Title: Need some PS2 hep!!!

I bought a ps2 used and was wondering if there was a way to find out if I have a japenese or us version. I dont have any ps2 games yet, but it wont play any of my psx games. Im tryin to figure out if I was screwed or not. No matter what game I put in, I get "read error" I really hope im not screwed...but before I go off on the seller, Id like to find out any possible reason why I get that error.

dude I hate to be the one to tell you but I think you got screwed.

Read Error is a fault with the systems ability to read info off the disks.

DO you have the instruction manual, There is a section where they talk about a diagnostic mode which may help

the other thing to do is to clean the laser head.

After that you need to send it in for repairs and it costs about $125.00 to do so

1. Sorry for the Q, but those PSX Games are Originals... right ?
If NO, they´ll never play without a ******* or something.
If YES, are they US or JAP ?
2. Rent an US PS2 game and test it !!! Or you can rent an US DVD (which has a diff. Regionalcode then the Jap.)
Afaik: there shouldn´t be a language setting for Japanese in the US Console... look if there is one...
If all that fails... try to get the guy who sold this crap to you and stick it up his A$$... :D

Yup, they are originals..

Language default english, so I am assuming it is a US-spec ps2...

I cant stick it up his A$$ unless I goto VA and Im in IL..I will however file mail fraud charges if he isnt willing to make reperations(sp).

Yeah Luckee, you need to get your money back from him.  He ripped you off by selling you a faulty PS2.  If you can\'t get your money back, go here (http://194.47.16.181/forums/showthread.php?threadid=11121) for ideas on how to get your PS2 replaced for free. ;)
