Tonight as I sat and watched the news on one of my very few breaks in the past couple of days, I saw analysts speaking of coming retribution against terrorist-harboring nations.
One of them said a very interesting and disturbing thing.
He said (not quoting): "The American public, and the world, might not be able to handle the form of retribution meted out by the alliance forming to crush terrorism."
It shocked and saddened me.
The consensus is, that once we set out to make our lives safer, it might be too much for the public to bear. We may not understand what it takes to win this war.
For those of you who may be mistaken, innocents will die.
Everyone seems to think this will be a one-sided killing spree set upon the people of Afghanistan, or whatever country we need to deal with.
IT WILL NOT BE SO.
More will die on American soil, on British soil, on German soil, hell, even French soil. My point: this war will be very two-sided.
Even as we TALK about retribution, these maniacs want to kill more people.
Last night, on one of the first flights out of JFK Airport no less, they caught MORE of these people with knives, pilot uniforms, and pilot liscences. They can\'t wait to kill, while we sit and debate whether or not we should do this.
What will it take before you realize that WE MUST DO SOMETHING!! Will it take the death of a family member before you realize that we have to take life, in order to preserve our own?
We fight with words, while they kill indescriminately. They look on crying people missing brothers, wives, mommies, daddies, sisters, aunts, uncles, dear friends, even mere acquaintences, and laugh.
The only way we have to prove that it is in everyone\'s best interest to not let these pieces of sh i t stay in your country is to hit hard, and callously. Let them see that it will do them NO good to keep these people safe. Even Pakistan is pissing themselves because we are so pissed.
I am absolutely begging you to gather up your courage, and stand strong and tall against the coming horrors, inflicted by both sides, because, as the men who fought and died in Viet Nam can attest, a nation not behind its military will bring about its destruction. When they are flying airplanes into landmarks filled with THOUSANDS of our innocents, we are still worried about theirs.
Do not ever forget the people who have died.
Never, ever let this memory fade.
Make certain you are prepared for distributing justice, because it will be brutal. It MUST be brutal, for the sake of America.
Please, let me hear alternatives.

Yeah, I saw some dignitaries already prepping people with the thoughts that we will have losses. This will not be like desert storm where they all just waved white flags when the ground assault began. This will take a long time. This can\'t be done purely with air power. I\'m sure we will have a very long and sustained air campaign first though. they will have nothing but infantry by the time we use ground I would have to assume. It\'s just a lot safer to use our air power.
But there will be many losses. But that is what the military is about. These people should be prepared to die for the freedoms we are so proud to have.
I mean can you believe it\'s illegal to listen to pop music and fly a kite in afghanistan? Could you imagine telling your 6 year old that he can\'t fly a kite?

One thing to add... while Vietnam... nobody AT HOME were harmed !
In todays news they said: 700 Germans are missed too... and french and dutch and british and japanese and australian... and... and... and... and... and...
Like President Bush said: It´s a battle good vs. evil...
I would like to add: It´s also a battle human against human !
-
Don\'t fret. I have balls enough for everyone.
-
thats the problem wih humans ! their is not really a good and evil only a belief ! people there think they are doing good by giving back to america what they did to them ! ( and yes USA did kill alot of innocent people there ) they were not in controle only the dictator ! i am sorry .... terrorism piss my ass off i mean innocent people died ...... but the USA wants more innocent people to die .... wtf is wrong with this ?
-
jp, you are sadly mistaken!
America does not WANT innocents to die, but we understand that in order to fight these evil bastards some innocent people WILL die, that is a fact of war.
WTF!! Has it been so long, are todays youth that dumbed down that a whole damn generation has forgotten WTF war is?!?
In WW2 while we fought the NAZI\'s in Germany, we bombed the hell outta Berlin and other German cities. My guess is that there were many innocent casualties.
There is a reason why they say "War is Hell!".
The nations that have terrorist organizations are being given an ultimatum NOW! Let us, meaning Nato, UN, and America, go and get the BASTARDS that are holed up in your country, or by default you will become the terrorists ally\'s and we will plow through you to accomplish our objectives.
In that situation it will become those nations responsibilities of any innocents being killed.
What would you have us do? Oh no!! The bad guys ran into a populated area... I guess we\'ll just go home and forget the whole thing.
-
This is my fear...And its really really starting to scare me..
What if.. What if, and its a pretty probable what if, they have a nuclear weapon.. Pakistan is already listed as being a nuclear state, one that has nuclear weapons. What if one of these madman decide to let one off... Even if its over there..
What is the world to do.. What if that happens.. Do you have any idea what will happen.. It will be crazy.. And I really really think its possible if we start attacking over there..
God help us all if this happens. And even more fear if they do it over there..

True,
we don\'t have to look any farther than the fire bombing of Dresden in German in WW2, i think nobody will care about civilians, ...

