Today in school, one of my friends thought he would be funny and grabbed my TI-83 plus calculator and did something to it. He gave it back, so I just figured that he was playing a game on it or something. Lo and behold, I try to turn it on during a test, and it won\'t turn on. Meanwhile my "friend" sat over at his desk and was smirking at me. Does anyone know how I can get it out of this mode? And also, what can I do equally nasty to my friend\'s calculator to get revenge?

open the back up, take out the batteries, and put them back in. try and turn it on.
if that dosentwork, take out the batteries again, and get a very small screwdriver and undo the backup battery. youll see it, its right above where the batteries usually are. unscrew it, take it out, then put it back in. put the rest of the batts back in and itll work.
i did that to my friends calc once on accident, i had to fix it.

If your school test are anything like mine if you dont have your TI-83 you fail kinda deal then you should kick the **** out of him, or give him a nice peter tap

Yeah, I tried both battery things and it still won\'t turn on. He unlocked it again somehow but then did it again. Oh, and I did fail that test because of him. Don\'t worry about the "peter tap", I got him fairly well with a well placed wooden block in shop class.

I know almost everything about the TI-83. I made tons of games for it.
but I don\'t know how to lock/unlock it, no one I knew ever did it.

Erase all of his programs...formulas, games,etc. :D

ok fulltilt, you must have not taken out the backup battery. if you took all the batteries out, including the back up one, it WILL turn on. its simple as that. it must.
right above the main battery area you will se a backup batery area. unscrew it with a small screwdriver, and take it out. it will work. it must.

Well, the mystery has finally been solved. As I was fooling around with the calculator, the display started to slowly come back. Then it hit me: all he did was change the contrast on the calculator so high that I couldn\'t see anything. So, I just put the contrast back to normal by pressing 2nd and up and down.
I fell like an idiot, but at least I got him back.
