Title: Shenmue confirmed for ps2!?!?! From da man Yu Suzuki!?!!?!?
Post by: rastalant on September 16, 2001, 06:19:33 PM
In NextGen Magazine, in the recent issue with Tina on the cover, there is a feature on "The 25 most powerful and ifluential people in the game business." Under number 21, there is Yu Suzuki. Under "What\'s next," it says, "The story is not complete - expect the Shenmue series to continue on PlayStation 2, but on a grander scale."                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  If this is true which it sounds like it is.  This is breaking news it makes me glad I brought a ps2.  I hope this is true  maybe sega will shed more light on it at the TGS show.  Thoughts guys?

:) :) :) :)

If it is not a direct quote from Suzuki-san, then treat it as just that, a rumor.

He is working heavily on PS2, though, but I pray he realizes the benefits that the harddrive and power of the X-Box could do for Shenmue.

please X-Box, please!

pstwo it just gets better with vf4, soul cailbur 2,   FFX, tekken 4, and shenmue series coming to the ps2.  I don\'t think sony got too much to worry about.

Yep, and I can\'t wait for Mario to come to PS2, too.

you guys can assume all you want, but don\'t hold your breath until Suzuki states it himself. Rumors turn out false all the time, hardly ever do they turn out correct.

So let\'s all not assume anything.

I don\'t care what console Shenmue goes to; but that was NOT a quote from Suzuki. It was from the NextGen editor writing that article.

Well something like that could be true, I don\'t know.

I do know that I am really disliking Next Generation Magazine.  I have subscribed to it for years now, but they laid off most of their good staffers and are practically Sony fanboys now.

The magazine has gone down hill in the last year to be a total fanboy magazine.   They are sometimes so biased towards Sony that they look like people on this forum and on gaming age forums such as Gigadent and Amon.

The magazine should be renamed Sony\'s Next Generation.

I hope its true..

I\'ve heard rumors that Shenmue 1, 2 and 3 are going to be on PSTuu :) :D :bounce: :bounce:

Let\'s wait for TGS!

Personally I hope it goes to the Xbox, due to the HD being built in for all the Xbox owners. That is just my own opinion though and that quote isn\'t from Yu himself , so don\'t believe a thing until it is confirmed by him.

I am kinda at the point where I want pretty much every game to make use of the Xbox\'s HDD. That is why I hope the Xbox is a success so HDDs will be a standard next generation. HDDs or something equivalent.

I hope it happens.  I\'d like to see more Sega support on the PS2, and seeing a Shenmue game on the console would do it for me.

but it doesn\'t feel like a sequel. After playing through Shenmue so many times, I\'m used to Ryo, Nozomi, etc. voices. To play through the rest of the series w/o those voices wouldn\'t seem the same.

I\'m not sure if the PS2 would allow Shenmue to evolve beyond the Dreamcast incarnations in any aspect other than graphic. The game basically achieves most of what it initially set out to do on the DC. Without a substantially different technology (i.e HDD), the game will never likely reach levels of interactivity markedly higher than those of the now current incarnations.

So it\'s no big deal if they bring parts 1 & 2 to the PS2, but the series won\'t really evolve if it makes the console its home base.

Gohan - Nozomi isn\'t even in Shenmue II, d\'oh :(

kangu - thats about the best argument I have heard in a long time, take a nice long bow. The series doesn\'t have to change beyond the scope of what the DC games set out to be, PS2 can handle it.

but if we really want the series to evolve further, al la use of hard drive or modem, then X-Box would be the way to go. I have no bones if the game just stayed the same, but I think of the possibilites of using the hdd, it brings a smile to my face.

Exactly.

And the vibrant, breathing world of Shenmue lends itself perfectly to the use of the HDD. Just the possibilities with learning AI are endless. Something like the mascots in Black and White but on a much grander scale, invloving the hundreds of NPC\'s in a town or city.

That would be unparalleled.