Look. People are informed.
Right now THOUSANDS of people are fleeing Afganastan. Why? Because they KNOW that there are terrorists there and therefore they are at risk of harm.
Other nations, and the people that live their also know at this point the harm they face. Get out if you want security!!
If Russia went on TV and said they will attack the US if we don\'t stop showing reruns of The Simpsons, and America said "We won\'t stop showing Simpsons reruns!!!" Would you stick around?
Yes!! If you are a patriot and believe in The Simpsons!!
NO!! If you could care less about the Simpsons, and disagree with what the Simpsons stand for.
Point: Those who know they are at risk and choose to stay and face harm must by their very inaction believe in their governments decisions and policies. Those who realize terrorists are wrong and their protective governments are also wrong for harboring them will leave.

Cygnus - Couldn\'t have said it better.
-
guys, it is not as easy as saying all you people living in cities just go to the hills for a couple of months, or what not.... besides they want the borders to be closed all around Afghanistan so that no terrorist escape.
they don’t\' have food, they can\'t just live in the mountains indefinitely. There are countless woman with children that can\'t even buy enough food to feed them while living in a city... can you imagine living with 3 kids alone, during the winter in the country side???? right.
-
True Toxi, but very unfortunate.

I\'m just hoping that we have the guts to do what it takes. We had almost total support for our troops back in Desert Storm.
This is without a doubt, a trillion times worse.
I wouldn\'t be too afraid of nukes, even Afghanistan\'s allies are against them. They know they stand NO chance of coming out little more than a sheet of glass if they attack ANYONE with nukes, and no matter how fanatical they are, they aren\'t that dumb (I hope). But my point is, of course I don\'t want innocent people to die. Uh-uh, that would suck, and badly.
I just won\'t be discouraged if some get killed. I won\'t turn my back on the US when the casualties mount.
All I can see are two planes crashing into the WTC, one crashing into the Pentagon, and another commandeered by heroes, crashing in Pennsylvania. God bless them.
It is enough to stoke the fires of justice to see them brought to their knees, and regret the day they decided to skew the words of Allah to fit their purposes.

America has become too politically correct to sucessfully rally the youth of America to fight. The only thing teens get up in arms about anymore is if some kid calls another kid "fag".
This is a free country, I shouldn\'t have to tolerate such hatred against my choices! gimme a break. If you love this freedom so much, go out and help us keep it. Otherwise, everytime you act a little strange on an airplane (flirting with a flight attendant?) they may conceive that as nervousness, or you are terrorist.
who are you people and why did you let me rant?

That is EXACTLY how I feel. If we nuke them, without a doubt those crazy bastards would unleash more than one nuke on the U.S. Even if we don\'t launch a nuke, they still might since we will crush their country so badly, sorta like a last resort. And what makes it even freakier, is that some dude predicted the world to end because of nukes.
Why? WHY O WHY DID HUMANS INVENT NUKES?!?!?!?!?!
-
Alot of brave American soldiers will die in battle. This won\'t be another Desert Storm. It\'s going to be hard to win this war and like many say, this War may last years. Afghanastan is only the first Country we have to deal with. Then you have Iran, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. What I\'m afraid of is there will be a massive Holy War with all Middle Eastern nations involved. I pray to God there won\'t be another Terrorist attack in the United States. Do you think the United States Inteligence dropped the ball on this one? They spend billions of dollars in intelligence and they managed to highjack 4 planes in an hour! These Psyco suicide bombers are getting more sophisticated. It\'s scary!:(
-
I think most of America is underestimating our enemies. So many people think that we are just going to go out and destroy everything and then it will be all over, but I don\'t think it will be like that. The United States Intellegence dropped the ball, what makes you think that the people who prepare for war, the people who make bombs, and the people who invent new weapons didn\'t do the same?
There is a good chance that after we attack, our country will realize that we are not as powerful as we thought, and that other countries have gained way too much power. I hope that the lack of war in our country didn\'t make us too weak and unprepared.

