Title: Europe\'s tribute
Post by: nO-One on September 13, 2001, 08:37:01 AM
Well after seeing how many of our US posters feel the outside world is against them, it seems right to show just some of the reaction is the Euro countries. This is inspired from a thread from another forum I visit.

European Union

This only shows a small fraction on the grief that is going on around here, and it\'s really moving to see that the people of Kosovo, Croatia and other countries that deal with horrible bombings every day, how they are really sad and feel for the people of America.

There aren\'t any pictures of what\'s going on here in Iceland but people are taking it badly, everybody\'s sad about this.
We all put our flags half way up.
The blood bank is prepaired to send all extra reserves of blood to help with the blood shortige that is going on.
We also have a special team that is trained to search for people when an avelanche falls, they are used to deal with bombings since they often travel to those countries that suffer many bomb attacks, these people are gathering their equipment and asking permission to enter US soil to help

Everybody knows that there is not a whole lot our small nation can do, but people feel the need to help.

This is just to show you guys that almost every country is there for you. Even tiny nations like Iceland, and nations plaqued by war.

nO-One: Thanks for your post.  That story about the Icelandic avalance team is really great.  I hope they are allowed to help because it seems that\'s the kind of help that\'s really needed now.

Videoholic:  I haven\'t looked at the NY Times website recently, but I just did.  It\'s really good.  I haven\'t cried until I read this story.  So sad...

Thanks man.

I think alot of you don\'t relise how the whole world is grief stricken about this, there was a similar thread in another board I visit, and there (like here) American posters were angry and they were lashing out at eveyone that wasn\'t American. The thread calmed things down alot.

The playing of our national anthem at the changing of the guard was very deep.  Thank you England.

oh my god, man when i heard about that, i wa overwhelmed by a ton of joy that everyone was supporting us, and even at a british big ceremony, they played the national anthem.

that was so great.

and no-one, i really didnt see many americans (such as me) lashing out against everyone in the world in these forums, but still it is a very cool thing to post, to show how everyone cares (well except those crazed palestinian kids who were celebrating)

And right fromt he beginning, when samwise, no-one, THE EYE, JP6666, and Fastson were all giving us up to the date info in the big thread about this. they were all caring just like us americans were. so it made me happy.[/u]

god, how i love this forum.

This is a good forum because there are only a few of us regulars, but we are from so many different countries and backgrounds.  It\'s pretty cool.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It\'s good to see that many of the forum regulars are as wise and nice as they are. :)

Just a little thought about countries and the like. I\'d like to think of myself as an Internation person - not as strictly a Dane, a European etc. I don\'t like those labels because in some cases they\'re helping hatred - it\'s so easy to catagorize someone as being something (anything) because they\'re American, European, Arab etc. I\'d much rather think of us all as just humans on this earth, without labels and boundaries - thus the tragedy in USA has affected me and many of my countrymen as much as everywhere else. I don\'t know anyone who\'s said "ha, they were asking for it" or something like that. Everyone has been very sad and deeply moved by these events and prayed for the lives of those involved. In such times I\'m glad to think of us all as humans, and not as someone vs. someone else.

Especially in these Internet times where we can talk to folks all the over the globe, thinking in terms of nationality is a bit off IMO - I can\'t \'feel\' if I\'m talking to a Swede, an American or someone in Australia - it\'s all the same. And thank God for that! If my little speech here has inspired others to think the same way (or perhaps you already do :)) then I\'ll go to bed happy. Thanks for listening.

Yeah, one thing is for sure, having friends all over the world is a great thing.

The fact that these countries have compassion for us in our time of need is a GREAT comfort.

Thank you all for sharing with us.

Finland, like all other European countries I believe, had our flags half way up today. There was also a three minute silence at 1 pm. There was another moment of silence thursday at work places all over the country. People have brought flowers and candles to the embassy of USA. So yes, we all feel for you and share your grief.

aww man, the pics are gone :(....but we still care :p

And it\'s true, it\'s pretty damn cool to be friends with a person who lives in another country, once I\'ve chatted with Potatocake a number of times and I belive I\'ve chatted with ##RaCeR## once or twice (I think, can you conform this Racer boy?), and the thought of talking to someone that lives on the other side of the globe is overwhelming to say the least.

England did stuff too.

Silences and the American national anthem played in London by request of the Queen.

It seems everyone has pulled together on this.

Even our democratic parties have with the conservatives saying they will stand by the prime minister (of the other party) in their decesision to stand by America.

Lot of upset people over what happened over there.

Lots of pics on our UK news channels.

it was soo cool, I saw a memorial in britan with a huge group of british choir boys singing the national anthem.

the church was packed.

and yes. i find that the regulars here are the mos tinteresting people i have ever met. (like stated earlier in one of my above posts)

and i only wish that the chat room would have more people (like regulars coming to it)

cuz i would love to chat with the regulars. (although i already have with many, but not for long... and it was awhile ago...)

thanks posters from europe, australia (bob\'s hardware, ooseven), and some from canada for your support. i think that together we have the power to take terrorism down.

edit, oh yes, we cant forget the spainards in here (adan, psxxx you know who you are.)
