to them myself...;)