America has become too politically correct to sucessfully rally the youth of America to fight. The only thing teens get up in arms about anymore is if some kid calls another kid "fag".
How true this is.
I saw last night interviews of teenagers about the coming retaliation, and all the kids could say was, "We shouldn\'t do war, war be bad."
Hmmm, no sh it. But, what do you propose?
One teen responds: "We should try to negotiate world peace."
Dear American youth,
GET OFF THE PEACE TRAIN!! ITS BEEN DERAILED!!
As I stated above, my grandfather LOST his youth, because he understood that we needed to defend our country with our lives. Has the youth of today been so brainwashed as to think that we can negotiate our way out of this?? What is on TV that I am missing? For all of the video game "murder simulators" we have been playing for the past 20 years, we sure have bred alot of pacifists.
Now first, let me say that it isn\'t wrong to want peace. I admire their naivite, and for lack of a better word, optimism. Second, I\'m not saying that you have to change your view on the world to fit my opinions.
But, it disheartens me to know that these dunderpates will be holding signs to protest the soldiers that do the dirty work for them, because they have been raised on a diet of mommy-and-daddy-spoon-fed-me-till-I-was-15. I\'m not bragging, but, by the time I was 15, I was forced to put aside my youth and take care of a completely crippled father. This was no easy task because the man was a total bastard to me and my brothers and sisters growing up.
You know what though?
I SUCKED IT UP, AND DID THE PROPER THING TO DO.
Some kids today suffer no hardships, thereby never opening their eyes until its too late.
So, if you are still living the fantasy that this can be talked away, that all will be ok, please, I\'m begging you, wake up. The next one on the plane that crashes might be your mom, dad, or even, you.
PS- Just heard that a guy I went to school with lost his sister in the Tower. Don\'t ever forget this, please.
PPS- This message doesn\'t apply to all teenagers, don\'t get upset. Chances are, I ain\'t talking about YOU.

so jergensoft, you joined the army?
and this war will not be an easy and fun one like desert storm. we wont be able to watch our cruise missles crash into asprin factories. now, we will have to go in, and fight, for years. it wont be a quick one, the terrorists fight gurella warfare, not like desert storm type.
it wont be pretty, and if your 15 or older, you may be in the war.
in years to come

I understand what you\'re trying to say, but perhaps that isn\'t the best way of putting it... Desert Storm wasn\'t exactly easy nor fun. :)
-
well it was pretty easy, but war isnt fun. this upcoming battle will make desert storm look like a walk in the park.
we have a new and different enemy. its much harder to fight gurrella warfare.

True. Just ask Russia.

Not yet, man, not yet.
If and when I do join, I\'ll probably join the marines though. Hopefully I\'ll get to do more that way. Y\'know, first ones in, last ones out! :D
Also, I didn\'t mean to insult anyone by what I posted about today\'s youth. I say these things to get you guys to think.
BTW-Pakistan has just ordered the Afghanistan regime to hand over Bin Ladan, who, it should be noted, denied having ANYTHING to do with the attacks.
He must be shi tt ing in his turban.

hahahhahahha yeah he knows that we know he did it. he\'s screwed. and afganistan wont hand him over, afganistan\'s government is a taliban!
oh yeah osama claims this is a holy war. great. may good triumph over evil.
and the marines are a good area of the military to join. they do almost anything.
so it suits almost anyone.

A freaky thought struck me today as I sat with my wife in a packed, and extremely patriotic & heart-wrenched congregation at church...
While we\'ve watched year after year (literally, generation after generation) in the middle-east fight "holy wars"...what would we do if a terrorist\'s next similar attack was on an American church??? Regardless of religion; I mean, cripe, Osama says he believes in the same God we do?!?!...but how would we react to such an event? I am not looking for an answer...we are still numb from 5 days ago; but this struck me nonetheless...
As far as the original question of this thread: (said tongue-in-cheek, but really sarcastically mad-as-hell)...I thought the media and our politicians have already resigned themselves to the apparently undesputable fact that all children are completely numb to violence now through the efforts of videogames and the like???... Again, this is just me being sarcastic.
But in all truth...I believe in this nation. I believe those that exist in our service sectors and that those that will never forget September 11, 2001...all of us...will be willing to do that which is necessary to remove the fundamentalists of terrorism.

True. Just ask Russia.
Hell, you don\'t have to ask Russia ****. Remember Viet-Nam?
Anyway, as efficient as we would like to think Russia was back in the day, the simple truth was that they just weren\'t. By the time Afghanistan was done with Russia, Russia was done with Russia.
The media and the gov. wanted, or didn\'t know any better about the "Great Russian Bear", so all we saw was big, bad USSR get smacked down by the lil\' guy.
This will be completely, and totally different than Viet-Nam, or the Russian invasion. This time we have complete and total backing, and the leadership to use these weapons.
Uh-uh, no Viet-Nam here, folks.
Just good ol\' fashioned sweep-and-clear (in simplified terms).
-
When it\'s all over, I just hope some proud American brings back bin Laden\'s head as a souvenir.
As for the original question, we have the balls and if the media doesn\'t think so, it can eat them.
As much as I\'ve made fun of him in the past, I\'m glad as hell that Bush is our president. You can tell he\'s just itching to kill somebody.

I really like how Bush and his top officials like Rumsfield and Powell, have come out and said that this is going to be a LONG and bloody war. They\'re doing their best to try to prepare the american public for a long battle, and that\'s good. If our leaders are prepared for a long and tough battle where many lives will be lost, than so will the American people.
